I am the totally boring bookkeeper/owner of an ornamental iron business. He gets to do all the creative work.....I handle the numbers. And I am a landlady. Not very many "usable" skills, sorry!

Thats more than I can say!
OK well lets hope none of my skills come in handy.

Hmm....sports medicine degree, but I am a project manager for a telecommunications company....go figure...:confused3

Speaking of landlady duties....have to sign off and type an eviction notice.

I totally understand Lisa stepping away. I haven't gotten much done since the "announcement" was made!!
I may have to back off a little, too...........

Hey....found a gaggle of lawyers!

Is that what more than one lawyer is called ----- (I better not touch that one):rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No you can't leave us we will be sad :sad1: :sad1: :sad1: Besides you just got Sharon on here. How about cutting back like maybe to 20 posts:lmao:

I admit I have baskets of laundry to fold, but this is way more fun!!!!!!

Eviction notice?????? See I would not like that part of it! :scared1:

Anyone else hopeful they will get a room on this cruise?

"You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension. A dimension of sound. A dimension of sight. A dimension of mind. You're moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You've just crossed over into...The Pirate Zone. Los Angeles, 2005. Amid the glitz and the glitter of a bustling, cruise port at the height of its golden age, The Disney Magic was a star in its own right; a beacon for the DIS elite. Now, something is about to happen that will change all that. The time is now on an evening very much like the one we have just witnessed. Tonight's story on The Pirate Zone is somewhat unique and calls for a different kind of introduction. This, as you may recognize, is a Disney Cruise ship still in operation, waiting for you. We invite you, if you dare, to step aboard because in tonight's episode, you are the star. And this ship travels directly to...The Pirate Zone."

"You are the passengers on a most uncommon cruise ship about to sail into your very own episode of...The Pirate Zone. One stormy night long ago, 57 DIS families stepped onto a gangway and into a nightmare. That gangway is opening once again, and this time it's opening for you. You are about to discover what lies beyond the fifth dimension...beyond the deepest, darkest corner of the imagination...in the Disney Magic.”

“A friendly word of warning; something you won't find in any guidebook. The next time you check into a cruise ship on the dark side of Los Angeles, make sure you know just what kind of vacancy you're filling. Or you may find yourself a permanent resident of...The Pirate Zone”

I enjoyed this post. Quite creative!!:thumbsup2

I am considering to try to get reservations:cloud9: but will have to see when I get through and the price.:rolleyes1

I have been lurking and it does seem like a fun board. I will just sit by til I know something definite.

Okay so we now have a known TA---Ivanova (Susan),
a lawyer or the likes in CBJHockeyNut,
either a mathmatician or a research scientist in Crash (sorry I shortened the name there but it sounds cool and its easy to write.),
an ex DJ who now has turned pirate----Disney Vegas1,
a website designer----BuddyBear.
Who else????? What other bases do we have covered?

Public Affairs Director for a large medical group here. It's not nearly as exciting as it sounds, but the health benefits are great!

Wow, it took me awhile to get caught up this morning. I'm supposed to be preparing for a conference call, but reading all of the posts here is much more interesting.

Crash, I see in the Star that the fire is expected to be controlled by this evening. What a relief. I am glad you are all OK, but what an exciting night for you!

Well, off to my conference call. I'm sure I'll have lots of catching up to do later!

Stay-at-home-Mom (SAHM) here! In the meantime I am finishing up a thesis (at least that's what I should be doing) for a bachelor's degree in early ed. but I also decided teaching wasn't for me. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up & I just turned 43! I do know that I want a lot of vacation time & my summers off to go on Disney vacations so being a SAHM is great, but I'm not sure I can continue to get away with it much longer since they are going into high school & middle school after next year! Shhhhh! ;)

or

I love all your pictures, by the way. It's so beautiful there. I can't wait to at least see some of it when DCL finally takes me there!!!

THANKS!

I knew someone would come through!

Current topic: I'm a non-profit exec. It isn't glamorous, but I get paid to do what many people choose to spend their volunteer time doing. Marketing/PR is my thing, but I do it all in my current job.

It's funny, my major was early ed/special ed.....and once I actually got into it, I didn't want to do it any more. My Dad was not happy about paying for it all, just so that I could turn to accounting and bookkeeping. But looking back, if I'd majored in business, I would have fallen asleep in class!

Hey, I resemble that remark--but, thankfully, have a little more hair. Started out "life" as a Certified Public Accountant and then went back to school and got my law degree. I now spend my days as a practicing attorney (still trying to figure it out!! ) and an evening or two a week as an adjunct professor at the local law school or guest lecturing at occasional seminars. ($$$ for Disney Cruises.)

Thanks for all the advice on how to find to new posts when I come back to the thread. In all the time I have spent lurking on this board I have never paid attention to the link at the top for View First Unread. Thanks again.

I just noticed this was my 3,000th DIS posting!

Crash,

Just finished reading the morning paper and what did I see when I opened it up, the picture you posted overnight.

Our prayers and thoughts continue to go out to all concerned in your area.

Gotta get out the door for work.

Later

Frankly...

... I'm mildly amazed that our fire here in Westlake Village/Thousand Oaks made your newspaper (color photo no less) in FLorida! TO the best of my knowledge there were no homes damaged, people hurt or lost... so what gives? Was it THAT quiet coast to coast last nite?

At any rate - here is a link to the latest news report on the Fire - the written verbage is no different to yesterdays' verbage - however, what is new is a 2 minute morning video clip showing what it was really like in the area. Check it out!

