8 kids 2 parents, what size room??

I'm having a dilemma. We have 8 kids that will be 16-7 on our trip in May. We will be gone 3 weeks and I'm trying to decide if it's better to stay off property so we can all stay together. Last time we went we rented a 2 bedroom and a studio to be legal but I hated having my husband go to a different room each night. For legal purposes Disney said there had to be someone 18 in the room. We don't have enough points for the grandvilla. So would you split up or try to stay off property and if so where? We are going May 13-Jun 3rd. Cruising May 17-24.

We have a reservation at OKW in a 2 bedroom before our cruise so far and are planning to stay AKV with some other points we have. Looking at our options right now.

How about spends SOME of the nights off site, maybe renting a vacation home or offsite condo, then moving into a OKW GV about the middle of the trip? Maybe Bonnet Creek?

Since you only have one over the listed number for many 2 bedrooms can you just make a 2 bedroom work? I've wondered if Disney would allow that. 3 smaller, younger kids could fit in a Queen bed.

A 2 Bedroom Lockoff at VGF sleeps 10.

The dedicated 2BR only sleeps nine but because the studios sleep 5 the lockoffs have an occupancy for 10. But the points for that is not necessarily cheap. Ok - just checked and an OKW GV is only a point or two more than the standard view VGF.

It is very late for planning a DVC vacation in may, but if looks like most days of your second part is available in an OKW GV which is very reasonable points. SSR GV AKV standard and SV are usually available also but they are more points.

You only live once, splurge and transfer or rent points and do a SV Kidani GV for the first part and OKW GV for the second part

I'd likely do an AKV Kidani standard view 2 BR dedicated unit. You'll get 2 queen beds plus the 2 pullouts and 3 baths. Off site is OK also but getting a 3 BR can be difficult regardless. For off site I'd say Marriott's Grande Vista, Wyndham's bonnet creek or one of the Hilton's are good timeshare options with 3 BR. There are a number of others than are good to very good that also have 3 BR in RCI and II. Bonnet Creek and Silver Lake are likely the closest ones that come to mind. You could look for a private rental. Of course a Condo is also a good option.

Since her family is over the allowed max number of persons for a 2 bedroom (since no one is under 3), how will she get magic bands for everyone? Disney won't let her book 10 in a 2 bedroom if it only sleeps 9. If one person doesn't get a magic band, it's likely that my May, all of the regular FP- machines will be gone and one person in her family won't have a magic band or access to EMH or FP+

Thanks, didn't realize no one is under 3 until after I sent it and had to run out. However, DVC may allow them to have 10 in this situation, they would always ask. Personally I wished they'd stick to the strict occupancy without the extra under 3 but I realize that's not likely.

It doesn't matter if all eight of the kids can sleep in one queen sized bed. They have ten people, all over the age of three, and need a grand villa.

One adult must be in each of the two villas (two bedroom and studio) every night.

This would still leave you split up but for the least points - 2 studios at VGF. The fact they sleep 5 does change things a bit for large families. But getting 2 VGF studios for May could be difficult. Perhaps you could do that for some time onsite and then also book something off site where you're all together.

We decided to switch to AKV and we have a 2 bedroom and studio. We will just make it work. Thanks everyone. Now I hope club Intrawest opens up soon so we can get our rooms after the cruise. Otherwise we will look for an off property option and rent 2 cars, it's usually cheaper then a full size van. With our AP's we will get free parking at the parks so it should work out fine.

Boy, what lucky kids, to have lots of siblings and still be able to afford WDW trips from the West Coast and cruises.
