9/24/09 3 Day Wonder - Cruise Meets, and FEs, and Goombays oh my!

yeah jen the part where the slide goes off the side of the ship is what makes him not want to ride it. I like the garden dining room it sounds really neat greg thinks it will be cool to see the ceiling change from day to night during dinner. Congrats karen i wish my job would work me more than they are now but they have hired holiday empolyees and now we dont have enough hours for anyone other than full timers to get more than 2 days so i am at home alot.

yeah same here with disney, they will only contract people for 20 hours a week max. i think they get round some labor laws that way or something. so i have to stick to 20 hours a week and hope that they offer me some overtime, but overtime is only 4 hour shifts, and it costs me about an hour and a half's wages in gas to get there. so i dont really make much off it. plus its really stupid, any overtime i do after november 7th, i wont get paid for til AFTER christmas. stupid.
so when my old boss at the theme park asked if i wanted to come back tomorrow instead of january i jumped at it, doing 3 days a week at disney and 2 at the park, but at least at the park i get paid weekly

i've had one of those crap days, been at disney all day, for 4 of the 8 hours i was stuck on front which is basically greeting people as they come in the shop. dont normally mind it that much but for 4 DAMN HOURS it was really starting to p*ss me off..... that and the attitude of the stupid customers, and from one member of staff, and other drivers p*ssing me off on the way home, basically its been a BAD day. but i did bump into a friend i havent seen for about a year and a half so that was cool.
gotta go upstairs now and try and find my old uniform and iron it. i just want to sit down and chill out, but still got to go do stuff.

Hey girls! How is everybody? I had a 3 day weekend and today is my Monday. I'm a little slow to react today. I forgot my ID card to get me into the building (luckily the lunchroom door was unlocked so I didn't have to walk around to the front entrance) and I accidentally took my desk drawer key home with me on Friday and forgot to bring it back to the office. So I can't get into any of my files. Oh well!

I went to see Live with Regis and Kelly yesterday morning in NYC. That was a lot of fun! I wish I had thought to get a new battery for my camera because I wasn't aware that we could take pictures (we were allowed as long as the flash was off). Of course, I take two pictures of the set and the camera dies. So no pics of Regis or Kelly...or the guests who were Ted Danson, Julia Louis Dryfus, and Scarlett Johansen! Again

i keep doing that, i went up to the scottish highlands one day while up in glasgow, took my camera out, and realised i didnt have any batteries in it at all, let alone flat ones! our first cruise, my memory card ran out of space about 5 mins into the sailaway party........ i'm not lucky with cameras!!

well today was my first day back at adventure island. it went ok, bit of two faced *****iness from the people i used to work with but nothing major, but it was a bit wierd. i mean it was kinda good to be back but i just kept thinking about what made me leave customer services in the first place. i took the job back because i needed a job, but i didnt particularly want to go back and do another summer there. i dont know what to do, i might just start looking around for other jobs. but i dont want to let gemma (boss) down, she's been really good to me, and she gave me my job back so i dont want to let her down or leave her in the sh*t. oh well, still got 2 months (the length of time til i leave disney and go back there full time) to decide what to do.

I see her updates on facebook periodically but I haven't seen her around the DIS for awhile.

I would just stick it out for now and then figure out what you want to do. You can look for another job in the time between working there and at Disney. Nothing has to be figured out right now.

My sister quit her job last week and she told me she was on the internet sending resumes out for almost 6 hours yesterday. Crazy! I hope she finds something soon.

i wont be quitting before finding another job again, i did that when i left the park last year and it took me 4 months to find another job, i just cant afford to do that, but i'm going to start looking around for another job i think, i just really dont want to do another season there really.

i'm really tired this morning, it took a lot of effort to get out of bed! definately looking forward to friday (day off) and sunday (day off with gary). need a lie in!

well i had a MUCH better day at work today than i had on monday, i left the store today without wanting to kill anyone back at the theme park tomorrow then day off!! yay!

It used to be 7-3 but they've changed it to 9-3, which is a lot better even though it meant cutting our hours. I'm usually here by myself on Saturdays so when it's not busy, it gets a bit boring.

i ordered a pair of custom timberland boots about 3 weeks ago (as for some stupid reason you can't buy an all black pair without having to custom order them ) and they finally turned up tuesday. i've got a pair of the same boots in a different color, so ordered these in exactly the same size. well i got them out the box and tried them on, thought "they seem a bit tight", but i thought they might stretch a bit while wearing them, so wore them to disney today. god my feet hurt now. they're not massively tight, but they are definately a bit snug.
problem is that timberland state all the way through the ordering process that all custom sales are final. thats it. no returns at all. but i've just called them and they've agreed (as a one off) to take them back and refund my money. if i want a new pair i have to order them as a separate order off the website. so i've ordered the next size up, its only a half size though, as they dont do a half size for anything over a size 8 (US 10), so i'm hoping they're a bit better. the way i see it is that even half a size has got to be better.
the only prob is that i now have to go back to wearing the cr*ppy cheap boots to work for the next 3 weeks til the new ones turn up, and that i have to wait for them to refund my card, while they've got another payment off me for the next pair, which no doubt will mean that i get charged interest on my credit card
but stupid pointless rant over!!

i'm actually in a really good mood at the mo, had a great day at work, and have only got 7 hours of work between me and a day off! and i found out today that i should be getting my proper cell phone back within "1-3 days" yay!!

