$8.40+$4.11=$12.51

"I have one unrelated question: While I like the site, why is Zurg advertising a web site on these boards?"

The DIS TOS allow him to provide a link because his website is not a business and he offers a link back to the DIS on his main page.

I wish I had $12.51 for every time nuthut has started a thread on this topic. I'd be one rich DVCer by now! (Well, maybe not rich. But, I'd at least be able to treat everyone posting on this thread to lunch.) ;)

We all have different reasons for joining DVC. I joined because I wanted to take great vacations. So far, I haven't been disappointed. It seems nuthut joined for other reasons. Let him ask for whatever he wants. There are enough people like me, ripleysmom and rich that aren't trying to make a buck off of fellow DVCer's.

I am proud to call gail, Rich, Ripleysmom, and dlr25 my DVC family.
As for nuthut, the name fits. Out in West texas where I am from people have a saying, "the cream always rises to the top."
People trying to exploit a good thing will be exposed. People trying to protect what is right will be rewarded.
I bought DVC because I wanted time with family and friends like I couldn't find anywhere else. I have, and am, finding it. So are they.
If I could help someone with points I could not use, they certainly would not be sold for $12.50 and most likely not even $9-10. I look out for my "family" and think the family would do the same.
That is how I was raised and those are principles I hold dear.

Combine that with his Alamo rants and we could treat the entire board to lunch.

Thank you for the kind words. I feel the same and it is how I was raised and how I raised my own children.

Because he can :)

I was once driving with a minister. When he was stopped for speeding the officer asked him why he was speeding. His answer was, "Because I thought I could get away with it."

Members renting for cash get a discount, I believe it is 25%.

This is not always the case. In the good old days, we counted on this discount to extend our says at OKW by paying cash for the weekends. The one and only time that we stayed at HH DVC for two nights on a cash ressie, we paid rack rate for the room. Of course, it was in July and rooms were very hard to come by. Perhaps we didn't get the discount because we don't own at HH. And perhaps the 25% member discount is hit or miss.

Ahem! Hardly the same thing though is it? What the Minister was doing was illegal - he just thought/hoped he wouldn't get caught.

The point I was making is that the DIS Terms of Service allows anyone to link to their website as long as it's meets the conditions. Zurg's does - therefore 'he can' :)

Mine however **removed** is a business site and completely inapropriate.

Badshoe is a funny site very Disney related. I like it and Disney links are always allowed.

I wonder when the last 25% cash discount was had? It may have been recently with the light occupancy rates. Anyone have one recently?

Actually though, I have been re-thinking renting points. Mostly due to some of Dean's points. I think the flavor of families only, no renting, was falsly put fourth when the buyer was a family looking for their own vacations, but some of Dean's points about Disney using the language against renting seems strong, it may very well be there just to relieve them of responsibility to people buying soley for renting.

they wanted to make sure that they were never beholden to created competition...make certian no one could ever sue them for lowering the value of their property by competing to hard on price.

This new realization has not made me loathe the slimey point renters any less.

edited to remove commercial links

While I like the site, why is Zurg advertising a web site on these boards?

I think I can, therefor I am. LOL

Actually I bribed Alex with a limmited edition BadShoe.com pin and a few drinks at DIS Con. I thought about posting a pivture of his shoes but they weren't too bad.

I think Alex had a few beers bought for him and that is how it should be, now if that gets the beer buyers access to the man well it is only following the standards set by our illustrious congress.

As for renting points. We have rented points when we needed more or for friends who were going down the same time we were. Funny as a renter I always try to get the LOWEST price possible. Does that make me a bad DVC'r?

Heck, I'm not sure I'd call someone "slimy" for renting. I've been guilty as charged. When I broke my leg before a trip 2 years ago, I was really glad we could rent the ressie out and at least recoup something.

If I'd known we could rent DVC points on our first trip to BWV, I'd have been grateful. We paid rack rate for a week as I didn't know any better (sheesh!!).

I may have to rent again as we arranged a reservation for family in April, they backed out. I arranged and re arranged points to use them (i had borrowed points to get what they needed). Even took an extra trip. (It hurt, but somebody had to do it). Now it looks like family is backing out another trip. Fairly sure I'm going to have to offer a rental, or just kiss the points goodbye.

That being said, it does look like at least a couple of people on the boards rent out as an ongoing concern. I've not wanted to judge them, but it does concern me that Disney may get their back up about it, ban the practice altogether, and ruin it for those of us that need to occasionally rent because of circumstance.

Zurg, that site is hilarious! Just wait until the foot fetish guys find out.

Your misfortune is miles away from what this is about.

Not sure I would call them "slimy", but, I am not really impressed with the practice.

I literally have no idea, I just know it has been mentioned a number of times, and given that and the fact that there seems to be a discount for every occassion, I felt the reworking of the numbers would be appropriate.

As to your website, it is very cute and actually quite well done.
I just wonder when you are going to have some customer feedback on it.

Agreed. Interesting that nuthut drops in and starts this thread. I'm OK with teh occasional renter, recouping a vacation because of some unplanned or temporary situation.

Gail, maybe I misinterpret your intent in making that comment, but I disagree with it... I view the ability to rent as something I don't actually plan to use, but nice to have "just in case". In most cases I expect it can be a win/win situation. So I think her misfortune is right on target as a very valid reason to rent out points, as opposed to someone trying to capitalize on their DVC investment for pure profit.

If I ever found myself in a position such as mikesmom, I'd be glad to be recouping some of my points' value, and I would not feel at all slimy.

How many times have active posters on this board advised someone to rent points and try out a DVC resort before buying? The rentals have to come from somewhere.

I don't agree with the OP's philosophy either, but I honestly don't understand the tendency to condemn people who rent out their points occasionally.

I would sincerely like to understand what about this bothers people so much???

I didn't see anyone dissing occasional renters. I don't see that anywhere.

Its the business, its securing prime ressies and renting them out on Ebay as Nuthut is very proud of doing. Its buying points to only use weekdays for renting because you can make more money.

These things done regularly and as a business really do hurt members in many ways.
