pirate: Hello Maties

You guys have been killing me with your posts. I have working since last Wednesday. By the time I get home and read all of the posts I am dragging and need to go to be since I have to get up before 5am. Will be off tomorrow and hope to follow more closely.
OK, this happened at work today. One of my friends who is also a Disney Geek, (not DIS Geek) said "Hey, I saw on the news that the Disney boat is coming back to LA. Did you know about that?" Well I was kind of :rotfl: and said "Yah, I think I heard something about that happening."

Anyway to a much serious note. Crash I feel for you!! As I was driving home tonight on the 101 I saw what I thought was fog in the distance, but alais it was another fire. Traffic almost came to a stop as I pasted by the worst of the flames behind the Pool table store and K-mart. The area that it covered was not huge, but the flames sure looked scarey. We live about 3 miles north of 101. Can still see the light in the sky out of our bedroom window. Hope that you and your family make it through the night OK. The wind does not seem to be to bad. OK, until tomorrow guys.

Greetings neighbor!

WOw... I don't believe I've ever encountered (or noticed) another DIS enthusiat from the conejo before... well... I recollect there was once a DIS fan from Simi some time ago...

At any rate ... this is a copy of what I wrote to some freinds in reply to their emails enwuiring how we were goind since they saw the photos I emailed them...

iEC445A5A-AFDD-4B99-9A1B-E1C471E9621F.jpg

What is not clear in the photos was...

... actually that the flames were randomly licking ABOVE the ridge line to the height of a good sized palm tree! And the helicopters were swooping and dropping water behind out home (100 yards away). The smoke from the flames was PANORAMIC well beyond the scope which the camera could capture. And ... that there was a cul de sac behind our home serving as a buffer if the flames actually destroyed any homes. Plus - right now I can hear the roar of heavy fire trucks LEAVING the area. Just 45 minutes ago before I turned in I drove off to personally look over the area. It seems the streets behind us and down a block or two were evacuated as there are sherrifs and CHP stationed and elsewhere the sherrifs are gone. I know some folks were evacuated as when I picked up Kalia another parent we knew commented that they had already been evacuated at 5:20PM.

So thanks for your thoughts. My personal tour 45 minutes ago reveals the fire is mostly out in spite of TV news reporting it is only 15% controlled. My observations say it is 97% out in our vicinity. Outside is really foggy with a huge stink from the fire. However I can still see clusters of fire engines parked and I can see 2 helicopters hovering high over head. I assume they are not news copters or water droppers, but they are likely observation choppers. I must have seen no less then 4 battalion chiefs working the fire lines out here. I am sincerely impressed with the fire fighting infrastructure they had mobilized. As I said earlier - I now have a new appreciation for what some of our tax dollars fund in fire fighting equipment and personnel. I am convinced that without their efforts we would have had entire neighborhoods in my area go up in flames given that we have so many oak trees and such a dry and windy environment earlier.

So just because you're out here in the Conejo... if you like medium quality Chinese food, simple sushi and mongolian BBQ... then this wednesday you need to head over to the CHINA MOON Buffett on Erringer in Simi Valley. Every Wednesday in the month of january they have an all day $4.99 deal (almost half their dinner cost) and the usual applies for kids over age 3... $0.80 per year of age. Now... they don't serve King or Dungenes Crab... but they do have giant steamed Oysters, clams, peel and eat shrimp (medium sized), 4 soups, ribs, mussels, corn on the cob, decent mongolian beef, several stir fry dishes and nearly all of the basic stuff you might expect. Compared to the Chinese Buffett where the old Cocos used to be at the west end of Jans ROad the selection is at least 50% larger at China Moon - but NO crab dishes for the $4.99 rate. The T,Oaks location serves crab for lunch as I recall.

If you're there on wednesday evening at about 7:15 on - we will be ther. My daughter has Karate until 6:45PM. Last week on wednesday it was crowded even though it was freezing cold outside!

You guys just amaze me with all you can do on these posts. Takes all the computer skills I can dredge up just to add a smiley or two. :dance3: See- But- I do have the skills of online shopping down pat!
Honored to be part of the group- :yay:

Heya.. east coaster here that works nights and lurks alot. She might be up for grabbing AHHHH pirate:ing a few of the no names!!!!!!

I missed all the drama. Crash I'm glad all is safe for now. I know how crazy those Santa Ana's can get.

Judy....another west coast poster here...I'm game to help with that marker. ;)

Well,,,

most evenings i can stay up and goof around but tonight i'm tired a bit... otherwise I'm ALWAYS GAME for a friendly sprint to the next "century" marker. I have been know to go off the deep end with my late nite antics! I think my record for posts in a day was something like 67 or 76 on the September Southern cruise meet thread last year... and I timed it so that I posted exactly 1000 contributions on embarkation day after joining the thread and sailing with exactly 60 days before embarkation - so I pay it in full when I booked it. SO I averaged exactly 16.67 a day for 60 days! I think I was the 8 or 9th highest posting DIS nut on embarkation day.

