Spreadsheets been updated, gotta call Disney Dining
Rose, Stefanie, Brittany and Me arrive the Sunday evening before Memorial Day. We are driving down from San Jose via Monterey thru LA (sort of-I got directions on how to go around and still see the city.) Nan and her clan are flying down from San Jose. Paul has drivin this route so many times he's insisted they fly. Aisling, Chad, Jesse, Grim (John), Dede and Piper are scheduled to be in California with us but due to RL may not make it.
Rose will be driving, she's the driver, I'm the navigator, the girls are passengers. Very good, well traveled, passengers. According to my map, we will take 17 out to the coast to Route 1, also known as the PCH or Pacific Coast Highway. PCH is long, windy (wine) and windy (win.) It can make a weak stomach nauseaous. If an RV is traveling the PCH with you and goes really slow, so do we. That's the chance we take. I'm ok with that, we're on vacation. There's a thread on the
Disneyland boards about this route. I was rediculously reassured that driving the coast is the thing to do.
this is where I go waaaay off today's topic...
I am a photographer, that's what I do. This is my first time ever (besides toddler age) going to California. I wanna see the coast. Rose and I are completely in sync with this. We both LOVE the ocean, we vacation next to it together every year. We planned this voyage years ago, after 7 years of being girl scout leaders together. Rose and I were at WDW with our entire troop and all of their families, staying on property and sharing our love for Disney with them. We decided, as we watch these girls play, we would take them to the West Coast. Someplace Rose and I always dreamed of traveling to anyway, someplace we've had to wait over 30 years to get to.
We're Going To Disneyland.
Dinner Sunday depends on what time my carload gets to Anaheim, which depends on traffic. We have to check in at the Best Western and then most likely head to DTD for some grub.
The hotel offers a lite breakfast and I've pencilled in Blue Bayou for a late lunch on Monday. Disneyland is planned for first thing in the morning and maybe a hop over to DCA to check things out in the middle of the day. I've read that fast passes work better if you're willing to cross parks. We intend to ride as many rides as humanly possible. We don't do parades and I only have us scheduled to see one show. Aladdin.
Tuesday breakfast, I want to try the River Bell Terrace. I've read that Walt has spent many sunday mornings over seeing the goings on from that very balcony. It overlooks frontierland. It has a very centralized view and apparantly has an outstanding breakfast. Ariel's Grotto is my plan for Tuesday evening. The sun sets at 8pm and intend to be on that terrace to watch it. (I am a very strategic photographer

)
Ariel's is in DCA. We'll start our day at DCA, hop back to DL during the day and then go back over to DCA for the rest of the night and dinner. Ariel's just happens to be one of the few Disney locations in either park, that has a bar.
hmmmm, I wonder if they serve Lapu Lapu's there!
By Wednesday, my friends Nan and Aisling will have gone home to get the kids back in school. That's when it's time to head to LA! Hollywood, Venice Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Beverly Hills and Universal Studios! This is when Rose and me turn back into driver, navigator mode...
We have a one day pass for Universal Studios Hollywood to use in this one and a half days we have left. This is where I admit that my family and friends adore BOTH the Universal and the Disney Parks. We visit both, in different ratios, every trip to the World. Universal is known for it's rides and it's hollywood experience. My kids like that, so sue me.
I already have the park map, opening schedule and plan of attack all ready for when we get there. Universal opens like Epcot, one half at a time. The Tour is the absolutely must do first. If we don't get on that early enough in the day we'll probably never to get to at all. So that's first. The rest of the stuff can be done in 2/3rds of a day. We'll be done in time for dinner and have to find someplace in the LA area to get us some food. I'm thinkin nostalgic fast food, if ya know whaddI mean.
Ever seen the infamous hot dog stand?
The 31st of May, we move on to San Diego. We'll spend a few more days there, itinerary is still being tweaked for that leg~
...at least my Disney one is ready.
This is my dream. I've spent so many years organizing family trips to the world, I was destined to get to Disneyland.
Disneyland it where it all started.
All started with a Mouse...
