Every time I think that I have it figured out, I question it again. I have read the official rule and have read through all of the posts that I can find and every time, I'm still confused. I'll be really specific with my question and see if I can understand this time.
* I have used all my points for 2010. Can I borrow from 2011 user year points during the last four months of my user year.....to book a trip at a DVC Villa if space is available?

I know someone with great DVC wisdom will be able to help.

Not a problem. The rule of four affects non-DVC stays and banking points. You can't book the Disney Collection and go during that same period during the last four months of your use year.

You can borrow those points and book a stay at a DVC resort if there is availability.

Thanks for the expert info :goodvibes:goodvibes
I can now make a plan with confidence, and check with MS for availability :cool1:

From my understanding it "could be" a problem. I also thought the rule of four meant your could not Book & travel in the last 4 months of your UY. I have a December UY, my understanding is that if I want to travel in Aug, Sept, Oct, or Nov, I would have to Book those stays prior to Aug. So no last minute fall trips for us.

Am I wrong?

You can stay and book for DVC resorts you just cannot use the point to book Non-DVC options. So last minute trips in a DVC room is possible if there is availability.

The "Rule of 4" does not include DVC stays - only non-DVC options like Disney Collection, Concierge Collection and Adventure Collection. With a December Use Year, you can not reserve a stay at the Poly after the end of July for a stay August-November of the same year but you could reserve at any DVC Resort (based on availability) for a stay during that time right up until the end of November.

Thanks for the clarification :thumbsup2 Good to know....... With the double holiday week in November this year , and if I can get a good rate on airfare maybe I can squeeze 1 more trip in..........

PMDR59, I understand the confusion. I think I've "understood" it many different times, and then think about it differently.

And thanks dzorn and WebmasterDoc for your expertise.

I feel like I have a good grip on it now. Maybe this will be helpful to others with doubts.

I will use myself as an example. We became members in October 2010 with March use year. Booked VGC in October for February 2011 trip and banked remaining points. Then realized in January that we need to add more days VGC is fully booked so we booked Paradise Pier instead by borrowing points. Yes, the Disneyland Hotels, like DVC resorts are excluded from the rule of four.:thumbsup2

I treat it as an On-Off button. The only time the concern switch gets turned on is for banking or non-DVC stays. Banking is easy, either I need to or not. The other half (non-DVC stays), I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. :thumbsup2

As I suspected, all of the dates that I was interested in are full, but I have my Rule of Four understanding for next time I need it. Thanks to all who helped explain!