Sorry about the boots, that's a pain. They won't just do an exchange and give you a different size? I guess because they're custom made they won't? I didn't know you had to customize them to get them in black. I've seen them sold here in red so why is black considered "customized?" What a weird company lol.

i think you can get black ones, but they've got black and white soles and the embroidery is in a different color, and disney say you have to have plain black, no other colors, so i've had to custom order them. so i wont be able to get a replacement pair without them having to specially make me another pair....... bit of a pain but i'd better get them sorted now while i still can. i mean i paid more than i probably should have paid for them (£125, about $200) so i want to get a pair that actually fit!

about my phone.
i got a nice new touch screen lg renoir in july (well technically gary got it, as i'd got the phone he wanted, and he got the one i wanted and we swapped), love that phone, its great. well in a really stupid move, about a month or so before we went on holiday i forgot to check my pants pockets before putting the washing machine on and my phone went in with it. i did notice though, and it was only on about 2 minutes before i stopped it and got it out. i left it to dry for ages and it seemed to work, but the battery had lost charge so i left it plugged in overnight to charge up. i'm not sure what happened but i think it somehow fried the board for the touchscreen because next day the screen didnt work. it still turned on but you couldnt do anything with the screen.
we've sent it to the insurers to be repaired, but we had to send in the claim first, they had to approve it, then send us a letter saying they in theory accept the claim, we've had to send the handset back to them after they've agreed it, then they try to fix it.
apparently they cant fix it (i didnt think they'd be able to really though, as i think i fried the boards inside!) so they're sending me a new handset out. it should take "1-3 days" so with any luck it'll turn up on friday, otherwise i'll have to wait til next week

I remember the phone in the washing machine story but I didn't think it was taking so long to get fixed! At least they're sending you a brand new one. Just remember to take it out of your pocket next time you do the wash. I always have mine in my bag and when it rings, I can't find it!

I just bought my sister tickets to see Daughtry in a couple weeks. It's an early birthday present (her bday is 12/8). I made the mistake of opening my mouth that Jordan Knight was going to be in NYC on Saturday and now she wants to go to that too.

yeah i cant wait to get the phone back, if would have been fixed sooner but there was a slight problem which meant that we couldnt send it back to be fixed til after we got back from orlando...... :


hows work going? my boss is upstairs with the MD at the mo so i've got nothing to do

yeah thats always cool! i've just got home, was at the theme park today, but its closed during the week at the mo, so spent the whole day typing up labels and sticking them on envelopes ready for the huge mail out of christmas cards the company does every year.
but day off now!!!

i'm back to 5 day weeks now that i've started back at the park (and the theme park pays weekly which is a huge help as disney only pay monthly) so still getting used to being back into working full time at the mo. i'm permanently tired!
but gary's away in paris on business at the mo, so i'm planning on trying to get an earlyish night. was supposed to be going shopping with mum and dad tomorrow for the day but i think i'm going to pass, i've got a few things i need to do and i fancy a quiet lazy day too.

on saturday i'm going to try and get into work a bit early as i need to buy a few things from the shop. i'm doing the disboards uk community board secret santa again this year so i need to buy something for that

Disney pays monthly?? I've never heard of a company doing that. It's usually bi-weekly.

Gary's in Paris? Ooh la la. Ha, I guess since you guys are much closer it's not a big deal to travel there on business, but it'd be huge here. I actually have no desire to go to France though.

DIS has secret santa? Why am I surprised, it seems like you can do anything on here!

Hey everyone! Since I am just sitting around, I decided to come one here. I've been sick since yesterday morning, so this turned into an unusually long weekend. I have a fever and achey, and today a cough...but it seems to be getting better, so i'm crossing my fingers that it does. I have two concerts this weekend, so no time for sickness.

I think we might try and book the MV on the Dream. None of the benefits from the on board booking transfer to that cruise, but it would still be super cool!! So, that would mean no Alaska...but i'm okay with that if I get to do the MV!!

Work was insane last week, all of our reports were due, so I was working about 60 hours, and home at like 10 every night...so no time for the dis. Plus, I've had jazz band the last 2 weeks on Fridays...it's just been busy.

I'll try and come back on some time tomorrow to see how everyone is!! Talk to you later!!
