A few questions about Dinner Reservations?

I am surprising my husband with a weekend trip to Disneyland for his birthday. We will be there MLK weekend, arriving Saturday, Jan 16 at 6:00 at SNA. I realize that there is a big conference that weekend, so wanted to make dinner reservations before we leave. What time should I make dinner reservations? Since we are coming from the central time zone, we will probably be hungry, but I do want to check into HoJos first. We will not have a car, so thinking shuttle to HoJos and walk to dinner. Do you think 8:30 would give us enough time?

I was thinking about making a couple of dinner reservations and then when I tell him the surprise a few days before we leave he could pick one. I would then cancel the others a couple of nights in advance. Do you think that is okay or will I be causing other people to be turned away?

We do not have any children. I would like a restaurant where he can have a couple of drinks and we could both eat for under $75 total (and less is better). He likes American and Mexican, but we will probably eat at the Mexican counter service place the next day when we are in Disneyland. Any suggestions of good restaurants?

I took DH to the ESPN Zone in DTD for his bday. You can check prices and menu options at allears.net. Also you can make PS ressies online 2 days ahead through their website if you join their MVP club (its free).

I think that is fine. We do that pretty often. We make our PS's for what we think we will want and be hungry for at that time about a month before our trip. When we get there, things change: We're not hungry at that time, we want to sleep in, whatever. I keep Disney Dining in my cell phone and I call them to either change or cancel as soon as we decide we want to change. I've been told by a Disney Dining CM to call to cancel/change at least 45 minutes before your scheduled PS.

Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Making a lot of reservations and then letting him pick sounds like a great idea! You're so thoughtful!

Definitely check with the CM that you're making the reservations with though, because some places like the Blue Bayou, ask that you cancel two days in advance. At least, that's what they told me yesterday when I called to make my reservations. :]
