After reading this thread about Awkward dining Experiences
www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1169616&referrerid=88677

I'm feeling a little nervous about dinner companions :scared1:

We're linked with our oldest ds & dd and a Dis family.
Our only other 2 cruises we had our own table. So, we've never eaten with anyone else! :)
I linked our ressie with another Dis family w/kids of similar age. I did it without telling dh... I can't remember if I told him yet..... Maybe he'll read it on this thread and email me about it. :teeth: He usually emails me about my spelling mistakes on this thread :rotfl: :rotfl: Dh isn't a talker -- I usually tell people that I'm his *Spokesperson* :teeth:

I've been reading that thread, also. Interesting.....

We have Late dining (our TA tried to convince us to keep the Early dining) and are really hoping for the 8pm slot -- I may have our TA (she's a good friend of mine) call and see if I can request the 8pm time.

Those videos were great. I just watched them with my dh (who by the way isn't coming with me on the cruise) I will admit, I did cry. I will definately miss him on this trip...

fish extenders?? do I need to send anyone money or something to be involved with this fun??

I am not a wine drinker, but will gladly bring a bottle of NH wine, lol..it isn't made of blueberries!

I bought my daughter and I tshirts that match. We have matching Minnie Mouse jammies, matching dresses (Waikiki), Ally is excited...

This is not my first cruise, but it is my first Disney one. I have sailed on Costa (1), RCI (2) and CCL (3) BRB (1) with another CCL planned for January 07 and RCI's new Freedom of the Seas November 07. This is my first vacation without my dh though... :guilty:

We also have late dining, but I really want early...as Ally will sleep through dinner if we have to keep late, lol.
If there is anything Lisa and I can do...please let me know.

That looks great! Certainly ALOT better then the ones I've been working on today.... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'll post pics when I'm finished -- I forgot to get bias tape for the edging.....

I am using a variety of fabric for ours -- ex: Tink, 2 different Winnie the Pooh, 2 different Disney anime and a Hawaiian Mickey print. Along with a solid green backgroud.....

Some of us have bought something to use as a Fish Extender and others are making theirs. You hang them on the *fish* that is on the outside of the stateroom door and other disers can leave notes & small gifts for you. We can only do that if we know your stateroom number :)

You are still welcome to join us! I will make sure there are snacks to eat with our wine! :teeth:

This will be such a great *mother/daughter* trip! I've taken lots of trips with my kids when dh wasn't able to come with us so, it can be done! :thumbsup2 And it makes it even more fun that you have a friend with you!

I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get Early seating!

My 15dd wants to be a CM (she's a Ballet dancer and acts in local theater) BUT, she's too tall to be one of the female characters! :sad2: She's right under 5'9". She would  to be a Face Character!

Or she could be one of the parade dancers or if she can sing one of the singer/dancers who perform in front of the castle! I did get to dance in a parade down main street (when I was in my early 40's) ...it was the thrill of my life. There is nothing like the opportunity to turn frowns to smiles... If your daughter wants to know anything about being a professional dancer, I'd be glad to talk with her during the cruise. :dance3:

Glad to see all the newbies on the board. I think Steph5 is doing a great job!!!!!!!! She is definely keeping the magic of Disney. pixiedust:

Disney up-graded on our last cruise two weeks before our trip. The DCL just left a message on our answering machine stating our room was need for a guarantee catagory. Just a heads up they do not assign rooms early. :thumbsup2

I'm feeling a little nervous about dinner companions :scared1 We have no children with us and I was told they usually give 8:30 to adults. We were across from a table last cruise that only showed up twice for dinner. Guess they did not want to pay tips so ate buffet every night. :rolleyes1

My DH and DD are not what anyone would call joiners. DH is in retail and interacts with people all day long. His idea of a vacation is being only with his family and doing solitary things so I don't think I will be able to get him to the wine tasting. DD is extremely shy and prefers to be by herself or only with family:sad2:.
I will be lucky to get them to the DIS meet! ;)

I, on the other hand, am looking forward to meeting all of you :woohoo:
I'm not sure how, but we have Main dining so probably wont' see half of you at dinner. Hopefully we will run into each other around the ship though.

I have a countdown going at work so everyone there knows exactly how long till my cruise. I like to be subtle about these things! :lmao:

Carol

Hi Carol,

Welcome to our group! I can image how difficult it is to switch cruises at this stage in the game. Good luck telling you DS. I know my DSs would not take that news too well either. My son chats with Pirana (Stephanie's DD) almost daily. It gets them pass that "I don't know anyone" phase faster.

We have so many newbies, I am going to post a note with door magnet info to clear things up in just a bit.

We're glad you're joining us and look forward to getting to know you too.

GoofyGuy777 - One of the first things I did when we decided on this cruise was to watch your and Diznylnd's videos. I hate to sound corny but they almost made me cry - it just seems like this group is going to be so much fun and friendly! I am having to leave my DIS group that I have been getting to know for the past 8 months getting ready for the Holiday cruise, which is hard. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! DH and DS are not into this "DIS" thing, but I got DH into the idea of door signs, so he has been hard at work for the past 18 hours making some! He is a Goofy fan also, and has adopted "GoofyDoc" as his nickname for the cruise. DS doesn't know yet that we switched cruises; we just got home from picking him up at the airport after a week long missionary trip in Baja, so we will get around to telling him some time this weekend after he gets used to being back. He was really looking forward to cruising at Christmas, so this might be difficult.

Ginny,

I've been thinking about this too. It's always touchy when you sail near the beginning of the school year...new teachers and all. So get sort of huffy when you tell them you're taking the kids out for a cruise. This is the first year oldest DS will have to deal with professors at college. Lucky one is a marine biology professor. I can't imagine he'll have too much problem with it. DS will probably have to do a special report on the marine life he encounters during his scuba dives and snorkels.

