8 & 9's vs 10-12's in lab

Had a talk with our dd9 over dinner tonight and discussed which group would be best for her on our 4 day in Sept. She will be 3 weeks shy of 10 yrs old and can participate in one or the other.

The last time we cruised she did really enjoy the club and we're hoping that she will enjoy the lab as well.(not because we want to dump her but because we want her to have fun!)

Can anyone contrast or compare the activities in these groups? I have heard that the 10-12's don't have as many good activities as the 8-9's. Is this true? Is one group more fun/entertaining/organized than the other?

I can't find the 8-9's 4 day navigator. I went to Dave's site and Barb's site. I know it's out there...can somebody point me in the right direction?

I know the whole sign in/out debate has already been hashed over again and again, so let's leave that part out of this. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that if we put her in the 10-12's she will be able to sign herself out and have come up with several ways for us to handle that.

I am nine years old,and I am using my mom's username. I have been in the 8-9 group and 10-12 group.


Yes, I heard that the 8-9's is funer. But if he/she is mature I would suggest putting he/she in the 10-12's. They go to the common grounds, which I think is pretty neat.

If you think your child is too young for that,you could put him/her in the 8-9 group. It is much funer,and they do fun stuff.

Take the pros and cons I just gave you and you decide.

Sorry I dont have an answer. DS will be 10.5 when we cruise in Nov.
I was just wondering what kind of fun stuff the 8-9s get to do that the 10-12s dont. Would it be more character related for the younger ones? DS is NOT into the characters at all so if that is a big difference it may be a good thing he is in the older group. Also DSs best friend is 13 so he is used to being with the older kids.

The only thing I can add is that, from what I've read, the 8-10 is a bit more structured and the 10-12 has more free time. I saw the Navigators for the older group and it looked like my DS would have fun with that, plus being able to go out onto the sports deck and into the Arcade.

It's probably more of an issue on the 7 day cruises with being on the ship more.

We only have one day at sea, so I'm sure that my DS will find plenty to do.

About the signing out thing....I understood that you could have anyone 12 and under required to be signed out by a parent. I thought you only lost the option when they joined the teen group at 13. Anyone??????

That's the way it was on our first cruise in January of 2001, but on our November 2001 cruise all the 10-12's had sign in/out priviledges. We were not given a choice. We were given a pager though and told my dd to have them page me when she was going to leave. I met her outside the Lab. Nasi
