Can we talk about happy things tomorrow??

"Why, what's the matter, Eeyore?"

"Nothing Pooh Bear, nothing. We can't all, and some of us don't. That's all there is to it"

"Can't all what?" said Pooh, rubbing his nose.

"Gaiety. Song-and-dance. Here we go round the mulberry bush."

As brack mentioned, in The Army, a person is promoted to glory. I just went through the whole ritual last month as my grandfather, a retired officer, was "Promoted to Glory" 01/14/07 (brack - his PtG bulletin was posted on the Eastern Territory bulletin board on Lotus Notes.) Wasn't as festive as the family wanted, because in my grandmother's mind, she wanted it to be 'proper'. However, we did have a banana split flower arrangement made up from the grandkids/great-grandkids, he was buried with a bible and hammer in hand, and the service was full of laughter. Hardest part for me was at the end when the brass band lined up through the hall out to the front door and played "Sweeping through the Gates" as they carried him out.

Now for the rest of the ketchup...

Jimmies

Ham & Cheese Italians

Things like soder & pizzer hardly ever enter my vocab. It's Soda and Pizza.

But things Cah and Pahk and wicked often slip out when I'm not careful.

Diet Soda = Diet Pepsi
Regular = Pepsi (But Coke on Cap'n Crunch)
Always Diet Coke w/Malibu

I have been guilty of the 7-up and a splash of Pepsi as a subsitute for Ginger-Ale in my waitressing days, but we added something from behind the bar. Bitters perhaps???

Still no room assignments for me or my parents.

Still haven't found that AI or AR program yet on the Sci-Fi channel!?!??

Time to go to work. Happy DHSTF everyone!!

(Down Hill Slide To Friday)

Hi, I am Vanetta and am trying to get on this cruise. We are DVC members and hoping that space will come available before this ship sets sail in Aug. 2008. I am friends with Cinderella Mom and family.

:wave2: Hi Vanetta...Good Luck! I hope you are able to get a stateroom.....

Good morning All. I am going to try to ketchup before I head off to work. When I talked to my mom this morning she said her DH had a pretty good night. The dr's say there is not pneumonia, but they are still trying to figure out what the infection he has. They have him on some strong antibiotics. The dr's are hopeful they will be able to take him off the ventilator late tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for all your prayers.

Ok, actually we got in Feb 13, but I have been busy at work and haven't had time to post. We were a little late to the game, hadn't realized this was coming out (or that it would sell out so quickly) so we started trying Feb 1 and got a place two weeks later, thanks in large part to the efforts of Bob at Dreams Unlimited (thanks for hanging in there for us!) Cruisers will be me, dh, dd (then 12) and ds (then 10). I will never be able to read back through all the prior posts (or keep up with them at the rate they are coming!) but wanted to say we feel very fortunate to have gotten a space onboard and are looking forward to the trip of a lifetime!

Congrats!

Your very first experience at Disneyland / WDW
My first experience at anything Disney was in 11/03 when we took the kids to MK before the cruise. We walked down main street and I realized that the castle was real. I had been told by SWTSKIA (she who thought she knew it all) that it was only a flat prop when I was growing up. I had tears in my eyes when we got in front of it and turned toward tomorrow land. I took lots of pictures. I don't think that DH realized why I couldn't take my eyes off of it.

We went to the Cinderella surprise show that morning. DH & I had agreed that there wasn't a point to standing in line to see characters when they would be on the ship with shorter lines. We had parked the stroller to the right of the stage against the gate since we had been really early getting there. Well, we were getting the strollers & realized that there were people lining up behind us. We looked up & saw Mickey heading towards us with one other family in front of us. I looked at DH and said we are GOING to get a picture with Mickey. I was worried about the kid's reactions since they both didn't like Santa and DS had freaked out the year before when we told him we were going on the Disney ship. They walked up to Mickey checking him out and then he opened his arms to them. DS gave him a big hug & smiled. With a little coaxing from DH, DD did too I was SO relieved. The CM offered to take our picture together.

A description of the best possible cruise day
It would have to be a sea day with beautiful weather, crusing with our friends and the kids playing with their buddies on deck 9...between the Mickey pool & the ping pong tables. The day would be topped off with dinner at Palo with friends.

If you won the lottery - what would you do with it?
Change DH's retirement plans. Take the kids out of school to homeschool as we take a trip around the world.

