A 9 & 11 year old in a stroller?

I posted earlier about my child using a stroller. After reading all the posts I still feel the same about using it. Discipline and exercise having nothing to do with it. If her shorter legs can't keep up than the stroller comes in handy. Do we tell overweight people to stop using scooters that tie up the bus lines and cause double the space when walking in the parks? Can we tell foreigners to speak english while in the park so we can understand them? Can we tell the people who wear their clothing in the pool that bathing suits work better? Can we tell the room with eight people in it that 4 is the limit? My guess is probably not to all the above. So me and my stroller will be leaving for Disney in two weeks.

:thumbsup2 Really people, just go enjoy your vacation your way and quit bashing anyone who may care to do things a bit differently than you.

I think what this lady really needs is a scooter or a wheelchair, because strollers....come on. She HAS to be trolling. The weight limit for a stroller at max is 40lbs, maybe 60lbs. She needs an examination!

There are strollers (quire a few) with 55lb weight limits, and I'd venture a guess that the plastic Disney ones would definitely hold more than that.

I highly doubt that she is trolling. This seems to be a legitimate issue for many people.

thank you - I was hoping someone would know the answer to my question. so how is 8 to 11 year old under 40lbs?? I would wonder what is wrong with the child to be underwieght that they could fit in them. You would need to rent a special needs stroller or a wheel chair for the older kids to be safe in them.

You are right, there are quite a few Maclarens that hold up to 55lbs. I dont think a 9 or 11yr old are 55lbs. I have a Maclaren myself, but I am NOT about to push my almost 6yr old in a stroller at Disney any longer. Kudos to those that want to give thier kid a *ride*.:sad2:

My daughter is 8 and weighs around 56lbs. The stroller still goes. I'm guessing it could handle 60lbs. My whole purpose in responding to this post is to say,"Who cares!" If a child in a stroller is the worst you could see in Disney or anywhere for that matter consider yourself very lucky.

My DD weighs 48 lbs and she's 10. :lmao:

WOW..very thin. Lucky girl!!!

Does she have a stroller? ;)

I dont care who puts who in a stroller, ANYWHERE, its just crazy for the reason its happening...IMO. I am sure my kids get tired too, but suck it up buttercup! WE ARE IN DISNEY and woe is me that your legs might get a bit tired for a while. Plenty of resting time in this magical fortress. It's not that bad kid!!!!

Everyone is tired after a long day at wdw. Work with the weakest link, and that means that people are not killing themselves. :)

I hear you. I really do. But at those ages she has TWO weak links? It sounds like she is babying them. If I gave in to my kids whines at every instance, oh forget it...sad. :guilty:

oh, I see worst but what I hate is having to get around alot strollers or having them run into you. if a child needs a break then you should take a break not give in to the whining or if they can't keep up did you think about going at the kids speed??

I want parents to be parents not the kids best friends

no, I won't say anything unless you are ramming the stroller into my legs (but that is usually kids pushing the strollers.

well, i didn't say that well! I was agreeing with you. Take it easy, and all will be ok.

I am a parent and a friend. I have older kids that are not on drugs, jail,or obese. Like I also pointed out scooters with overweight people is annoying but I don't treat them rude or write posts about them. Breaks are great but I still will bring my stroller.

LOl...yup. I thought you were, just really kills me nowadays the amount of parents who wont parent. Its so sad.

We have a new guy at work that is 28, his first job and he is asking the big wig of the company to hook him up with furniture a roommate and such. He went to college, too. When will and does a child learn to cope on his own and deal with things that arent handed over? Oy.

Actually, there are more brands than just Maclarens that do. It's something that, unless I've just been oblivious, seems to have changed in the past couple of years. Even Wal-Mart has a Jeep brand one with a 55lb weight limit.

That's pretty much beside the point, though.

Would I push my 6 yr old in a stroller? Probably not. That being said, next year we will have a sit-n-stand. DD will be 5. Will she use it all the time? No. Will it come in handy at some points? Yes. Would she even have the option of a stroller without her little brother? Barring unforeseen circumstances, no.

That being said, if someone else wants to push their kid in a stroller, hey, more power to them. :dance3:

I agree with the scooters (even around town they are annoying)

so what is the oldest that you will push your child?? if not disable(that is another thing - love the motorize for those kids, at least the ones that can use them)

what is oldest that you will push your child - or is it a wieght issue
I won't say anything - I'll just assume there is something wrong with your child that you can't see

the other thing that gets me is seeing kids (4, 5 or 6) with "blinkes" in their mouths -- that is more for the thought that the dentist says they are bad for their teeth.

Here's a thought... If your 7, 9 or 11 year old starts to wear out, feed them some ice cream. If that doesn't work then it's probably time to head back to the hotel to relax. What self-respecting 11 year old would be caught dead in a stroller anyway?
