A CM said WHAT???

This isn't anything rude/inappropriate/offensive like many of the other posts, but what I want to know is this: Why does it seem like so many Disney transportation CMs, in particular, have odd rumors to share? On more than one occasion we have heard a monorail, bus, or boat CM say something like, "Did you hear that the monorail will be extended to reach MGM within the next 3 years?" or "They're getting ready to rebuild and re-open the River Country waterpark and it'll be bigger and better than before." And then of course these things don't really seem to be in the works.

From reading here on the DIS I have learned that I'm not the only one who has heard quite a few good rumors from transportation CMs!

This struck me as particularly rude for some reason- who cares if you didn't want to wait in an obscenely long line for a character picture? Thankfully rude CMs aren't the "norm" at Disney ;)

My DH and I have several character pictures with someone else's family in them cuz we are in too much of a hurry to wait in line but we like the characters. So, if you were standing next to Mr & Mrs Incredible or "Kitty" from Monsters Inc. you may be imortalized in our scrapbook! :rotfl:

"Some of them have never visited WDW as a guest. Their first experiene with WDW was when they began working there. It must seem incredible the way people spend money at WDW. There is no way they could ever do it."

Just gotta say...I work at a Police Department and I have never been arrested...yet I manage to do my job (with my Disney Customer Service Training)! And many, many people save for years to go on a Disney Trip! I know I do!

hi
whilst waiting to watch spectromagic last year a tourist was asking a c.m. which country had the worst park guest - he said in a loud voice the british. he stated the rich ones don' t think you mean them when you ask them to do anything and go a head and do what they want and the others tell you to get lost. he may well have a point but i donit think hr should have expressed it. there were several people who were understandable angry.

We just came back from our stay which included the Hilton, Beach Club and The Grand Floridian. Well, at the GF (Concierge-Main Tower Room), I had 2 incidences (same CM). 1st incident: We just checked into our room after a long evening of playing at the parks (moved over from BC) and had apparently already had turndown service done in our room. Well, I called to request some extra towels, pillows and blankets and the reply I got from the CM?? Did you already have turndown service? "Yes," I replied. To which she replied, "And you STILL need extra towels and blankets??" I couldn't believe my ears! And the next night we came back after an afternoon at the MK only to find out that the water had been turned off in our toilet and it was not flushing. Well, we had 5 people waiting to use the toilet and when I called to complain about it and to ask when they were going to send someone down (it had already been a half hour and noone had come) She replied, "Well, why don't you run down to one of the other rooms and use the toilet there." (She was referring to one of the other 2 rooms in our total party). I told her, that I shouldn't have to do that if I'm paying a pretty penny to have a working toilet in ALL 3 rooms!

Have I mentioned lately that I am stressing about our GF trip? See above!! May I ask if you know the CM's name so I can avoid them? And thereby keep myself from having to post bail while on vacation (for assault)?

We had a server in the Magic Kingdom once who was from another country. We asked a question about something on the menu and he said with a big smile "insert the Lord's name in vain" I can't remember. When he walked away from the table DH and I just looked at each other and started cracking up. We still see him on every Disney trip at the same restaurant so I guess he hasn't gotten in trouble yet for cursing to the wrong table. I just don't think he realized it was a curse word.

I'm not sure what he said, but the Lords name is not a curse word to most people. If it was "GD" then yes, that was wrong, but if he said "JC" that's NOT cursing.

Slightly off-topic, but I heard a Universal employee use the F-Bomb a couple weeks ago!! :earseek:

Uh, I would definitely consider it a curse word -- without a doubt.

No need to pick apart the poster's comments . . . the CM she/he was referring to was rude whether or not anyone thinks it looks like a mountain on the inside or out. Make love, not war.
Thank You! I was about to post a similar comment when I read yours.

This was not from a CM, but was on our way to WDW...

We were flying to Disney in Jan. right after 9/11 with our 3 children ages 5, 3 and 1. At the airport, my husband was asked to remove his shoes and an airline security man scanned them with a wand. After my husband put his shoes back on, the airport security guy leans over to my 5 year old son and says " Do you know why we check people's shoes? Someone put a bomb in his shoe and tried to blow up an airplane recently!". This is right before we are about to head to the gate! I think my husband and I were in shock at first and we kept on walking. We just couldn't believe he would say that. I got so angry that I called the airport, and the airport security company to report him.

