It's been awhile since I had the time to go on the boards but I have to share my experiences and thanks with the DISboards members and Disney. June 18th my husband was diagnosed with stage 3b esphoguel cancer. No symptoms, no warning. Just a month before he started having trouble eating and after a series of tests, we received the news. After a summer of he**, chemo, radiation, a feeding tube,, etc. , in October received the news that the mass had shrunk, was staged at a 2 to zero and he could receive surgery. Ironically, the day of the surgery was the Day we were supposed to leave for our 19th F&W, halloween vacation. 15 days later In sloan Kettering he was released cancer free. 65 pounds lighter, surgery involved losing 2/3 of his esphogus and 1/3 of his stomach but after the whole ordeal was cancer free.
I want to thank all of of Disboards members who sent me messages of support, encouragement and sharing there own experiences. Although I knew I was not alone, it helped knowing there were others, who don't even know me, who cared. As far as member services, they were also phenomenal. I called them over the summer to discuss my options and was told whatever they could do, they would work with me. I cancelled everything in September and Disney also was kind enough to refund my MNSSHP tickets.
Recovery has not been all that easy but is getting better day by day. He said he wanted to go on a cruise so I took the points and booked a 4 night cruise leaving on March 2nd and then 6 days at BWV. Don't know how we were able to get BW but someone was on our side. We have been to Disney countless times so if he needs to go back to the room to rest, it will not be a problem. He is supposed to,eat little meals throughout the day so the cruise is perfect - he can pick all day.
We were told that it will be a year before he feels "like himself". He is eating but can't gain weight so I am hoping that the stories about gaining weight on a cruise will work for him. It's been rough but somehow you find inner strength to get through what life sends you but you can't do,it without people who care and their support.
My love and thanks to,all,
