9 Magic nights in Norway 6/20/2015

Rachel, you have been on lots of DCL cruises.. Just check to see if we have ever been on the same ship

Hi Stitch1313!

If you have time...can you check the times for the following port adventures for a family of 4? Also, I have never been on a Disney Signature port adventure. Have you been on one and was the experience worth it? Any feedback would be fantastic!

THANKS!!!!!

Alesund- AL11 (Viking experience and Gioske church)
Geiranger- GE08 & GE06 (farm trips)

Hi lola1972. I'm sorry I couldn't get back to you until now. I spent last week in Walt Disney World. I'm still trying to catch up. I checked on the excursions you asked about. I checked for availability overall, as I couldn't check for a family of 4 specifically. For the AL11, I see a 2:00 pm departure, for the GE08, it is unfortunately listed as sold out, and for GE06, it shows an 11:45 am departure.

I don't know if I've ever been on a Signature port adventure. I just choose what looks interesting to me and I don't think I ever noticed if they were called Signature or not.

Hope that helps.

For those of you who will be staying in Copenhagen before or after the cruise...how have you figured out if your electronics will need a converter or a transformer to work in your hotel? I've Googled it and it seems that phones require a transformer and other electronics (curling irons, shavers, etc.) only require a converter. SO confused. Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi Stitch1313... I did a bit of researching as well and I thought I read that my iPhone does not require a transformer. But something with a motor or Fan would require one. So a Laptop would (but most of them have them built into the power charger) and a Hairdry would. I will need to do a bit more research, best to ask your phone provide or manufacture on what they require. Yes to the question and the only way is to do the suggested action in post 205.

Stitch - the way I always think about the converter/transformer issue is this: If it is an 'electric' item (plug in like a hair dryer, curling iron...) then you need a simple converter. If the item is 'electronic' (item has a chip or circuit such as a battery recharger or computer) then you need a transformer. The good news is that you can use a transformer for both items, thus saving yourself the need to buy both a converter and transformer if you want. Granted, if your item is a dual voltage unit, then you don't need to convert it at all - just use an adapter.

Hello everyone,

I am so excited I finally found this board as I have been hanging out on the CruiseCritic roll call for the Disney Magic and our June 20th cruise where there is little activity. But no more, I have found you all. We are the Nichols Family (Eric, Linda & Zoe, age 7.5) and this will be our 6th Disney cruise, 2nd on the Magic and second time to Norway as a family. I have done a lot of research like many of you and below are our planned excursions as they exist currently,

Planned schedule by Port:

Copenhagen - On our own, Tivoli Gardens and Fairytale Canal Cruise
Stavanger - I am hiking to top of Pulpit Rock on the Disney excursion and cannot wait. My girls are going on the Lysefjord Land & Sea Tour and will miss them but I will wave to them from the Top as they cruise by.
Alesund - Sunmore Celebration with Anna & Elsa, what else! Exploring Alesund during free time and hike to Mount Aklsa for the view
Geiranger - We have hired a private driver. Our planned itinerary is to see the most popular sites, Mt. Dalsnibba Viewpoint, Flydals Gorge, Eagle Road, Westeras Farm and the Fjorsenteret Center (4-5 hrs). There is also option at Westeras to stop and do the 45 min hike each way to the Storseterfossen waterfall, purely optional, not included in rate. This would case us to incur an additional 2 hrs of rental time. If another family is interested we could join up and share a private mini bus. If anyone is interested, please let me know asap so that I can reserve a minibus. The price is NOK 4.050,- for 7 persons (incl. toll road to Dalsnibba). This is ~$512.00 Total for four hours or ~$73 pp. You cannot beat this nor what we will be able to experience as a small group. Should this excursion exceed more then 4 hours, there will be a extra charge of NOK 850 per hour. If anyone is interested in joining us, please do not hesitate to let me know asap.
Molde - Trollistigen Mountain Road, full day with leisure time
Olden - Briksdal Glacier and potential river boat cruise on Lake Loen. Anyone interested in hiring a private drive for the day, not with DISNEY of course as they are simply too expensive for us.
Bergen - On our own, explore the Brygen waterfront area, fish market and funicular to top of Mount Floyen

Good luck finalizing your activities and if anybody else is reading this, let me know if you have any questions as I am full of Norwegian Information at this stage of the game and have cruised to Norway for 15 days with Princess previously. For all of those who have not visited Norway before, it will become one of your most memorable vacation destinations. We look forward to meeting with you on this forum and also potentially meeting on board.

Eric & the Nichols Family

Eric, we are also doing Pulpit Rock on our own as are a few others. Some of us are chatting on other social medias sites. I agree that The CC board is pretty sloe for Disney cruises. We are glad you are joining us.

Welcome! We are also going on the Anna and Elsa excursion as of now. My kids are too young to do Pulpit rock through Disney so I think we will have to skip it this time around. It looks amazing though.

My husband has Norwegian relatives so we have been a few times but never with the kids so we are excited to take them. Had to be with Disney of course!!

JC, can you contact me via email to let me know where the Pulpit Rock group is meeting? enichols106@yahoo.com

Thank you, lucky one. I appreciate the reply and input.

Hi Avery's mom,

Thank you for the response and input. That makes it seem much simpler. So, it seems once I figure out which items are dual voltage, then I'm set.

Hey guys! Im John and my wife is Jenn. We are both amped for this cruise! We are doing the pulpit rock hike as well, just not sure if Disney or on our own.

Hey John, I definitely understand the dilemma in Pulpit Rock excursion as you can clearly do this excursion without Disney with just a little research and will share them with you below. Since I am doing by myself, my wife and daughter, 7.5 are going on the Lysefjord Land & Sea Tour and I figured by paying for the Disney excursion they will take care of all of the transportation coordination & availability with bus & ferry so that I can simply concentrate on the day, the hike, the scenery and the overall experience. That for me is well worth the price of their excursion and I amanita fighting with locals, other cruise ship passengers to gain way on to buses, ferries and then have to constantly check my watch to make sure I am okay for time. Maybe if I had done it previously, it would be different but that is my opinion. As far as the companies, www.pulpitrock.no and www.tidereiser.com are two who offer tours if you decide to do on your own.

We are gong to have an awesome cruise and cannot wait like yourself and perhaps we will meet on the Top of Pulpit Rock. Take Care.

Eric

Excited for this excursion with Anna, Elsa and Kristoff and sure Disney will make it worth the price. That is what I keep telling myself to justify the cost. What time is your excursion? Ours is at 1:45pm giving us a lot of time earlier in the day to explore Alesund.