Oh yeah... today the air is crisp, cold but clean. Ash is light where we live but one of my daugheters' schools has a bit of a dusting of ash.

I guess Andy is the one that should probably be fielding this one, but I don't think he will mind.

His mom has a place in FL, but his family is in south Jersey near the Philly area so if I had to venture a guess I would say he was referring to the Trenton Times or the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Wow! I knew I should of called my friend on the cell phone last night instead of the house phone! You guys went way past the page number on my sticky!:rotfl:

Glad to see that Capt Crash is safe. Andy & Hazel sorroy for your loss. I hope that DisneyVegas1's headache is gone.

Also DisneyVegas1 thanks for mentioning the other airports in CA. It's been 19 years since I've been to CA and my Mom and I flew into LAX. It was a trip, we had to walk for miles to baggage. Than we rented a car and drove up to Lompoc to vist her bf and former roommate. We also picked up another friend in Pasadena. I'm doing all the driving. (Don't have a clue except a map!) I wanted to see the Hollywood sign and somehow we ended up at a Mickey D's in Burbank! My mom had lived in LA back in the 50's and as we are driving around she kept saying," Gosh, I don't remember these mountains being here!" No, Ma they brought them in just for today!

I never did get to go to Disneyland.:sad2:

Oh, ladies they aren't hot flashes, they are private vacations in the tropics! Not that I would know...I'm still too young for AARP membership!

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

That was too funny!!:lmao:

I guess after the 31st we should put together a dining list so we know who has what dining. We, for better or worse, are not late night folks.

We normally choose early dining and rarely stay up past 11:00 PM on any night except for the midnight dessert buffet. ;)

Hey Crash--actually is was a black and white photo in our local paper, and I live in New Jersey (for the time being). We do own a vacation home in Florida though. The photo I added to my post was copied and pasted from your post, it was an AP photo.

Actually, it was the Gloucester County Times, a very local newspaper.

Actually ... I'm not a research scientist - but in a manner of speaking I do deal with numbers... I'm am a Wholesaler in Financial Services ... otherwise known as an Independent Marketing Organization - IMO - for insurance distribution between the company and brokers, agents and mid size agencies - been so for 18 years - and my D.S. is a Pharmaceutical Oncology Representative specializing in (in descending significance) Breast, Lung then Prostate. She's been a drug dealer for about 19 years. And in the last few years I've slowed down considerably with the arrival of our children and changes in the business environment. In the days post 9-11 I was still flying on my 60% pace for being away from home and it was starkly obvious that after the WTC incident NO ONE WAS TRAVELING. Obviously, my competition was staying home - so with the new daughter I decided I would reorganize to work from home. Now I have a shift in priorities and a new routine. It is less effective - but we have undergone paradigm shifts where family (meaning children, parents and the family centered things) as well as individual wellness and health have risen to new levels of emphasis.

So - I am effectivly a part-time owner/operator of an IMO dealing with Insurance products to the trade.... and otherwise a SAHD... and a Soccor Dad, and a Karate Dad, and a Swim Team Dad, and a Gymnastics Dad, some-times Family Travel Agent (uncompensated - unless you consider the brief scoldings to be pay<back>)and a chauffeur for my dear spouse from time to time. Oh yeah ... I do dishes and cook... but am a bum with a vaccume cleaner and one to fear with laundry. My spouse will not let me near her laundry after that unfortunate incident where I mixed all the clothes together to create a nice uniform tye dye effect WITH those cute little specks of detergent all over everything. I don't get it. :confused3 So - I'm basically a glorified taxi driver and we sort of share bacon runs to the market.

So - remember - you supply the quarters and I'll volunteer to do your laundry on the Magic - just you'll have to sign the "hold harmless" waiver first... <chuckles>! See what a nice guy I am?

Aside from that... I might add that my SPOUSE is indeed capable of being the official family mathamatician! As she used to be that despised student in all your science and math classes who threw the curves. Yup.... when honest, hard working chums like myself and possibly yourself were sweating to get 20s or 22s in organic chemistry or higher order math exams - my sweet spouse was scoring 95-99%. She was on her high school "Math-alete" team... and always got better grades then me in school. You see - we've been together 22+ years (which will set us up for my question proposal below in RED)... and we've been best of pals since our school days .... and nope... not PRE-school... rather college. She was my only "serious" girl-friend in college. I keep trying to tell her that all the others were just "friends". All I get from her are glares and that sticky silence when I say things like that? :confused3

So - for those who are so inclined...

... assuming a significant other is in the equation... how did you meet? Any stories to embelish? A significant other can also be a favorite pet or major all enveloping hobby or pursuit too. Use your imagination and exercise responses on one or all of these things with what seems like the most fun to you - I'll throw mine in after I've caught up some on the over nite posts. The morning crew must be slackin' off as there are just a few pages to contend with. I sense that if the posting pace does not pick up then I'll have to post another "encouraging" image to flog some typing speed out of the present crew! pirate:

Hey CBJHockeyNut -
What's the scoop on your screen name?
Watching hockey? Playing hockey? Ummm - table top hockey with peanuts as pucks?

Why do I ask? My whole family is hockey crazy - we all play (4 different teams = A LOT of rink time).

DH & I are also orginally from Ohio - where are you??

Oops...

... figures I would miss the "943 miles from" portion of your Icon ID remark. Remember... it's my spouse who is the smart one in my home!
