I read that since last year during Christmas time Cinderella's Castle takes on a snow castle appearance after dark. Can anyone verify this and when exactly does it happen?

At DLR it's Sleeping Beauty Castle. :)

It is indeed covered in snow-looking stuff, and you can see it all day. Looks better at night, and the lights go on once it starts to get dark, which is pretty early in the late Fall into Winter!

Here's night

I don't have one of day because, well, I don't like how it looks during the day. LOL

Sleeping Beauty's Castle! You need to train us WDW folks.
Gosh that is beautiful. We will be there on Christmas Eve. Looking forward to seeing it in its majesty. Thanks Dennis

Here's a shot during the day.......

NostalgicDad,

I still don't like the snowy castle in the day, but GREAT reflection shot! And I like your dusk shot (almost as much as the word "dusky" :goodvibes ).

Great reflection!

When the park is open late, they have the snowfall effect at 5:30pm, 7:30pm, and again immediately after the fireworks. Please note that Disneyland will turn off the snow/icicle effect intermittently(meaning that just the wreath and garland is lit up) leading up to the shows. After the fireworks, they keep the whole lighting effect turned on for the rest of the evening.

You must check out the castle at night...it's amazingly beautiful! The snow covers peaks and the lighted icicles are grand. If you get a chance the light show during the fireworks is even better! Plus the snow falls as well.:cloud9:

Thanks for the great photo's and the details. The castle at WDW does not have those effects. As I mentioned we will be there on Christmas Eve for the festivites. On a number of occasions we have been at WDW on New Years Eve and we got swallowed by the crowds. I suspect the numbers will be crushing but maybe this time we can find a spot where we can breath.

I have said many times on this board that you will do NYE ONCE at Disneyland because you will not believe that the crowds could possibly be as bad as everyone says they are. Then you will know and will never do it again.

I don't think that Christmas Eve is quite that bad for a few reasons.

- The park closes earlier - 9pm.
- Not everyone is in one concentrated place at a specific moment (i.e. Main Street at midnight) like on NYE. They are more spread out throughout the park.
- Due to the nature of the holiday, I believe less families chose to spend Christmas Eve at Disneyland than NYE.
