A 9 & 11 year old in a stroller?

Our first trip as a family of 4, the kids were 8 and 12. They had waaaay more stamina than mom and dad! We stayed out for EMH until 3am. My mom was really mad at us for doing that. Guess who was the first family ready to go the next morning.......not my retired parents, not my sister's family with two toddlers......my family was up and ready to roll.

Kids are far more capable than many parents give them credit for.

The last time we took strollers for our trip was their first one - when they were 2 & 3. The next year, we went for a 8 night trip with no strollers, and the kids did fine at 3 & 4 years old. We didn't overdo things, though.

I realize that there is always instances of children needing strollers for medical issues, but short of those, I really don't see a reason for school aged children being wheeled around.

This thread reminds me of the conversations I used to have with women who judged each other about having an epidural, or breast feeding, or so many other things!

Who cares if someones 6 year old is in a stroller! We went to WDW w/ friends. My friend brought her stroller for her 6 year old son. On occasion our then 5 yr old would ride in it. I thought it was great!! One evening, the older kids wanted to ride Space Mountain again, but our little one was so tired. We snagged a disney stroller, he rode in it, fell asleep, and my husband and I had a relaxing time just sitting, waiting for the kids while the little one slept. I don't think he's been permentaly scarred or will become a drain on society b/c we let him sit in a stoller!

I remember a time in EPCOT when our twins were about 6, oldest 8. We wound up getting a disney double stroller b/c they were tired. We had them on the go that trip and the walk around the coutries was catching up to them. They weren't whining, but we knew they were tired. They took turns riding and we had a much more enjoyable time. Going back and forth to the room to relax doesn't always work for everyone. Of course at the ages they are now (14,11) they wouldn't go in a stroller.

My point is, why do some of you get so riled up b/c a 6, 7, 8 yr old rides in a stroller at Disney!! Not eveyone goes as frequently as we do and maybe they just want their kids to not be tired and grumpy and enjoy the trip more. Maybe it's their only trip and like my kids, they may be worn out, but they still want to be there and go on rides. How does a kid in a stroller impact anyone besides the one pushing the stroller!!

Great Post!!! My thoughts exactly. If no one is getting hurt, who cares!! I would rather see an 8 year old in a stroller than a child getting punched in the stomach!

Conversely, why get so riled up because a 3, 4, 5, yr old can and is expected to walk? People act like it is some sort of child abuse to expect your children to be age appropriate. Or if they are walking they are doing it against their will and moaning and crying the whole time.

First of all, I'm 12, and if I was seen in public in a stroller last year, I would have DIED. Those kids must really have looooow self-esteem.

My daughter will be 4 in September, and we take our double stroller to WDW, but lately, to the zoo, museum, other places, we just take an umbrella stroller for my 12 month old son. I can see us still using the double for at least another year, but IF there is ever a baby #3, she will be promptly kicked out for good!

So, in general, barring disabilities, I think that 6 year olds are old enough to be kicked out of the stroller.

We went to WDW a month after my youngest turned 5. Taking a stroller wasn't even considered.

We stopped using the stroller before her 3rd birthday.

Five years old. If they can go to school and they can sign up for team sports, they should be able to walk.

AND PARENTS NEED TO SLOW DOWN TO MATCH THEIR KIDS.

Nope - my daughter weighs 48 lbs and is 10 years old. She wears size 7/8 clothing.

My 10 yr old is 5' tall and is in a size 0. She is 75 pounds give or take.. there is no way she'd fit into any stroller. My 8 yr old might.. shes in the 50 pound range but she'd die first... Heck my 2 yr old hardly uses a stroller!

Thank you for putting all of this into perspective. You are absolutely correct, we shouldn't judge kids in strollers (or adults in wheelchairs), there are many non apparent disabilities.

Really people, just go enjoy your vacation your way and quit bashing anyone who may care to do things a bit differently than you.

I am a parent and a friend. I have older kids that are not on drugs,jail,or obese. Like I also pointed out scooters with overweight people is annoying but I don't treat them rude or write posts about them.

I can only imagine how coddled and immature they must be. She might even wipe their butt and bathe them.

Extra strollers causes a lot of congestion in the parks. Exiting in the evening people run all over each other. Extra strollers in the stroller parking clogs up the exit and entrance to the attractions.
