I've been reading threads for days and still have a few questions that I'm hoping those who have stayed at SSR can answer:

1 - We are staying in a studio. In the past we have had a 1 bedroom offsite at a Marriott, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to stay at a Disney resort, even in a smaller space! I'm just wondering if staying on the first floor with a patio would seem more spacious than a balcony. Are the patios the same size as the balconies? Would the kids be able to walk out the patio and play on the lawn or get to the pool depending on the location?

2 - If we request and get a room in the Grandstand section can anyone give an estimate of how long a walk it would be to DTD Marketplace? I know we could request on that side of the resort, but the pools are a big draw for us.

3 -Our kids are 11 and 7 and sharing the pullout couch may be a stretch. If we brought our inflatable twin mattress would if fit anywhere in the room with the couch pulled out?

4 - Do the studio rooms have DVD players?

Thanks for any help! Beth

1. Most of the patios are surrounded by landscaping/bushes, so it's unlikely the kids could walk out to the grass or pool. Somehow, we've always been on the 1st floor, so I can only guess that the balconies are the same size as the patios, but there should be enough room to sit and relax.

2. From the Grandstand, figure on 15-20 minutes walk to DTD. You can also walk behind the Carriage House and catch the boat.

3. Believe me, I understand! We have had a twin size aerobed in a SSR studio with the pull out out. You'll need to move the table over and the chairs, but it works without too much trouble :goodvibes

4. I believe they all do, but I know the Grandstand had them :thumbsup2

Have a great trip! SSR is our home resort and we love it :goodvibes

DVD players are standard in all of the DVC resorts.

Another SSR question. Where might I locate a map of the entire property? I'd like to make a short list :teacher: of building requests before we arrive on Jan 1.
Thanks!:upsidedow

I thought all the balconies/patios at SSR were enclosed so you can't just walk out the patio. At other resorts the first floor patios are either surrounded by shrubbery or a railing (OKW).

An air mattress with the sleeper sofa pulled out is going to be tight. He might be able to put it by the bathroom and kitchenette area. I don't think you will find room at the end of the sleeper sofa.

Some of the balconies don't have much greenery, so you can walk between the shrubs out to the grassy areas. If you want to stay on the first floor in the buildings on either side of the pool, the doors to the first floor rooms open onto the pool, but the patios open to the grassy areas on the other side. The balconies upstairs are the same size, maybe a tiny bit bigger. There isn't really any advantage to the first floor, except to avoid the elevator. We had a first floor room once where the door was under the area right near the elevator. I thought I was going to hate it, but the view was great, since it opened toward the golf course, and it was convenient to the pool and sidewalk over to eat.:worship: The next year, I had the same room on the third floor!

Only 12 weeks 'til we visit our HOME resort.. thanks for the questions..!!!

I seem to recall that the studio did not have a DVD player. We got a DVD from the store and found this when we returned to the room. They might have changed this since I was there.

I love SSR and even though it's not my home resort, have stayed there the last three times I went. The great gym and spa area that was used often is what drew me in. It is also convenient to DTD though which is a great draw.
