A fearless trip report- May 12-18th 2011

That sounds like a bit of an inefficient system to work the boats to DTD. That would have been very frustrating to be one of the poor people stuck waiting.:headache:

That must have taken quite a bit of restraint to keep you from ditching your DH and DS to head over to Star Tours. You must be a better person than I. :rolleyes1 :lmao::rotfl2:

Looks like a fun day at DTD. Not my favorite place on propterty, to be quite honest, but I do enjoy a stroll through the Lego store.:thumbsup2

I'm glad Everett went right to sleep for you. DTD with a sleeping baby is the best.

I've never been to the wrong WPE. It's good to know it's there, especially if it's less crowded than the one in the Marketplace.

Yay! For your peaceful meal! We are planning on trying WPU on our upcoming trip.. glad to know there is a secret less crowded one!

Episode 29- the update in which Everett is not satisfied with the playground

With our afternoon of leisurely shopping and lunch accomplished, we headed back onto the DTD ferry.

We had an equally lovely trip back, and once safely docked at POR, we thought about what we were going to do. We had a little time to kill before our friend Brian and his wife Krista joined us for dinner, so we mulled over our options. We could have taken DS back to the pool, since his morning pool adventure was cut short, but the idea of tromping back to the hotel room, dealing with sunscreen, bathing suits and swim diapers, was just too much. We decided to go with plan B, which was stopping by the pool bar, and then taking DS to the playground. Because, we all know, nothing says stellar parenting like hanging around the playground with an adult beverage in your hand. :rotfl2:

This plan seemed to work very well at first, Everett loves playgrounds (we practically live at our neighborhood playground), and he was enjoying running in circles like a wild child, burning off all that saved up energy. He was satisfied for a while, that is, until he noticed that the pool was not far from the playground. Suddenly the playground had lost all allure, and the only thing that Everett wanted to do was run at top speed toward the pool.

After a few instances of chasing after him and redirecting him in the direction of the playground, we decided to abort the plan. It is just too hard to chase after DS at top speed and drink your beer at the same time. :rotfl:

We decided instead to take Everett to the lobby, where he could run around inside the River Roost (which was empty at this hour). This served two purposes, we didn’t have to worry about Everett drowning himself, and we could get a second fortifying beverage, if the first one didn’t do the trick. ;)

Soon after getting comfortable in the bar, Brian and Krista showed up. Our plans were to just have dinner in the food court, and spend some time together. This was going to be the last free day Brian and Krista had during our vacation, so this was our last chance to hang out before we had to head back to Virginia. (this was food court meal #3 for those of you keeping count at home)

We managed to once again snag “our” table at the food court, and we had a really nice meal. I’m pretty sure I ate the same thing again, but it was good, and I guess that is all that mattered. We mostly talked about taking babies to Disney, since they are expecting their first child (incidentally their due date is Everett’s birthday!), and all the fun we were going to have in the future with our tribe of little boys. I don’t think WDW is going to know what hit it when the three of us couples (me and DH, Bryan and Amy and Brian and Krista) descend upon the parks with our three rambunctious little boys. Its going to one BIG adventure! :cloud9:

We called it an early night, because Krista and Brian had to drive back home, and as it turns out, a “rest” day is surprisingly tiring! We also wanted to make it an early night so we could be sure to be up early and make it to rope drop for our last day of park touring.

We got back to the room, and Everett went into his crib with no fuss. We turned on Phineas and Ferb, and eventually Everett laid down in the crib, and went to sleep all on his own. It truly was a Disney miracle. What was even more miraculous, was that we got a complete night’s sleep, straight through to 6:30 am! Dreams really do come true!

Great updates! That's too bad that all those people at POR got left behind. We have gone to DTD quite a few times on that boat and never have had that happen before.

It's nice that Everett took a nice long nap, so you could enjoy eating lunch and shopping! I really love the new Lego sculptures they have outside - they must have taken forever to build. I love the shirt you are wearing in the picture with Aurora pirate:. Did you get it on Disney property?

