Hi, I am new to the site and had a few questions.

My family will be taking our second Disney vacation during thanksgiving week. We were there during the same time last year and the Sun wheel was down and the big lake(forgot the name)in DCA was drained. Does anyone know if the will be closed again this year or will they be up and running?

Also, we will be there from Nov21-30. We were going to stay at one of the off-site hotels but now we are thinking of spending a few days at one of the resort hotels. Here are my questions.

1. Are the resort hotels worth the money?
2. Which resort hotel should we stay at?
3. Where can I find the best price?

I hope this makes sense I had to rush this out before I leave for work.

Thanks, for any and all help:)

The name "Sunwheel" is no more, but the same ride now exists as Mickey's FunWheel. I will admit, I loved the big sunshine on the old wheel, but especially at night, Mickey's wheel is just spectacularly beautiful. It's been open for awhile, so I don't think it should be down for your trip.

The lake is currently still dry, though it was supposed to be filled this month. So...you should probably just expect it to be dry, and if it's filled then that's a lovely surprise. :)

Going Thanksgiving week is likely going to be expensive and filling up...start looking quickly!

Somehow I doubt that week will be part of it, but Expedia has been running this "$100 a night" deal at Paradise Pier Hotel...of course it ends up about $30 more with taxes, resort fee, and taxes on that fee per night, but still, good price. There's also a Fall special that someone mentioned on disneyland.com, too. Again, maybe not that week, but it's worth a try.

I'll let others really discuss the yeahs and nays of on/off...I used to be an offsite-only person and that has changed over time, depending on the cost, and I can see good and bad in it all. In other words, I'm not of much help on that. :goodvibes

Thanks for the quick reply. I am glad to hear the Funwheel is up an running. I hope that the lake will be filled in when we are there.

I have been looking online and there are still some good deals out there but, I have to hurry and book something before it's too late. Last year we stayed at Stovals inn. It's not the nicest place but it was okay since we just needed some place to sleep. We were thnking of staying there again but since we want to stay at one of the Disney hotles for a few days we were thinking about staying some place cheaper to save some $$. I actually got a quote of $730 w/o taxes for PPH for Nov26-30. Not to sure if this is a good rate or not. I was thinking of staying at Quality Inn from Nov21-26 because it's so cheap. Does anyone have any advise on Quality inn or if there are any other cheap hotles that are within walking distace to the park?

Thanks again for any help;)
