A CM told me...

I don't consider Cars Land to be a "clone" of Test Track.

First, of the multiple wonders of Cars Land...
only the Radiator Springs Racers is a single attraction that uses similar drive vehicles to Test Track.

The kind of drive vehicle is where the similarity stops.

RSR is an astonishingly well-designed attraction, only if you were to look at
the wonderful multi-scene build-up to the actual race.
There is a great story to the attraction.
(OTOH, Test Track completely lacks in story since the conversion to the Tron-like
sets.)

RSR outdoor sections are breathtakingly huge and wondrous to behold.
This goes both before the dark-ride sections are entered and later, during the racing scenes.
The current Test Track is a pale "half-cousin, twice-removed" to the fully fleshed out, thoughtful, humorous...
and downright amazing... RSR of Cars Land.

Then, there is all the rest of the theming, attractions, and food of Cars Land...
But, that's another post.

What they all said! ^^^ :)

I would love to see both Carsland AND Star Wars. I don't view RSR as a clone of TT. I also don't think Dinosaur and IJ are "clones." Even if the track layout is exactly the same, the experience is entirely different.

Amen brother. I've been on Dinosaur and two versions of IJ since June and Dino is a distant, distant third.

Honestly, ANYTHING major that Disney can pull off in a fast timeframe should be 1st into DHS...

They already proved that with Frozen Summer Fun. With recycled floats, recycled costumes, recycled CMs, and a Premium Package (*free water and Mickey Bars*), there was no need to add a costly attraction to increase park attendance. I would look for FSF II next summer before any ride completions.

I certainly hope there won't be a cars land. We already have Test Track, there's no need to have a clone in another park with a different look. I'd much rather see newer rides and other Pixar movies being added. I don't see the reason to import the same attraction from Disneyland since we already have Test Track. So I'm hoping they utilize the space for something better.

The only similarity I can see between Test Track and RSR is they both use cars as vehicles. I've never seen Cars Land or ridden RSR but just the pictures and videos alone have us rethinking that 3rd trip to WDW next year that we were planning to wring out every drop we could from our AP's.

Our last trip to DL was less than magical, in fact said we'd never return, but Cars Land...the grandson would love it.

I doubt there's many people who would travel to WDW just to ride TT. It's been years since we rode TT- it's blah now.

Carsland would be great. Test Track doesn't even compare to Radiator Springs Racers, especially the new Test Track.

EDIT: I just read the whole thread, ROBO put it much more eloquently.

And, DCA management has already decided to change Luigi's Tires. LT reminded me of the "Flying Saucers" - actually were based on them - that were located outside of DL's gates many years ago!!

Yep :thumbsup2

Living in California and being a regular visitor to DL & DCA and also having been to WDW several times, I think that a Carsland at HS or even just RSR would be a great idea! Carsland is incredibly well done (and I wasn't a huge fan of the movie!) and our family LOVES RSR (which as pp's mentioned is nothing like TT). Also being big Stars Wars fans, we would love to see a Star Wars Land too!!

I have not been to the one in Tokyo but, I'd put Disneyland IJ over out Dinosaur as well.

Besides the track layouts are totally different between as seen in this overlay. There's 3 whole sections that are different. :rotfl2:

*Found on this old Dis post http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=45429137&postcount=137 that references a micechat thread.

Of course as everyone has mentioned, The ride vehicles may be the same but the experience is totally different. Just like Haunted Mansion and Little Mermaid both use omnimovers but are totally different.Or Triceratop Spin, and Magic Carpets of Aladin. (Oops may have gone one too far)

I've never been to Cars Land so I can't comment on it, although I do enjoy the movies. I was at one of the Star Wars weekends last year and the Studios was mobbed. I was 8 years old when Star Wars came out, and it was a HUGE part of my childhood. And now it is for my kids. Heck, it's one of my dads favorite movies.

I think a Star Wars land, done right, would be an unbelievable success. The multi-generational appeal would be amazing. It could be their answer to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal. No matter what they would spend on it, it would be virtually guaranteed to make money hand over fist for years to come, especially with new movies coming out in the future. To me it's a no brainer.

my thoughts exactly!