DS8 1/2 will come to me when he is having a rough day and ask if he can cuddle so we sit in the recliner & talk. He has always been the snuggly one of the two of them. I know that wont last forever. :guilty:

I think in general boys are more cuddly with their moms than girls. Same is true for us, my sister, and many of our friends.....:confused3

Ds will come up and give me a kiss and hug for no reason all of the time. Dd doesn't ever do that. She will really only cuddle early in the morning or at bed time. I want to just grab her and kiss and hug her during the day, and she gets annoyed. I told her the other day that I love her sooooo much and it just gets all "bottled up" inside of me, and I need to let it out. She told me I need to get a bigger bottle! :goodvibes

If you won the lottery - what would you do with it? Well, let's just say it was a "big" lottery...like five million dollars. Take home about three million after taxes. We'd take care of us first....pay off mortage and add to the two college funds. We'd buy long term care insurance for me and my spouse so my kids will never have to worry about taking care of us...I'm taking care of my mom now and never want my sons to have to deal with it. That leaves about 2.5 million. I would give my siblings (3 left) and my DH's siblings (2) money to pay off their mortages and for their kids educations. That leaves about 1.5 million. I would take half of that and invest it. I would take the other half and give to several charities. I might have to splurge on some cool vacations...Galapagos Islands and Australia and Hawaii. I might build an addition on our house for a third bay in the garage and offices for my DH and myself (we both work from home now). See the view from my window in signature below....

LOVE your view. I would stay in the same house also.

Well ...

.... since the question was posed... I took it upon myself to look it up.

And, did you know that the odds of dying are as follows... with the first number being the number of occurances in the USA in a 2003, the 2nd number being the odds of each event in a year, and the 3rd number is the odds of the event happening to you in your LIFETIME.

1) Chance for sufferring a fatality in a transport accident - 48,071 in USA, 1 in 6,050 for 1 year, and 1 in 78 over lifetime.

2) Chance for sufferring a fatality for ANY reason - 166,857 in the USA, 1 in 1,743 in a year, and 1 in 22 over your lifetime.

3) Chance for a fatal Motor Vehicle accident = 44,757 in the USA, 1 in 6,498 in a year, and 1 in 84 over your lifetime!

4) Chance for a fatality in an air or space transport vehicle = 742 in the USA, 1 in 391,981 in a year, and 1 in 5,051 in your lifetime.

5) Chance for a fatality by bite or sting from nonvenomous insect or other arthropods - 12 in the USA, odds in a year are 1 in 24,237,500... and odds in your lifetime = 1 in 312,331.

6) Chance for suffering a fatality from assult with a FIREARM = 11,920 in the USA, 1 in 24,400 in a year, and 1 in 314 over your lifetime.

7) Chance for sufferring a fatality from Complications of medical and surgical care and sequelae = 2,855 instances in the USA, which amounts to 1 in 101,874 for a year, or 1 in 1,313 in your lifetime.

Clearly, driving is a dangerous undertaking statistically. Out of 166,857 fatalities 48,071 involved transport, and 44,757 were from motor vehicles. In fact, it looks like about 95% of fatal transport accidents involve automobile vehicles. And only 742 of 188,857 were involving air or space craft.

These 7 catagories of fatality were taken from among a hundred plus different catagories. Click here to see the original list I used to draw these 7 examples... http://www.nsc.org/lrs/statinfo/odds.htm

Sorry, no matter how many statistics you quote at me isn't going to change my fear when I get aboard the airplane. Knowing I only have a 1 in 5000 chance of dying does me no good if I happen to be the '1' this time.

Yes, I have a better chance of dying behind the wheel of a car than in an airplane seat. I know that. I have an even better chance of dying answering the question "Does this dress make me look fat?"

The odds don't matter if the roulette wheel ends up on your number.

The lottery is lucky to get $20 bucks a year out of me. I sell almost 2 million dollars worth a year and we still can't manage to sell one of the "big winners".
I will spend a $1 when the Powerball is over $200 million if i remember.

Most Sundays I can't follow what is being said because I have two kids constantly asking me questions...not about Church. :sad2:

You want to know what solved that problem for us? We moved to the front row. They have always been on their best behavior since.

Last year ds started serving at Mass, so a lot of the time it's just dd in the pew with us.

That's what it is...Friends of Bill W.
Now, this is evil, and someone should stop me from telling this story.....

No one? Okay.......

On the 11 Night cruise, we had brought a bunch of our own wine, etc. My friend had brought a 6 pack of O'Douls. Well, this is the friend who had to leave the ship because of a death in the family. Toward the end of the cruise, we were starting to think about packing....and couldn't decide what to do with the O'Douls. We'd asked every crew member we saw, but they didn't want it if it wasn't "the good stuff". So we came up with the bright idea that we could stand outside the Friends of Bill W meeting and maybe give it away. :rotfl:
No, we didn't..........

Ok, you have a reserved seat next to me on the bus to Hell...

Long johns can be:

Another name for éclairs in some parts of the United States.
A bar-shaped doughnut, which may or may not be filled.

What's the difference between an eclair and a "bar shaped doughnut" which may or may not be filled?

Someone mentioned cabinets earlier?

A milkshake is:

in the United Kingdom and the New England region of the United States, a beverage which is made from milk and flavourings.
in Canada and most regions of the United States, a beverage which is made from milk, ice cream, and other flavourings such as fruit and chocolate sauce. This usage is also common in the United Kingdom, alongside the above.
A milkshake made with ice cream, as in North America, is also known as: a thickshake in the United Kingdom, a frappe (pronounced "frap") in parts of New England and Canada, and a cabinet in Rhode Island [1].