That is outrageous!! :earseek: :earseek: I would have been livid!! I understand why you and your husband were in shock. I'm glad you reported him!

Although some people with extraordinarily strong religious beliefs feel that saying "JC" is cursing, that falls against most mainstream beliefs.

If I were a supervisor and you came to me and said my employee was cursing, and I asked you what he had said and you said "JC", I'd have a hard time not laughing at you (no offense, but how do you make it through life if that's offensive?). I'd apologize (it would be lip service) and tell my employee that you had complained, but wouldn't reprimand him for it.

While it might be considered inappropriate by some, it's far from the seven deadly words.

I think this is one of those cases where the offensiveness of a word is somewhat ambiguous. Some people might take it as a HUGE offense, while others (like myself) use it rather flippantly in every day speech without giving it a second thought. But when you're working in the service/tourism industry, it's best to monitor things like that and just not say them. You never know who might be offended, and you're being paid to uphold a certain amount of professionalism ;)

Just starting reading the thread. My 2 cents: JC is a very personal thing to many and hence is more offensive than a GD, to which I think we grow accustomed.

Back to the thread... On an equally hot DIS topic. Did you know that Disney World offers pool hopping to any resort guest? It is part of the "global village" concept. I let it slide (no pun intended)

Hmmm -- perhaps you are not informed as to what is appropriate for those of us who have been brought up to know that using such reference is not only offensive, but sacreligious. No, I don't run around throwing Bibles at people, but I do have certain standards that I find most comfortable, as do many other Christians.

And I can assure you, anyone like yourself who states, "If I were a supervisor . . . I'd have a hard time not laughing at you (no offense, but how do you make it through life if that's offensive?). I'd apologize (it would be lip service) " as you just did is in no position to be a supervisor. And I feel comfortable in guessing you are far from this position. I can assure you, that attitude would never cut it in my company. If any of our employees took this attitude of "hard time not laughing at you" or your apology as "lip service", they would be fired in a heartbeat . . . and rightfully so. We don't have room for that, thank goodness! I guess that's why we are as successful as we are. :teeth:

On our honeymoon trip in November of last year, I purchased a hooded sweatshirt in one of the shops on main street on an especially chilly night. It's the navy blue hooded sweatshirt that has "WDW" in red and blue stars and stripes and says "an american tradition" under it. I think I paid about $65 for it- but it's good quality, and that's really how much I expect to pay at disney. On our past trip two weeks ago, I had the sweatshirt on while walking out of EPCOT one evening. As I was going through the turnstyle, I noticed a male CM about 26-27 years old looking at my sweatshirt. When he realized I noticed him staring at my chest ( :rotfl2: )- he said "Those sweatshirts cost a fortune... I can't believe YOU people actually spend money like that here"------- I just kind of gave him a raised eyebrow look and kept on going. I couldn't tell if he was just kidding or being serious. My husband (the real sarcastic one) said, as we kept walking... "well, I'm glad he liked your shirt".
Good thing he was working the turnstiles and not the shops!! :rotfl:

I have to chime in here too. If the word was JC then I don't look at just saying the name as being in vain. I look at it as if the person is praying for help remembering...ie..."JC I can't remember, please help me remember." Now if it was GD then at least the D part is a curse...

Well, maybe not cursing to YOU. To a Christian, using the Lord's name in vain is cursing, no matter which of His many names you use. "JC" is one of His names, so I consider it cursing.

If that original CM didn't realize what he was doing could be offensive to some (and I know not everyone would find it offensive), he should at least be informed that it IS offensive to some people and he should curb it while on the job. If he had said that in front of my children, I would have quietly spoken to him about it off to the side (so as not to make a bigger deal out of it in front of my kids). If my kids weren't with me, I would have called him on it.

Someone had posted earlier that anything can be considered offensive to somebody, and I agree that you can't please everybody all of the time. But this form of cursing is offensive to enough people in this world that that CM (and the rest of you who curse like this!) should know there's a good chance you're going to offend somebody by using it.

Just my .02

It is to some of us.

Can we just get back to the topic of this thread? Please take your debate elsewhere.

Now, anyone have any more good stories to share? I am happy to say that on our 2 trips we have not encountered any rude CM's :sunny:
