A Disney Fantasy comes true! Inaugural Eastern sailing TR--Now updated 5/10/12- Remy

Joining in! Great report so far! Your dogs are beautiful :) I also have a Mickey ear santa hat - my brothers and I all wear them at Christmas time - very special thing in our family. You have posted a bunch of great pictures so far! I am hoping to stay at BWI on one of my next stays, I'm sorry to hear that your room was so far away though. Great pictures of the ships atrium too - it really is beautiful. I look forward to reading more about your trip!

Many things:

1) I love your pictures. I can tell you are experienced with a camera!

2) I love your tone. Your writing is full of personality, which is really engaging to read.

3) I love that you were on an Eastern cruise since that's what I'll be sailing in two short weeks.

4) I can't wait for more!!!

Jenny :)

That autograph book!!! :worship: It's amazing!

Love the pictures. Love the dogs. Love the name "Mr. Quicklabs." I am really looking forward to reading about your adventures and seeing your pictures. We don't set sail for over a year (first-timers), so trip reports like this give me a glimpse of what we can -- and will certainly -- look forward to. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great start to your TR, can't wait to read more!
I agree wholeheartedly with Donaldsgal....love your photos and writing style!
Also love your crafting abilities, that autograph book is amazing..oh and your "kids"!!!:)

Your dogs are so cute! I have a 5 1/2 year old yellow lab that we adore.

Can't wait to hear more!

You are all soooooo encouraging and nice. :goodvibes

I sure enjoyed making that autograph book. I need to get the prints together to finish it off now, since all the Disney friends signed my little tags. It was the first album I've made, and I learned a lot in the process. I'm crazy about papercrafting--I'm such a paper junkie. It's a good day for Mastercard when I'm loose with a credit card in a scrapbook store. I just can't help myself. I have enough paper to turn out albums until I'm 114 years old. And still I buy more paper. I even love the smell of paper! How sick is that?

And I do love photography. Had to be content with using a not-the-greatest single purpose travel lens for most of the images, and I was taking most of the images from a wheelchair. (Yeah, that's the ticket--blame everything but the photographer). Plus, I'm not a snap and shoot kind of gal and I was too darn lazy to get up for the really good light. But Mr. Quicklabs doesn't have the patience to stand over a shot and he was the "motor" to my "wheels" so what can you do? Usually, when we're at Disney, he goes to the golf course and I go off shooting on my own--the secret to our 32 happy years is "Give me some space, wouldja?" So, I'm not particularly proud of this set of pictures, but they do help to tell a story.

As for my girls--well, they are the light of my life. They are both agility champions many times over --Augusta was nationally ranked in 2006-- so now you know why I chose this particular user name. I'm a crazy middle aged dog lady who doesn't know why people find the movie "Best in Show" so funny. I thought it was a documentary, not a comedy. :rolleyes1 Isn't everyone that way with their dogs? :confused3

Anyway, I'll have more up this afternoon. Thanks again so much for reading along and for your sweet comments.

Loving the report so far! Good pictures and good, personable writing... great combo! DH really wants to do the Eastern on the Fantasy, so I'm excited to read more!

With full bellies and happy hearts, it was time to participate in the 4:00 muster drill. Our station met in the Buena Vista theater. (We didn't need our oh-so-fashionable life vests, but I made sure I located them in the cabin) Our Team Leader saw that I was walking with some difficulty with a cane, and he led to me to a nearby seat. He also let me leave about 5 minutes early so that I wouldn't have to wait and wait for an elevator. I noticed other folks in my "condition" at the elevators. I will say right here and repeat frequently throughout this TR that I've never seen a group of professionals so universally committed to accessibility and attention to those needing some accomodation. They were all so kind.

Anyway, the drill proceeded. The team appeared to have their act together. I felt reassured. Although the team was thoroughly professional, I can't say that it was an entirely serious crowd that they were leading. Station E was in one part of the theater; Station F in another. After a while, it devolved into Station E trying to outcheer station F and vice versa. I personally thought that my team was louder and better.

