Today is my busy day of the week and it is my youngest DD's (Dina) birthday to boot! My baby is 4!! She is still insisting she is 3 until we surprise her.:confused3

Unfortunately, we still get spiders too....black widows and tarantulas...
That creature is a javelina and he's eating a cactus just off our back patio.

Nice to see some brave people on the boards. I am not one of them. In no way shape or form could I even handle seeing a black widow or tarantula.

Well...

... I think the fire has sort of burned out in my end of the effected area. The Pixie-dust must be working! However, maybe the wind has shifted and now there is a huge smell of smoke as opposed to earlier this evening. So who knows...? At any rate I took a photo I shot and posted earlier and hand sketched the outline of our home against the darkness depicted so you can tell how close the fire seemed to be. I think that if the fire seperated from us by one cul-de-sac of homes - well then we were not in nearly the same danger as the neighbors over there were. Plus the point of the fire where I drove up to within 30-35 yards - those houses were really close to the fire!!!! An obvious threat with the helicopters dropping their loads effectively 10 yards or so away from their property. So I guess you could say THOSE folks were about 10-12x closer to the flames than we were!
Sending more PD your way.:wizard: :wizard:

Yes, thats "RIVER" he is a bearded collie just like they used in the Shaggy Dog in fact he is related to some of the ones they used. I have actually had him since before the movie. They look like sheepdog but smaller. He is about 45 lbs. He is awesome and he is the ultimate family pet. He loves the water and has a real comedic personality.

Cute dog !paw:

I missed all the drama. Crash I'm glad all is safe for now. I know how crazy those Santa Ana's can get.

Not safe to blink an eye around here. ;)

Ok, that is Celcius! :rolleyes1 Makes it a little better.:rotfl:

OK, time to get back to the meters!!!

Andy, my deepest sympathy for Hazel.

Crash, glad you and yours are ok.

Hopefully this will be a good day for all.I'm waiting for the sun to shine thru. It is soooo cold at work when it's overcast. They keep the building so cold. It is very comical to walk thru and see people covered with blankets in Fl. You would think we were up north!!
Too bad, you can't open windows anymore in office bldgs. That would be nice.

Hey i resemble that!!!:cold: and i am up north...

I am always one of the coldest on my floor and i do keep a blanket at work...The girl next to me is always hot and keeps her fan running.

They allow fans but no heaters...

Go figure......

The company even gives out things like jackets and blankets. The same here with the heaters. If you can find one that is battery operated good luck.
It's the feet. When they get cold forget it. I have slippers i occasionally put on. It is really sad when you think of how uncomfortable lots of us are in the workplace. I don't know about you, but I put in 4x10 and the last few hours are the killer ones. That's when the a/c starts pumping. So I always have a pair of socks in my desk and bring a jacket everyday. The plus side is I sit at the window and occasionally get to catch a sunset.:surfweb:

I'm sorry the hot flashes are gone:rotfl:

I got another 10 yrs to wait for that arlene......

I've worked in building that were so bad/cold i wear gloves at work...

It makes it hard to dress for the seasons either because it seems i need sweaters year-round.

May I share that my sister in law has had terrible migranes - and she's tried all sorts of remedies and theraphies (misspelled?)... and supposedly one of the homeopathic approaches says to do away with all aspertain (again, misspelled?) as some studies suggested some who sufferred from migranes used a lot of the stuff. And my SIL does in fact use a lot of aspertaine.

If you're one of those - try weening yourself of it for a few weeks to cleanse your system of it - and maybe your migranes will clear up?

AND note... I am not biased here ... and am encouraging you to try weening and/or read the studies on it. SOme studies refute my assertions while others support it. Either way who cares what any study says IF your migranes subside with elimenating aspertaine?

Here are a couple links to stidies:

Andy and Hazel: so very sorry for your loss.

Capt.Crash: that fire looked VERY scary. It is also somewhat ironic that while that fire was burning, Valencia was being blown to bits on "24". (Am I the only one who watches it?) I have a daughter that lives in Valencia (Cal Arts student) and she is freaked by the frequent brush fires in the area. I think that's fairly close to Thousand Oaks, right?

Ok, considering that I am trying to tread water in this group of DIS Board legends, I need a little advice for a newbie--

How do you all keep track of where the discussion was when you left? :confused3

I think I read somewhere about someone maybe bookmarking the page and coming back to it. When I come back I usually just drop back five pages and start reading from there, but at the pace this thread is moving I don't think I have ever gone back over posts I have already seen!!!

This thread has surpassed 1400 posts and reservations are not even open yet. We should start a pool on just how many posts hit this thread on January 31st!!! If just everyone who has posted here once drops in to comment on what happened with reservations it could be a pretty big number--and there are many whom I am guessing could have over 10 posts to this thread just on the 31st.

I will have to think about my number a little bit and as we get closer maybe bring this up again. Just think, if everyone who joined in the pool agreed to buy a drink for the winner, given the number of DIS board members looking to get on this repo, the winner could walk around the entire 15 days with a drink in their hand and still have a relatively modest tab on the way out!! (Guess I am dream about lounging pool-side or on CC with drink in hand--cold and snow covered here today.)

And, hopefully to not get myself in trouble with the DIS board moderators, any drink would not necessarily have to contain alcohol and would not for any participant below the age of 21. No purchase is necessary to participate. Agreeing to participate does not obligate the participant to buy a drink for the winner; it is only a suggestion. The game is intended for the amusement of participants only and should not be considered the endorsement of gambling or games of chance. And, any of that other small print that you see attached to the these types of things is herein and hereby incorporated by reference as if fully stated in its entirety.

(I may not make a great pirate, but could act as the pirate equivalent of consigliere--never know if Captain Jack or the crew will need to get out of the brig!!)

Okay if Lisa and Susan do not come home today we need to send search parties. ------Did someone say PARTY??????   Its been a long time. Were we offensive -----no she's a mod she would have shut us down. Do we stink-----pirates always stink, don't they? What could it possibly be? Maybe they are under the triple secret double whammy oath not to disclose any DCL details until announcement.:lmao: :lmao:
