OK everybody, if you want Judy to comeback you're going to have to show that you believe in her. Clap you hands & say "I do believe in Judy"

"I do belive in Judy, I do, I do."

Maybe if we yell really loud. Think Marlon Brando in "Streetcar Named Desire".
But instead of Stella, it's:

JUDY!!

I agree Crash...I too think it would be fun to take the train/subway to get about town. Now, if I had to deal with it on a daily basis....maybe I'd change my mind...I don't know.

I've never been to NYC, but it's definitely on my list of places I really want to visit. I want to experience the whole big city deal there....see a Broadway show....the works! I've been to Chicago a few times, and I really love that city!

I LOVE NYC!!! I've only visited there once, but I felt SO at home and in tune with the city. I feel like I must have lived there in a past life because it just felt like I belonged there. The transit system is SO awesome!! And so efficient!! I absolutely loved riding the subway and the busses!!! I would move there in a heartbeat if I felt like I could A) convince DP to do so, and B) afford to live there! :rotfl:

We've lived in Chicagoland for almost eight years now and rarely go into downtown. The train takes too long (no express on the weekends) and we often find ourselves waiting for it. The commuter train (Metra) does not connect to the "L" downtown so you have to walk a few blocks to catch the subway after taking the train from the suburbs. We just end up driving and paying the parking, which is about as cheap as taking the train+subway for five people.

Just a different viewpoint from a suburb dweller. I'm sure other Chicagoans on the boards have different viewpoints.

Good Morning all.

Weather in beautiful Central NJ looks to be going into the 40s today. Watch out, it's a heat wave!!!

Happy Birthday Christine.

Today looks to be a great day. No meetings. I can actually get some work done and keep up with this.

So, are the men going to sound as bad this week as they did last week on AI? Is there any man in this year's group that can challange the ladies? I also want to see what sort of shout-out they give to Jennifer on her Oscar win. They need to do something to consume 90 minutes of my life. :rotfl: :rotfl:

I think the men are boring, but I guess I'll watch it just to see how they do.

Maybe it's just my Southern California childhood but I've never understood the appeal of NYC...first of all, I do understand that I come from "Car Culture" and that's prolly my biggest complaint: I don't want to have to ride a friggin' train or bus to get to where I want to be! Nor do I wasn to PAY somebody to drive me there! So I guess that and the 5 BILLION poeple piled on top of each makes me nervous.

One of my favorite things about living in NYC is that I walk almost everywhere -- my girls to school and back, to work, to church, to shop, etc. If I can't walk, I take the subway and don't mind it in the least. My least favorite way to get around is in a taxi because of the traffic, so I rarely do it. It is an entirely different culture than a "car culture" -- I can go months without being in a car, and I truly love it that way.

Never carry a knife to a gun fight!

If you look at the actual statistics rather than everyone's perception, you will see that New York City is actually safer than where most of the other people on the Dis live . . .

I'm now skipping all around.
But I want to say thanks to all of you for your well-wishes, and all of the great "new baby" stories and advice! :thumbsup2

Well I wouldn't want to live there, because I don't want to continue living in the NE at all since it's too damn cold, but I love to vist NY & I just love New Yorkers & New Jerseyans too!:thumbsup2

I think Judy will respond to a "softer, gentler" call.......

Kumbaya my Judy.....Kumbaya.....

I lived in West Rogers Park (Northern Chicago) when I was doing my postdoc at Northwestern . . . I loved the El and the Evanston Express . . . I don't know about the other commuter trains but that one had an easy transfer across the tracks.

THANK YOU.

ALSO GOOD EVENING /AFTERNOON / MORNING ALL

Hi Andrew!!!!

I'll tell you a funny story that I think you will appreciate: I was once in a hot tub at Beach Club with a bunch of Brits. I forget how it started, but we all started going on with some kind of rather acerbic humor . . . eventually one turned to me and said "Where are you from?" When I replied, she said, "Oh, that explains it -- a little island off the coast of Europe -- most Americans aren't that sarcastic!"

Ok, my turn for a "child gone bad" story  I was the child throwing a fit in the store because my Mom wanted me to stay with HER, but I wanted to go through the store with my Aunt. My Mom had had ENUFF and she popped me on the mouth with her fingers. Mind you, it wasn't a closed fist, it wasn't all that hard or malicious ... just enough to get my attention. It just so happened that it was that time of year when my lips get incredibly chapped (still do every fall to this very day) and when she popped me, my lip started to bleed  There was a woman standing close by that saw all of this happen and when she saw the blood on my lip she "HARUMPHED" pretty loudly at my Mom. My Mom, who was beyond mortified by this time turned to the woman and said, "Lady, another sound out of you and YOU'RE NEXT." :lmao:

It just means that Lisa is able to send emails to our group without anyone who receives the emails being able to see all the individual email addresses . . . it's a nice security measure to prevent our emails from being used for any other purpose than the one we signed up for (messages from Lisa about our website or other relevant updates).

Thanks! I knew it would be answered sometime before my post.:rotfl:

So I imagine the next step would have been divorce proceedings if they hadn't made the next flight?

Hey, I was already in FL and I was going no matter what! DH would have had to deal with his 3 little girls.:rolleyes1

Good one, but slight correction in our humble opinions.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

THE BIG ISLAND too close to the coast of Europe,

We tell them whats best, they ignore us, spend too much money and then finally do it our way!

My favorite was once at Disney World. My DD, who was nine months, and I were sitting waiting for everyone else who was on Tower of Terror. DD went into a meltdown. When she had a meltdown, she HATED to be held -- she'd kick and scream and just work herself up more. If you left her alone, she'd freak out for 5-10 minutes and then calm herself. So I sat her in her stroller, and was rocking it back and forth. Some woman came over and screamed "Why don't you pick that child up instead of letter her cry. That's child abuse."

I told her loudly if she didn't leave immediately, she would truly understand the meaning of the word abuse. A CM walked over and asked her what was wrong. I told her what I was doing and asked her to keep this woman away from me. The other woman walked away complaining loudly about 'some people'.

DD calmed down as I was talking to the CM.

It is amazing how people think they know how to deal with your kids.

The first time we visited DH's family in Egypt, DD was barely 7 months old (she was the one who was also 3 months early). She HAD to cry to get to sleep. Usually no more than a minute. This made DMIL crazy for the first few days. I would lay DD down, come out of the room and shut the door. DMIL would pace back and forth, yapping in Arabic to DH, for the minute it would take until DD went to sleep. It took her a couple of days, but she finally figured out that it worked. I can't really blame her though as the culture dictates that the mother lay with the child for however long it takes... just not my style.