I really do doubt that they are simply going to do a copy/paste of Carsland into DHS for the exact reason that has been said - keeping it in California gives incentive for people to visit both.

I do imagine Disney bringing in more influence from Pixar however. With Backlot Tour closing and Lights! Motor! Action! seemingly to follow, it would give them plenty of room to expand Pixar Place with more attractions related to their animated movies - including a rumor of a Monsters Inc roller coaster.

This leaves a good corner of the park open for Star Wars as well.

CM's at the parks know next-to-nothing until the plans are just a day or two away. Seriously. They are on the lowest level rung in the Disney "need-to-know" chain. Please don't trust what they say unless it comes from an Imagineer's mouth.

I REALLY hope Cars stays away from WDW. It makes more sense to have it in California, not to mention that they deserve to have something unique like that to them and ONLY them. In North America anyway.

Plus, Art of Animation is already like a mini Cars Land, add in Test Track and you've got the whole thing.

I would much rather they just keep to focusing on Star Wars, Pixar films and other Disney films, still kept in a "Studios" fashion. Turn the Great Movie Ride into a complete immersive time travel adventure through all the years of Walt Disney & to newer Disney movies like Saving Mr Banks. Close Indiana Jones and add an actual attraction, not just a show. And eventually Marvel will find it's place there too. Plus have a few special landmark attractions like the ToT and RnRC(which is probably due for a musical change soon)!

I am sure this is nothing anyway. Lots of times we know more than numerous CMs do....!

CMs know pretty much what we know unless they are high up in the company so doubtful. I wouldn't expect a full size Carsland clone in WDW, but a cars ride is very very possible. I think this will be an overall pixar expansion not just cars. I also think Star Wars will get expanded in DHS but in the echo lake area and not right away. Pixar will be first. One things that is for certain DHS is going to be seeing some massive changes over the next few years.

I have heard of cases where CM's clearly knew LESS then we know about what is going on in the parks. I also agree that a complete clone of Carsland is unlikely, but I think that is even more likely then them not exploiting Star Wars in DHS. Marvel and Star Wars are going to be massive money makers for Disney until at least the end of the decade, and probably longer, and since they are limited in what they can do with Marvel in Florida I think we will see a major increase in the Star Wars presence.

I find it to be true at least half the time I speak to a CM on the phone, and much of the time I ask a question at concierge.

Just a gut feeling, but I would think that most Star Wars additions would be in a Phase II expansion. They might have some pretty good ideas of what they want to do with Star Wars at the moment, but seems they wouldn't have had enough time to get the design work, make the drawings, and get bids on the construction to start building it at this time. I think this Phase will be mostly Pixar related as they probably had plans on the back burner for some time. Just my feelings/opinion.

I think Star Wars expansion will be after the first movie is out so 2016-17ish

One thing I know for sure, Disney *needs* something for little boys.
Star Wars isn't really a *little* boy theme, unless a little boy has parents who like Star Wars. I know if you asked any of my kids...or any of the kids I know...they probably wouldn't even know what Star Wars is. DHS is seriously lacking anything for young kids right now and TSM is not enough on it's own to make me want to use a ticket on that park. Unless something major happens we'll be skipping that park on our return trip.
I don't even need a whole Carsland, if they had some Cars rides, maybe a Plane ride, I'd be happy

I don't have kids, but I do have 2 nephews who I pretty much think are the greatest ever and they know all about Star Wars. And not because my brother and sister-in-law or myself are nerds about it. There's Star Wars: The Clone Wars that's been on Cartoon Network since 2008, Star Wars: Rebels which is on Disney XD. Trust me, most little boys know about Star Wars. They may not have any clue who Luke Skywalker is or that Han definitely shot first, but they know. A Star Wars Land would be huge. I love Cars, it's my favorite Disney/Pixar movie, but keep Cars Land (terrible name, btw, missed opportunity) in California. Amp up Pixar Place with elements of all of it and bring on Tatooine!