Throughout the United States, especially in fast food and casual dining restaurants, a milkshake may be referred to simply as a shake. When an ice cream milkshake is made with malted milk, it is generally called a "malt" or a "malted."

But WHY do they call it a cabinet? Is it because if you drink enough of them, you'll be roughly the shape of a cabinet? Is it because they are so runny they'll end up in your drawers?

 Good morning all and happy Thursday!
I've already done ketched up...:)

Hi Vanetta and welcome! :wizard: Here's a little magic for you that DCL will find you a room for the Trip of a Lifetime!

My mom's husband was admitted to the hospital Monday for some prostate problems. They did surgery on him today and my mom just called to say that he is currently on a ventilator. They have called in a pulmonary specialist and she is waiting for some news. Please say a few prayers for them.
:grouphug:

Just found out that a friend of the family got his PSA results in and his count was 15, which is very, very high and most likely Prostate Cancer. I had the PSA test done last year, my count was 0.4
Keep the faith! My DDad is going through this right now. My uncle had prostate cancer 12 years ago so that puts DDad at a higher risk. Every 6 months to the doc. This time his PSA read 17. He's never been above a 4. He did the ultrasound and had biopsies taken this week and doc is fully expecting a clean bill. :goodvibes

:welcome: to the crew! Check out the first page of this thread for some good info and the signature banner or the Cap'n will threaten you to walk the plank.:rotfl:

Now that has been cleared up, I am compelled to ask: sub, grinder, hoagie or hero ??
:)
I grew up in northern NJ so it's hero and sprinkles.;)

My parting gift tonight - a list of cheerier topics for tomorrow...

Your very first experience at Disneyland / WDW
A description of the best possible cruise day
Funny stories about your favorite pet
Funny stories about your sibling(s) / childhood
If you won the lottery - what would you do with it?

Oooh, some of these are tough!

First experience at DL/WDW...
DDad travelled a lot so we managed DL before WDW. I loved California and thought it was awesome. I still get goose bumps thinking about It's A Small World chiming!!! Then we went to WDW and I was TOTALLY blown away. We were spoiled as kids and got the passes, not the ticket booklets. Thought we were 'hot stuff' to pick out a button so we could wear it. But honestly we loved looking for a family when we were done for the day to give our passes to. That was in the '70s, can't you tell? :rotfl:
Mail0020.jpg

Best possible cruise day:
Check in and find out that we were upgraded by the Mouse into the Roy or Walt.:cool1: Then we get picked as the family of the week to board first. The CMs faces are of pure shock  when we notify them that our travelling party consists of 400 of our closest friends from the DIS that need to board with us!:rotfl: Then, once on board, Captain Tom announces that we'll be sailing directly to CC and spend the entire trip there.:cloud9:

Funny pet story and Funny childhood story:
These go both together. When DB and I were little, we had a cat named Boots. Oh the way we used to 'play' with her drove our parents nuts!!! One day, after spending over an hour to catch her:rolleyes1 , DB and I decided to make her Super Kitty, complete with mask and cape. As we were deciding on her adventure, DMom called us for dinner. Now after all of this hard work, DB and I certainly couldn't just let her go. So, we had a not so bright idea...let's put her in DBs drawer for safe keeping until we were done eating. Deed done, we went and ate. DMom commented how good we were that day and offered to take us to DQ for ice cream. We jumped at the chance and TOTALLY forgot about Boots. That night, DB woke up and went into my parent's room b/c he was hearing noises and was scared.:rolleyes1 They let him crawl into bed and it was a peaceful night, for all but the poor cat. Next morning we go off to school and DMom starts putting away the laundry. She got to the 'magic drawer' and out came a very poofy cat who jumped onto her chest and then ran for the hills. After DMom got over the shock, she noticed what the cat had done in the drawer...all over DBs clothes.:rolleyes1 Boy did we get it when we got home!!!:rotfl2:

Winning the lottery:
Well, I'm going to hope big that it's the PowerBall (at least A$10mil). After doing the essentials, like paying off the mortgage, putting a cool million in the bank for DDs college fund, planning our futures well enough that DD WON'T plop us in a nursing home in Timbuktu and helping out the rest of my family, we'd travel the world for a year. So many incredible places to see, such incredible things to witness first hand. And then I would honestly start some type of foundation for kids to help them with their future education plans.

No beans. Not chunky. Very smooth consistency. Almost like a spaghetti sauce - but with the flavor of chilli.

Oh, and it has cocoa in it.

Love Cincinnati chili. Made a not-big-enough pot of it over the weekend (not enough leftovers). Four-way -- spaghetti, chili, onions, cheese (no beans for me).

Well, I am heading off for work now. Chat with you all this evening. I am supposed to go to an all day crop(scrapbooking) tomorrow and haven't gotten a thing organized to take with me. But I have tons of things to work on if i can just get it together.
