A Disney-addicted mom: 2nd annual August trip and Marathon Weekend *Update 10/7*

Awww, happy birthday to Zachary! Drum set :scared1:! You're brave parents!

The drums are definitely noisy. And very popular! I had to bite my tongue this morning when Nathaniel (the 7 year old) was playing quite loudly. :lmao:

My brother had practice pads for his drum set- my mom always said it was money VERY well spent.

Life has been crazy so not much time for updating!

I joined a local women's running clinic on Monday evenings. The local running store sponsors it and it's free. We meet at the store at 6pm and have a short lecture. Then we divide into groups and run. I've gone twice now and LOVE it! I've met a really diverse group of women and I think it's pushing me a little harder. I usually do a Galloway run/walk thing. There is a run/walk group but it's the beginners so I picked the run 1-2 mile group. This week we ran closer to 3 miles. It's continuous running and it's pushing my pace a little. It's been really awesome.

Mother's Day was nice. We had beautiful weather. In the morning we met my family at the Bronx Zoo. It was fun. We've been members of the Zoo for 8 years and we go frequently. My family, on the other hand, had no idea where anything was. Sort of like Disney.... :rotfl2: In the evening we invited MIL over for dinner. A pretty mellow day.

We just signed the contract for our house. We're waiting for the sellers to sign (the trustee for the estate is on vacation this week). Money's been a little tight so I haven't done much for the trip. I want to start pre-paying our room (Tom just got a nice little check so that will help!) and maybe even buy some Disney gift cards for food. I was thinking I could buy the gift cards $50 or $100 at a time so that we don't worry about cash so much when we're there. Has anyone done that?

I'm starting to get excited for the October cruise, too. I need help figuring our Fish Extenders. I think I may buy a Fish Extender on Ebay or Etsy. I'm thinking I'll get one for the whole family so we can use it on future cruises, even though the October one is just Tom and me.

Glad you had a nice Mother's Day! The weather here is finally getting nice!
Your runners clinic sounds SO nice. I'd love to find something like that to join!

How far are you? The clinic is in White Plains.... You could totally still join if it's not that far.

I have done a very poor job of keeping up with my trip planning. Shame on me!!! :lmao:
Life's been crazy. Really crazy. I had a work trip to DC last Friday/Saturday. I got home at midnight on Saturday night so I could be here for Jessica's ballet recital on Sunday morning. Her costume was Snow White. As soon as Tom uploads the pics, I'll post some. She looked beautiful!!!! And she was clearly born to be on stage. Look out world.... ;)
My kids now enjoy the game: What do you want to ride when we're in Disney World? Nathaniel's first choice is usually Mission:Space. Jessica usually says TSM. Zachary doesn't remember enough to have an opinion. My 1st choice is usually Soarin'. The exciting news is that Nathaniel agreed to maybe try ToT again. I have only been on ToT in Disney Land back in 2007. I love that ride and it makes me sad that I never get to go because my kids are afraid. :scared1:
I've also been thinking about how to spend our non-park day. One thing I've been researching is a fishing excursion. They have them from CR so it would be convenient. My kids are very interested in fishing. This is quite amusing to me because neither Tom nor I know the slightest thing about fishing. I posted a thread in the resorts forum and everyone who responded told me that the fishing excursions are awesome and would be perfect for non-fisherpeople like us! :thumbsup2 I may need to "sell" Tom on the idea which may or may not be easy....

Amanda

The fishing excursions sounds like lots of fun! I'm not really into fishing myself- mostly because my dad is a hardcore fisherman. (Jace just turned 12 and I still get razzed every year on his birthday for having a baby on opening day of trout season, lol.) It's not always fun for kids to fish with someone who takes it that seriously- which means your kids should have a great time with you and Tom.

I think you hit on one of the truths of life - it's not always fun for kids to do ANYTHING with someone who takes it too seriously! :lmao: I remember once talking to a dad who refuses to go to Disney ever again because his wife insisted on commando-style touring long after anyone else in the family was enjoying it. :scared1:

The fishing excursion sounds awesome! I remember reading about an early morning fishing trip a young boy and his dad had in the World Showcase Lagoon. It sounded wonderful!

My DH's family are all hardcore fishermen, Mark never quite caught the bug, but he enjoys taking the boys to local ponds occasionally.

I think everyone will enjoy the change of pace and being out on the water!

Thanks Dee. Still need to convince DH....

Hey Amanda! Just stopping by to say hi and see what's going on in your life. :goodvibes

I'm great, thanks. Loving our new house. :thumbsup2 Finally got our treadmill put back together after the move and started working out again. Have to get training for that Marathon Relay. :rolleyes1

How are things with you? Any news on the house?

Yup! We officially have a signed contract. They cashed my check so it looks like things are moving forward. The title search can take an eternity in NY so it may be 60 days before we close.

Amanda

Great news for the house! Hey- do you use an iphone? I have started running (only bc my friend does and I can talk and talk...) Anyway, I use the Nike+ GPS app and I love it! I was thinking that you might find it cool too!

I'll have to check out the Nike+GPS app. I have a new-ish iPhone so I'm still figuring it out.

I've been SO busy at work that I somehow missed that we're below the 100 day mark now. :scared1: I totally need a vacation, too.
Next Friday we're going to Sesame Place for one night. This is Zachary's "birthday party" and he keeps asking about it. He's so sweet! I hope it's warm enough to be a fun trip. If not, the hotel has an indoor swimming pool. :thumbsup2
My travel agent has been away on the Disney Alaskan cruise. It sounded awesome! Now that she's back I should probably start thinking about some more planning...

Amanda

White Plains is very close to me. Hmmm. I'll have to think about it-- I just started a new job in the city and things are very crazy!
I've always wanted to go on an Alaskan cruise! I'm sure your TA had a blast! I hope you all, especially Zachary, have fun at Sesame Place!

Westchester Road Runner is right on Post Rd just South of the Toys R Us. It's next door to Liberty Travel (one block before the Toys R Us). I usually park in the municipal lot behind Haiku. Even if you don't decide to do it now, they have an ongoing running group on Monday evenings and they re-start the beginning clinic every year. If you want to go, let me know and I'll meet up with you so you aren't alone. For some reason I thought you were further north in Westchester.