It might have been because it was the middle of the day, or maybe the boat captain wasn't on his game that afternoon-who knows! :confused3

I didn't get the shirt on property, but it must have come from property, since I got it at the character connection outlet in St. Augustine.

I really like the new Dooney designs as well. I saw them out on one of my last days in Disney and I was so tempted!

Those Disney Dooney purses are so tempting! It is really not fair they have so many designs, they are just making want to buy more!

Sounds like y'all had a very nice, relaxing time in DTD. That's great that Everett took such a good nap for y'all to have some "down time". That Cars Duplo set is really cute. That made me think that I probably need to get Reid some more Legos as a Christmas present. And I really do like the shirt that your DH got.

Yeah, Everett doesn't have any duplos yet, but I think they will be a big hit. At least I knw that if Everett doesn't want to play with them, my DH will :rotfl2:

Just found your trip report and wanted to join in! Very fun to read so far, and that's one cute boy you've got!

Thank you so much for reading along and for your kind compliments about Everett! :goodvibes

Really enjoying your report!:thumbsup2

My children are older teenagers now, but your report really sends me back to the days of holidaying with little ones! Great fun but a masterpiece of organisation!

Can't wait to read more :surfweb:

I can't say I have always been an organized person, but having a baby has really made me up my game!

I'm surprised your hubby wanted to buy a Disney shirt, even if it wasn't 'slap you in the face' Disney. That's at least a step in the right direction. John will wear the polos with a tiny Mickey on the front, but neither of my boys would wear any kind of Disney shirt anywhere.
If I get them a shirt in WDW as a souvenir, it has to be from Team Mickey or a gift shop that sells regular clothes.

It was nice that the little man was asleep and you were able to enjoy shopping without tending to him. He was very thoughtful. :thumbsup2

I agree about the boat. Too bad for the people having to wait for the next boat when it wasn't necessary.

The pizza does look good.

Dh actually does own a few other Disney shirts, but he will only wear them in the world, I was surprised about this one because usually I have to really twist his arm to buy himself something (his cheapness kicks in before he even makes it to the cashier and he usually puts it down), and because he has actually worn this shirt out in public in a non-Disney environment!

My sentiments exactly. I am always in a clinch with my SIL. She is one of those persons who will pay tons of money to go to Disney and then spend the half day sleeping in and in the afternoon she and her family will decide what they are going to. She thinks I am crazy of doing ropedrops and having my itinerary planned for every vacation

Thank you for the second poop story:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I am sure your DH will be eager for the Legopark that's opening in Winterpark.
I know my son's are and we have one day planned there during our vacation in December:)

You know, I haven't really read up about the Lego park, but I bet it would be a big hit!

It did take a lot of restraint, although if I wasn't planning on going to DHS the very next day, ditching them probably would have won out!

I'm glad Everett went right to sleep for you. DTD with a sleeping baby is the best.

I've never been to the wrong WPE. It's good to know it's there, especially if it's less crowded than the one in the Marketplace.

Yes, it may have been the wrong restaurant, but at least it wasn't crowded! :upsidedow

Yay! For your peaceful meal! We are planning on trying WPU on our upcoming trip.. glad to know there is a secret less crowded one!

I'm glad that I ate at the wrong restaurant, because now you all know that you can head over to the West Side of WPE Marketplace is too crowded. I'm like the Christopher Columbus of WPE! :lmao: Oh, and I checked the menu's they are the same at both Marketplace and Westside!

Nothing wrong with a drink or 2 at the playground while supervising.:thumbsup2 If there's something wrong with, then I'm a bad parent too.:lmao:

Looks like a fun day and a relaxing evening. It's too bad that Everett was more interested in the pool than the playground, but I'm sure he was just as happy running around inside as he would have been on the playground.:rotfl2:

Bummer Everett didn't like your playground plan, but at least he got to run around inside!!! :thumbsup2 And you got to enjoy your beverages! ;):drinking1

Sounds like y'all had a nice ending to the "rest" day. And a big "YAY!" for Everett sleeping through the night! :cheer2:

No worries about bad parenting, while drinking and watching Everett at the playground. It's a vacation for you too! ;) It is a shame that Everett found the pool to be more entertaining than the playground though... And Huzzah for being able to sleep for an entire night!

