Now I'm currently reading How to Be Like Walt: Capturing Disney Magic Every Day of Your Life It was another Christmas present. It goes through the ups and downs of his life and then stops to point out what made him successful in each section of his life. So far, I like it.

I got this book as a present recently too, but have not started it yet. I'm glad to hear that it is good!

I have been reading free classics on my Kindle like crazy the past couple weeks. There are many that I have never read so I am enjoying discovering them. I just finished Swiss Family Robinson.. different than I thought it would be but I did enjoy it. Currently reading The Scarlet Letter. Not sure how I feel about this one yet. On my upcoming list is Wuthering Heights and Les Miserables.
I have tons of books loaded on my Kindle (over 80--they add up fast! )--I was getting overwhelmed so decided to get some of the classics read before I buy any more.

I noticed that most of the classics are free on the Kindle App for iPhone. That is a nice treat. I have a few downloaded just in case I need something one day.

I don't have a Kindle..yet - but I am reading the classics. I'm halfway done with Treasure Island. It's so good! I'm going to read another classic after that. I think 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I'm trying to hold out until Apple makes an announce on their new product before I get a Kindle- hoping the new Apple product can read books on it plus more!

I just got done reading Janet Evanovich's fourth book for a few hours. I am finding this one funnier than the other three. There's this hysterical scene where the main character (a very, very inexperience bounty hunter from Trenton, NJ), an ex-prostitute, a drag queen, and an 80 something year old lady go on a chase in Atlantic City. I nearly fell off of the bed laughing so hard at how it went down.

I've heard that her books get funnier as you work your way up the series. I'm loving every second!

I also have the free Stanza app on my itouch and that one has a lot of free classics that I've been able to get. You don't have to enter any info to get the free books.

Oh, man-I have laughed out loud at those books more than anything! Between Grandma going to everyone's funeral and the ex prostitute who always wants to shoot someone-it's just hysterical. Growing up in NJ makes it even funnier because my Grandmother went to all the funerals too! I think it's a NJ grandma thing...

I am currently reading books by JR Ward. She is a paranormal romance author, but the stories are excellent. Also, I am reading White Guilt by Shelby Steele. I am reading it for an education class I am taking. Also, for the same class I am reading A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer. This book is about child abuse and will piss you off, but I can't put it down. This man went through some serious abuse and was able to overcome what happened to him to become successful. Excellent book about resiliency.

I should have never started looking at the books everyone is or was reading. I work in a bookstore and this discussion is very dangerous for me. After checking out recommendations, I think I will probally spend my paycheck at work. LMAO!!

A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer. This book is about child abuse and will piss you off, but I can't put it down. This man went through some serious abuse and was able to overcome what happened to him to become successful. Excellent book about resiliency.

Books by Pelzer are extremely popular with the high school students who use the public library where I work. I found the descriptions of abuse too difficult to read.

Why are these books so popular with the kids? Is it because they identify, because they are in similar situations? Or is his life so bad that it makes their own lives seem not so bad?

Building a dream: the Art of Disney Architecture, by Beth Dunlop

Anyone else read this one?

Well, I finished the book. I found it to be a bit too heavy on the architecture for the casual Disney fan, but still fascinating. After reading plenty of Disney books, especially relating to building the parks, I have found that there isn't too much new info out there. This book was different. Yes, they talk about building the castle and about forced perspective. However, in this book, I learned about Disney buildings I didn't even know existed, such as the Disney Casting building in Florida and the various hotels in Disneyland Paris. This is what kept this read an interesting one. (The book is over 10 years old, so it doesn't take into account recent additions to the Disney architecture.)

I took it out of the library, so it was well worth the money.

Now, I'm reading Supreme Injustice: How the High Court Hijacked Election 2000, by Alan M. Dershowitz. I admit that I really didn't get a grasp of what happened between Election Night 2000 and January 1st 2001 when it happened. This book has opened my eyes, and I'm fairly shocked as to what happened in this country - specifically the behavior of our Supreme Court. I find the book so far to be very heavy on the legal talk, so I get lost fairly easily, but I get the point. We'll see if I make it through. Then I'll have to pick up some light reading...

What age/grade do you teach? I'm on the last Percy Jackson now and am enjoying learning more about mythology (or at least remembering what was taught to me back in the dark ages) I read Touching Spirit Bear last year after a HS librarian recommended it. It was very good as well.

There is are apps that you can download for free that will enable you to read Kindle books on your PC or an iPhone. I get a few books off of Amazon for free -I just search for free or look at the Kindle bestseller list because the free books usually end up there.
For the classics I normally get those from Project Gutenberg. I haven't played around with that site too much because I have a catalog on my Kindle to download those, but I imagine it should be fairly easy to download from there onto a PC also.

I swear it's a Jerzy thing too because mine did the same dang thing! I agree growing up in NJ makes the books all the more enjoyable because you can relate so much better than someone from another state.

Yes, those are Janey Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. They are getting funnier as the numbers get higher. I think they're just hysterical.

I teach fifth grade reading. My kids love the Percy Jackson books, but I have yet to read them. Apparently there's a movie coming out soon, too? I'm behind on that.

I finished reading Hidden Mickeys and really enjoyed it. It's a fun adventure quest book. The Epilogue is sure to delight die-hard Disney fans and rankle the Disney family. The authors are working on another Disney-themed novel and a sequel to this one. I also finished Castmember Confidential. I'm not sure what facts the author got wrong, but I was put off by his arrogant tone and his superior attitude over others. Is it true that Cast Members are not allowed to help guests with medical emergencies? It seems to me that would be a PR nightmare, not to mention the lawsuits.

I am now reading Shadow Divers by Robert Kurston. It's about divers who explore a sunken German U-boat off the coast of New Jersey.

I read that when it first came out and there were parts that took my breath away.

Thanks for mentioning that book. When it first came out, it sounded really good. Figured I'd wait for the paperback to be released and then promptly forgot all about it.