Not sure how my youngest's teachers will react. Most of his teachers have sent the missed lessons with him, so that he won't be behind. I remember years past when my kids were doing homework on the plane to Orlando, during days at sea, on the plane home, etc. Youngest has 1 1/2 days off during the cruise so at least he won't miss as much school. I would be interested in hearing how others plan to handle this with teachers.
Oh,well...like you said...we're going anyway:rotfl2: .

I better start drafting my letter to the school so they excuse my kids absences. Either way we are going but it would be much better if they consider them excused so the kids can make up their work

Hello and welcome to all our newbies! I'm getting emails from some about door magnets, so I thought this post might help save a few multiple emails.

BTW--If you don't have time to read all the multi-pages of this thread, I highly recommend reading the few pages of the website to get up to speed on everything. The link can be found in my signature below.

I'm quoting straight from the website, with one addition:

Door Magnets
If you would like to print your own DIS magnet to put on your stateroom door please send a PM(Private Message) to DisneyGirlTinkerbell with the following information: Screen Name, Real names of those in your room, any special occasions you are celebrating, and your email address. She will create your customized door magnet for you to print out on your own computer. You can purchase magnetic paper at a local office supply store. You will need to download a font provided in the link to have the "Disney script" in your door magnet.

I have to confess, one person asked if I could print their magnet since they were having trouble. I checked through my emails but couldn't find the one where I agreed to print it. I can't remember who asked me. If you are that person...please send me a PM so that I can print and bring it to the sail-away meet.

Also, I will be busy packing, arranging transportation and such as we get closer, so this will be my "last call" for door magnets for everyone other than additional newbies. I will continue to produce requests for any new folks that join us in the coming weeks, but I don't want to get slammed at the end with a bunch who just forgot to request or procrastinated. I know there are lurkers out there...speak now or forever hold your piece:rotfl: .

I hadn't given this much thought because my ressie was linked with a former co-worker and her family. We planned to dine together. Unfortunately, due to her son's illness she recently had to cancel. Now I'm a bit worried that we might get the "tablemates from hell:lmao:" after reading that thread!!! This has never happened to us before and we've shared tables with families on a couple of previous DCL cruises. They've been great and it was fun sharing our experiences from the day.

I'm open to linking dining with a DISer family, but I don't know how to do it. We have early seating.

DisneyGirlTinkerbell: Did you receive my email address and additional information? Just checking, since these boards are a little different than I am used to on "another cruising site". Thanks for all your kindness in doing the magnets! Sounds like fun.

Chris: If you are reading the boards, I have signed us up for the "ladies lunch"!

Count Jeff and me in for the wine tasting. We do have some wineries here in Wisconsin but then tend to be weird fruitty things...but if you are game, we are, too!

DF Terry likes sweeter wines, and if we have room in our carry ons, we will bring a red and a white from Western PA, so count us in, also!

Early Seating?? I want to sit with you...LOL..

I have to arrange transportation as well. I am going to contact the same company I use for our Disney Trips. I use the same company for me and for clients...great service!

Not only is my DH not coming with me, neither are my 17 yo dd and 13 yo ds

Daughter is a senior in High School...too important of a time...and she doesn't want to miss school anyway. My 13 yo ds is in 8th grade, but same situation for him...as he goes to private school...and needs to do realllly well to get into high school the following year!

I would like to print out the door magnets....

I feel a little lost coming into this so late, lol...I will work on something for our door...hmmm, disney fabric...off to the store today!!

Morning !!

Still looks as though we're the only UK disers on the cruise !

On the subject of UK etc, I have been looking for some wine to bring with us - due to the climate there are only a few wines here and they are English or Welsh. Scotland only seems to be able to produce Whisky and you probably would want that would you? ;) The other issue with this is whether we would be able to safely transport the bottles the distance without breakage - my DW Helen doesn't think it's a good idea to find out. Any thoughts??

Regarding "Fish Extenders", is this likely to be available in WALMART? We haven't seen anything similar here in the UK so we realise we may have to "make-do" with something off the shelf. Helen has bought lots of items from the Disney Store for all you disers (we still get DVC discount in the UK) and as previously mentioned she can't wait to give them out. Once they are gone it's going to leave lots of room in our cases for all the goodies we want to bring home with us from WDW. :Pinkbounc

Only 11 more working days for me before we fly so everything seems to be moving up a gear almost on a daily basis - all the cases have been weighed to avoid excess baggage and apart for something for Helen to wear on Pirates Night, I'm sure that EVERYTHING has been taken care of.

Although my father died nearly 15 years ago, we were surprised to receive a cheque on Thursday for further funds of over £1300.00 - ($2500.00) so that was a pleaseant shock!!

Yesterday, I had to go to the Dentists where I had a Root Canal Filling and a polish :teeth: - total cost £42.00 - ($80.00). Absolute bargain - since April the charges in the NHS (National Health Service) have been totally restructured so you can get more done for less. We are actually lucky that we maintained our registration at a NHS dentist for many years. A new patient now would HAVE to go private and the same treatment would have cost 3-4 times more.

Just remembered another question, is Cherry Juice readily available to buy in the States. Helen has heard that it helps people with ME / CFS (see my previous posts) but we cannot find it anywhere in the UK so we will try and get some in Florida.

As I type, DS(Alex) has just had a phone call from a school-friend on holiday in Hong Kong, what with the internet as well it really makes you realise that it is a small world after all!!

Speak to you all soon

David :wave2:

I forgot to add, a big welcome to all the recent joiners to this thread. :thumbsup2

David