Hi, just found your report and what a great job you are doing...what wonderful memories for you all...BTW...so sorry about your brother's fiance's passing...how awful for him and both of the families....

we are going next month with our children and grandchildren ....the grandkids are 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 and we cant wait......this will be my GD 3rd trip and my GS first.....

we are staying at the BC.....my first time staying in the park....I am so excited....I love Disney...as does my oldest DS....my husband and other 2 DS not so much....actually DH..not at all....(I know)....(gasp)....:scared1:
what kind of person doesnt like disney......but it his defense this will be our 8th trip..1st with the GC...and he puts up with it ...(barely);)

Too bad the pool was so close to the playground. If Everett hadn't have seen, I'm sure he would have played at the playground happily for a long time.

I'm glad Everett went right to sleep that night. I have to say, I'd have considered getting up at six thirty to be not quite sleeping through the night. My mornings never start before seven, and luckily, my boys seem to agree and never get up before seven.:rotfl:

Hope you are all ok in Virginia, and not to shaken up.

Just found your report and I have spent a ton of time catching up on it. I don't have my own children but I have an 18 month old nephew who is the light of my life. I have loved seeing your pics of Everett! So cute! I want to take my nephew to WDW so badly, but my SIL says she doesn't want him to go until he is at least 3 :-(. Neither my bro or SIL is a huge Disney fan, but I love it! I haven't been to WDW since 2007 (but have been to DL twice in the past year) and am dying to go back with the toddler. I just have to figure out how to convince brother and SIL.

Anyway, love your report and photos and can't wait to read more!

We had similar problems with Colby at POFQ this past week with the playground being so close to the pool! Maybe Disney should plan that better...

Yeah for Everett sleeping peacefully while you and DH got to enjoy DTD!! Whoever invented naptime is a genius!!

It sounds like you had a very productive 'rest' day! And then to have it topped off with a full nights sleep courtesy of Everett! :yay:

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of updates! I was literally in the middle of updating this TR when the earthquake struck :scared1: So, you, my loyal readers, were technically in an earthquake too!

I live in a row house built in 1807, and I have questioned the structural integrity of the house, since everything is crooked and sagging and generally wonky. When the house started shaking, I thought that the second floor was collapsing! I dashed right into Everett's room, snatched him out of a nap, and then ran down the stairs out of the house. I thought that the house was going to collapse around me!

It wasn't until I got outside and saw that the lawyers from the office next door had also evacuated, that it wasn't just my house! Its funny because the lawyers also thought that their house was collapsing, so I guess I'm not the only one who worries about how these old building stay standing!

Well after all that excitement, we hung outside for a while, just to make sure the house wasn't going to actually collapse, and then I took Everett for post-earthquake celebratory gelato, which was enjoyed by all.

After that it was a mad rush to get to the airport, since I was flying out that night to go home and visit my parents and brother. It usually is pretty hairy getting to BWI with all the DC traffic, but today was even worse because they had let pretty much everyone in the DC region out from work early. Luckily my flight was delayed, so I was able to make it.

Now I'm home, and I don't have my notes or photos, so I'm sorry for no updates. I'm supposed to be going back home on Monday, but it looks like there is going to be a hurricane that day, so who knows! Suffice to say, I will get back on with regularly scheduled updates, when I get back home! Please stick around until then!

Glad to hear all is ok with all of this crazy weather we are having (well is an earthquake weather related? I don't really know) I was missing your trip updates so I'll have something to look forward to next week. Have a nice visit with your family. I hope each day gets a little easier for your brother. Have safe travels too!

Good luck getting back home! Sounds like the East Coast is sure experiencing its share of natural disasters this week. I'm glad your house didn't colllapse around you and I hope you all stay safe through the aftershocks and hurricane.

Again, I'm so glad y'all were okay in the earthquake. And I'm praying that the hurricane somehow turns more right to stay in the ocean & doesn't hit anyone straight on. Being in south Louisiana, I'm no stranger to a good ole hurricane beat down. I'm praying for all of y'all on the east coast.
