My personal opinion is that individuals who rent points for profit over a 5 year period more often than they actually use the points themselves constitutes "commercial use". However, I agree that the DVC board will not be pushed to address it at its current levels. I also feel that some of the current e-bay, prime holiday period for-profit rental practices discussed above are detrimental to current DVC members and it is not in members best interest for them to expand and become more wide-spread. Members have the use of this forum to express thier concern over these detrimental practices, and should do so if that's how they feel.

I'm also in dissagreement with this forum being repeatedly used to attempt to boost prices or fix prices for those conducting these types of detrimental e-bay rental practices. I fully support and am very appreciative of the rent/trade board provided by this site and the level of friendliness and working things out to both parties mutual benefit the site has achieved.

I know I am not as smart as you guys, especially Dean, so I am sure I am mis-construeing this part:

"Commercial purpose" includes a pattern of rental activity

Could you please explain how a pattern of rental activity does not fit the definition of "Commercial purpose" when it is expressly defined as such?

First, you should just read the rest of the quote you conveniently truncated, as it continues the definition and explains just what you're asking. If you still don't understand, then write to the DVC Board of Directors, as per the definition, they are the only ones who can make any decision about "Commercial purpose".
I guess you could also further truncate the quote and just use "Commercial purpose" includes a pattern" and then anyone who sews would be included.


As for: "I'm also in dissagreement with this forum being repeatedly used to attempt to boost prices or fix prices for those conducting these types of detrimental e-bay rental practices.", this forum has been used just as much if not more by those suggesting that prices should be in the $5-6 range. The use of this board for such discussion works both ways and both discussions are valid.

If anyone truly disagrees with how the forum is used, please feel free to report the questionable posts using the "Report This Post to a Moderator" feature and state why the post violates our site guidelines.

Of course, it's your call Doc. If your OK with the original poster's approach, then it's appropriate for this forum. Besides, I'm bias, I do not regularly rent out timeshares or DVC points using ebay or any other method. I just use DVC for family vacations, many times at holiday seasons.

It's not MY call at all- it's entirely governed by the DIS site guidelines. If you can demonstrate where this thread violates those guidelines, I'll be happy to remove it. If you can show where it has been found to violate DVC rules or is illegal, I'll be happy to remove it.

As for this forum, the opinons of those who do rent out their points is just as valid as those of us who don't.

Agreed.

But as a non-semi regular renter, I do have my bias against what I see as detrimental rental practices (as discussed above), and see those opinions as being just as valid as those posted by those in the semi-regular DVC rental business, and see this forum as an appropriate place to share those opinions within the guidelines.
