I agree with you...this $600 per person for a cruise that is almost 2 years out is plain crazy...and as hyped up as we were about doing this cruise, if that is the case we are likely going to have to bow out :sad1:...we leave on the Magic on 10/10 so we just don't have an extra $1200 sitting around (to go from the $300pp to $600pp).

But I did have a thought. Couldn't I call and book just myself and my DH in a room and add the kids on later? Or would that totally mess things up??

You can do that - it would only mess you up if they ship was sold to capacity...meaning, there is a limit on the ship. We learned the hard way that just because our cabin holds 4 people doesn't mean we can have 4 people. We had my DH, DD and myself for a cruise once and went to add my sister. We were told the ship was sold out and I got a lesson in how many people vs how many berths.

I'm not saying this is going to happen...just an FYI.

A friend just called to get pricing for my family of 4 - 2 adults, 2 kids ages 13 and 11. Here is the info (no insurance, no transportation) -

Cat 6 is full
Cat 7 full
9c 6,348.52
9a 6,728.52
9b 6,388.52

5c 8,228.52
5a 8728.52

10c 5,328.52
10b 5,568.52
10a 5,528.52

After 9/21 it will be $600.00 per person for deposit.

See now THAT really irks me. That is just plain WRONG on so many levels to only allow it for the gold & platinum members. As a silver CC member if I cannot transfer my existing ressie with its 1/2 deposit on the 28th and keep the 1/2 deposit I will NOT book one of their stoopid specialty cruises on either of these old rust buckets!!! I don't have a problem paying the difference between the 1/2 amt. we've already paid and the new 1/2 amt. but WHY should I give them a LOAN THAT BIG for just almost 2 years and for WHAT in return? A stressful week of waiting & hoping that they still have the cabin I want at a price I can afford? Nope. Not gonna happen for me. It is looking less & less like I will be adding a new ticker to my siggie any time soon!

If your friend was looking to book for 4 people they would not have had the option of booking a cat. 7 since they only hold 3 people. I'm not sure, but could it be that the newly classified cat. 6's only hold 3 people as well? If that's the case that's the reason they are not showing for her to book.

It could be that next week the half off booking will be back for online bookings, we just don't know for sure. Everyone will have to wait and see what happens on 9/28.

Platinum members for Alaska cruise get a $350 OBC.
Gold member for Alaska cruise get a $275 OBC

Is this an OBC for transferring a booking that was already made onboard or is it an OBC for all gold/platinum members?

I found my answer on page 28. Sorry to re-post a question that has already been answered.

<snip>

But I did have a thought. Couldn't I call and book just myself and my DH in a room and add the kids on later? Or would that totally mess things up??

The problem with doing that is that when you go to add the other people (if there is room), they will charge you the price for THAT day, not the price when you booked yourself and DH.

She was told that cat 6 was SOLD OUT - at least rooms for 4. When she called back later, she was told that cat 6 was on guarantee status holding 2 people only.

Which rooms are "newly classified" 6's? Sorry - brain is dead at this point!
For us it is $3500 deposit for 5 people. :scared1::eek:
$600 x 5 = $3,000 You just saved $500!! :rotfl:

OK - still a lot of money!

It's the 1 given by Dreams Unlimited.

I don't think so (look back a few posts). People are referring to this credit as the Onboard booking credit given by Disney. Silver gets the standard OBC, gold and plat get extra.

I haven't seen anything posted on the Dreams website yet regarding Alaska onboard credits.

Good night! Brain is mush!

Jodie

Correct, DU hasn't announced any Stateroom credits for the 2011 sailings yet, at least on their website. I still can't see if I am keeping my OBC from my transferred OBed cruise.

So, this may be a dumb question, but are there any sailings to the Bahamas in 2011? We were thinking of making a change from the Caribbean and were looking perhaps into a 5 night Bahamas combined with a trip WDW, but I don't see any listed for 2011. We don't have the time for a longer than 7 day cruise and I don't think dd would be ready for a trip to Alaska at her age - she is all about swimming.

Those will probably be on the Dream which will have another announcement at 4:15 on 10/29/09.

Mid August Alaskan

3A (my son will be an adult! OMG!) 4 kids, 17,16,13,6

$19,852. No insurance, not sure about transfers, but I assume no as this is our regular agent and she knows we never get transfers.

She is the BEST!

Oh, and per the website, only 694 days until we set sail! That's it? Well, I am getting a good start on paying for it with my oh so inexpensive $5600 deposit due tomorrow...

Did you just take my Aug 16th cat 1??? Apparently it was the only cat 1 or 2 available this afternoon and the date was perfect for us except we are still a cruise away from gold!

But the good news is tonight our past cruises now show PC 15 day which I understand is probably some code that we are in IC's system, so I wait until Monday to find out I guess. Still holding out hope. We left our dates open from June 6th to Aug 23rd.

What date, please?

I am actually a little relieved at the price - it is not much different than our recent Western - still outrageous and I have a hard time accepting it, but DH doesn't. Hopefully ours will be a little better. We are 2A, 5K 12, 11, 9, 7, and 4.

Happy cruising

I'm afraid I did...oh no! If it makes you feel better, my daughter will turn 13 ON the cruise and we will be having 2 teens head off to college, so it will be a very special cruise for us. I did have only August on my request list and this was my first choice, so hopefully there are more out there for you.

Come to think of it my son would be turning 13 on that cruise too - Aug 20th! Well, there are two cat 1's - who knows. I'm just happy that we appear to be in IC's system now, and if it doesn't work out for 2011, there's always 2012 - I hope. I believe that things always work out for the best.

My daughter's is 8/19, funny! Maybe you will get the Walt! That would be awesome! My TA did say there were others, just not in August. Good luck!!