Back up to the cabin. Mr. Quicklabs poured some Sangria into the large travel cups I brought on the trip. (Don't forget to bring those, folks. Cups, that is--the beverage choice is yours entirely) We went upstairs to Deck 12 for the Deck Party. The ship was just pulsating with happy, excited people. The show was started by Brent I'm Sorry I Forget His Last Name, who was the cruise director. This started a discussion between Mr. Quicklabs and me about whether or not Brent had also been our CD on the Magic in 2005. Mr. Q said he was; I said he definitely wasn't. After a while, I had to concede that I was wrong and Mr. Q was right. Mr. Q felt that was a bit of pixie dust for him right there! (For me, the Sangria had already taken its effect, obviously, contributing to my being so magnanimous to him.)

Anyway, everybody had little pom pon things and was waving them around and the crew members were dancing up a storm on the stage and around Deck 11. As you can see, we didn't have perfect weather in Port Canveral, but it wasn't raining, so it was all good.

Normally, I do not do well with this level of perkiness. Not...a...bit! (Think "Maxine"! ) But somehow, at Disney, I get all caught up in it. Now, this is a weird observation, but bear with me. Look at their shoes. I've never seen whiter shoes in all my life. Everybody's shoes were this white! Even the servers at Castaway Cay had spotlessly white shoes. I couldn't stop looking at them! Even when I buy a new pair of shoes, right out of the box, my tennies get scuffed up in mere minutes. I had flashback to Officer's Training School, when we had to make sure our shoes were always perfect. Do you suppose that it's like that for these guys?

Then, Mickey and friends came out and everyone really went nuts. I love seeing them.

The ship horn played those magical notes, ("When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are)which Mr. Q caught on video and which we'll try to figure out how to download and link for ya. I get teary just thinking about that, even sitting here. The ship moves so smoothly, I kept asking Mr. Q, "Are we moving yet, are we moving yet?" And indeed we were. I was waving like crazy, because I told my sister and BIL to look for us on the Port webcam. All the people on shore stopped to watch and wave and we began to head out to open waters. :wave2:

Everything is tiny compared to our ship. If you have eagle eyes, you can see the Carnival Dream off in the distance at the far upper left.

Thanks for reading and looking. See you real soon.
Next up: First night and day at sea.

Another great update! You had me teary-eyed just reading this update. I am so excited to hear those notes on the Fantasy in two weeks. I was watching the webcam this Saturday, and I have the various horns of the Fantasy saved as ringtones for my iPhone. I played them over and over while I watched it sail-a-way. Did your family see you on the webcam? I'm traveling with my sister and niece, and we've told our mom to watch the webcam in case she sees us.

Looking forward to the next update!

Jenny :)

We're neighbors, I see (p.m.'ed ya)
No, my family forgot to look. Obviously, they weren't as excited as we were about the trip. Where did you find the ringtones? I'm not sure if it would even work on my phone, even if I did find it. My cell phone is so old, it practically has a phone cord on it! ;)
Wishing you a happy voyage>

I am loving all of your pictures!! I'm glad to read how well the CM's were with guests who have disabilities or accessibility issues. I also have issues with people who have too much perkiness on a day-to-day basis - but agree that when you're at Disney, it is a different thing! Looking forward to more :)

I was on the ship with you! I love your pictures and my husband & I are in the sail away crowd. He is standing off to the right side of the party with a red ball cap & gray tank, I'm standing on the pool deck, right side, with a plum colored shirt (can see the back of me). I take horrible pictures and I am so happy to see yours & maybe I can copy a few.:confused3

I love reading your report, it's like reliving the trip! Can't wait to read more. :woohoo:

We are dog lovers too! The chocolate lab in my avatar has passed, but we have another named Daisy (Disney inspired).

I am excited for all of you with pending Fantasy cruises! And a special shout out today to my fellow cruisers who were with us on this voyage. Are you guys still having Post-Cruise Withdrawal Syndrome, like I am? There is apparently no known cure, but having another cruise booked can decrease the associated symptoms of depression a bit! :-)

We were also on the sail away with you. My son and I are near the middle of the stage a few rows back. He is wearing his blue tie die Aquaduck shirt and on my shoulders and I have on a red disney T-shirt. Fantastic time had by the whole family and certainly miss it already. Seems my wife and I often recall 10 days or 12 days ago at this time we were doing this on the Fantasy etc... Cant wait to read more!!!
