9/27/14, Returning to the Southern Caribbean

Here's a question for you today.

How did you decide what room you booked?
Example which side of the ship and why, which deck and why? Or did you just take what ever DCL assigns you?
Some people study rooms and positions on the ship alot before deciding.

Answer:

Greg is the one who studies the cabins and picks them most of the time.
We like Aft rooms with clear balconies, starboard side for the view of CC and higher up the better, just for the feeling of being up high. Besides Its easier to spy on other ships while in port to see what they look like with the binoculars if we are high up. LOL!!:rotfl2:

We like Aft because the elevators are never all that busy. Midship elevators are terrible most of the time. I dont like forward due to the extra motion on the ship.

Kathy

Most of my experience is with the Magic and Wonder so I can not speak to the Dream and Fantasy.

We like the clear verandah over the navigator verandah.

A few cruises ago, we tried one of the four partially obstructed verandah rooms. These verandahs have the clear panel on the bottom and only a small top corner obstructed, but they are priced the same as a navigator verandah. Since then, if we are trying to book a verandah, we try to get one of the these partially obstructed verandah rooms.

When we first called to book the Southern Caribbean, we tried to book the cruise going out on the 20th, but all the partially obstructed verandah rooms where taken, and boy are we glad they were :thumbsup2 because we ended up booking this cruise.

There are other factors we look at too. If we are booking an inside stateroom we will try for deck 7 aft. Aft. is easy to get around and deck 7 aft. is close to the secrete verandah on the back of the ship. If we are going to Castaway Cay we will try to get starboard so we will have a view of the island, but if not going to Castaway we will take pot luck on port or starboard. If there are four of us going we can't use the partially obstructed verandah rooms because they only sleep 3. If all else fails, we pull out our deck maps and try to stay at least a few doors away from the laundry rooms and other potential noise generators, like elevator lobbies.

I don't think we have ever left the decision of room and room location totally up to DCL.

We like Aft port verandah rooms! On the Wonder and Magic we try for 7112-- just steps away from the elevators. Why? Our first cruise was on the Wonder in 7112---just liked it! On the Fantasy and Dream, we tend to stay port on deck 9--- still like aft!

WOW!! That's a long time for a bathroom remodel. But i'm sure now that it's done it's been well worth the wait. Did you do before and after photos?

Kathy

My parents usually pick out our rooms. We have always gotten the verandah. I don't know if they chose a side of the ship or not. Midship seems too hectic though for sure.

the actual remodel took a little over two weeks because of a problem with the glass door. Then it was waiting on the painters and the shutters. The shutters were installed yesterday. ALL DONE!
I have lots of pictures, both before and after, but I have issues posting pictures here.

Pretty quiet around here lately.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Anybody looking at excursions yet?

Kathy

Not yet. Two cruises before this one to plan first!

Good morning everyone,

its a cool cloudy day today, but soon it will be too humid for summer here in Florida, so I guess I had better enjoy the cooler days while I can.:thumbsup2

Off to look at more excursions again today.

Kathy

I also have 2 cruises before this one but I still look look ahead of time for excursions.;) it helps to pass the time for me.

Kathy

True, but with three park trips and two cruises coing up ( the first trip in 50 days! :thumbsup2), plus full-time employment...I'm pretty booked. I might take a peek and tag up a couple of interesting ones....

I do have a slight advantage since I no longer work outside the home. I have a lot of time to study excursions :goodvibes

50 days will fly right by!!!

Does anyone have an extra 5-10 minutes they can spare every other week or so? I am currently wearing many hats, between several cruises. One of my current tasks for this cruise is to update the ROLL CALL on MicroSoft Excel (spreadsheet). I'd like to ask if someone might be able to take over that portion for me.

It's not hard to do ... the XLS file is already uploaded on the Facebook page. All someone needs to do is peruse the DISboard page when someone new joins the DIS thread. Currently, most people post their name, and where they are from ... so there is very little to do. If information is missing ... no bother ... omit it.

Ideally, this can be accomplished once or twice per month, with about 5-10 minutes of time every other week or so. So, do I have anyone willing to lend a hand?