At any rate, I am always game for a freindly sprint - and if it is late at nite - no sweat... as we tend to have less competition! <chuckles!>

Well it seems that the List of Pirates is growing ....I think once DCL takes our reservations the actual planning can begin ...So no research until January 31 ..

Captcrash _ glad things are looking better your way ...

I have had a migrane most of the early evening and now , that why I havent been around ...trying to get some sleep so I will chat with you all in the morning ...

pirate:

May I share that my sister in law has had terrible migranes - and she's tried all sorts of remedies and theraphies (misspelled?)... and supposedly one of the homeopathic approaches says to do away with all aspertain (again, misspelled?) as some studies suggested some who sufferred from migranes used a lot of the stuff. And my SIL does in fact use a lot of aspertaine.

If you're one of those - try weening yourself of it for a few weeks to cleanse your system of it - and maybe your migranes will clear up?

AND note... I am not biased here ... and am encouraging you to try weening and/or read the studies on it. SOme studies refute my assertions while others support it. Either way who cares what any study says IF your migranes subside with elimenating aspertaine?

(had to sneak a pirate in)

Ohhh, I hadn't thought of living on the Magic! I keep telling DH that
when we retire I want to live in Talkeetna, Alaska June-Jan. & Key West Feb-May. Basically, I aspire to be a small town eccentric.:teeth:

What a beautiful idea! If only I could convince my dear shop-a-holic spouse to leave the big city. She grew up in a one signal light town and she loves to shop - but also she is a good value shopper getting many things on sale or deep discount. I sometimes nudge her about her greatest bargain being "me" ... and she always counters the "I" was the one thing she over paid for! <chuckles>

Now "I" could really go for living in a beautiful place like "here" ....
....in the SUMMER!

Okay Stacey- you're making me do this!! I'm Sharon- another one of the Escaping Moms. I live in Cave Creek, Az near Stacey. And the reason I've just been keeping an eye on this adventure- well- it's kind of like jumping rope- you need to get that 'oomph' to jump into it. It's a tad overwhelming- to say the least!! But I'm up the challenge- that is- if I'm up for reading 25 pages a day.:surfweb:

But honestly- you all sound like you're- no we're going to have the time of our lives. It will be an adventure- to be sure.

Awwww .....

.... shucks! We've only got 93 pages in about 10 days 12 hours!??? That's only about 8.85 pages a day on average! On the other hand, have "I" been able to "keep up" om the reading.... NO!

So this is a bit intense, and that is WITHOUT THe fires raging in my neighborhood!

Hazel and two of her sisters went to visit their cousin in the hospital yesterday in North Jersey, by the time they arrived home last evening their cousin had taken a turn for the worse. Hazel just received a call letting her know her cousin just passed away. :sad1:

Hazel was very close with this cousin, she is so glad she went up to see her one last time.

Signing off for the night. See everyone tomorrow morning.

May I offer our sincere condolences on your familys' loss.

Okay so how about this---we have such a large group of DISers. We have already mentioned how large the CC party will be. Maybe we need to make an ALASKA 2009 banner. We know someone from DCL corporate will be on the cruise. What do you think?:lmao: :lmao:

Why buy / make a real banner when we can create one with photoshop or something? I'm sure we must have a few talented folks who could swing this for us!

Yeah you think we are going nuts over this cruise ...Wait till the Disney Dreams is launched ....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

pirate:

Is that a fact for the next ships' name? <chuckles>

OK... I am turning in now... I have set up someone to take 1400 in just a few more posts ... no one s;ack off mow today... I wanna wake up an' see 1600 looming on the post count by 12 noon! :lmao:

signin' off - even though I may still show a green "on line" light for a while....

ZZzzzzzzz!:cloud9:

Good Morning All,

Slept in a little later this morning, didn't get up until nearly 6am and just finished catching up on the thread.

I would like to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts, I will share them with Hazel when she gets up. It was a long night around here.

Crash, I'm happy to read things are getting better out your way as well!!!

I have to get my DD some breakfast, she prefers dad's cooking over mom's, so I'll be back later.

Have a great day everyone, only 8 more days to go until 1/31!!!:thumbsup2

So I DID read it correctly - and grats were tossed in after I looked at them.

I sure hope that they don't toss in free grats on our sailing because it is not selling well - I would rather they price it right and sell conventionally - and for that matter - cut another 15% off the prices <chuckles>:surfweb:

First, I am glad that you are safe!! Phew! Too close for me! I hope you were able to sleep last night.:grouphug:

As for adding in the "free" tips, I had booked the Med Repo then transferred the booking onboard in Dec. The price hadn't gone up so I got the 10% discount, the OBC and the tips. Now I am transferring that booking to this one as plans aren't panning out as expected. I am assuming only tose with an onboard booking are getting this added bonus, but I wonder about those who booked onboard prior to the offer.:confused3

Crash,

Just finished reading the morning paper and what did I see when I opened it up, the picture you posted overnight.

Our prayers and thoughts continue to go out to all concerned in your area.

Gotta get out the door for work.

Later
