Well ...
.... since the question was posed... I took it upon myself to look it up.
And, did you know that the odds of dying are as follows... with the first number being the number of occurances in the USA in a 2003, the 2nd number being the odds of each event in a year, and the 3rd number is the odds of the event happening to you in your LIFETIME.
1) Chance for sufferring a fatality in a
transport accident - 48,071 in USA, 1 in 6,050 for 1 year, and 1 in 78 over lifetime.
2) Chance for sufferring a fatality for
ANY reason - 166,857 in the USA, 1 in 1,743 in a year, and 1 in 22 over your lifetime.
3) Chance for a fatal
Motor Vehicle accident = 44,757 in the USA, 1 in 6,498 in a year, and 1 in 84 over your lifetime!
4) Chance for a fatality in an
air or space transport vehicle = 742 in the USA, 1 in 391,981 in a year, and 1 in 5,051 in your lifetime.
5) Chance for a fatality by
bite or sting from nonvenomous insect or other arthropods - 12 in the USA, odds in a year are 1 in 24,237,500... and odds in your lifetime = 1 in 312,331.
6) Chance for suffering a fatality from
assult with a FIREARM = 11,920 in the USA, 1 in 24,400 in a year, and 1 in 314 over your lifetime.
7) Chance for sufferring a fatality from
Complications of medical and surgical care and sequelae = 2,855 instances in the USA, which amounts to 1 in 101,874 for a year, or 1 in 1,313 in your lifetime.
Clearly, driving is a dangerous undertaking statistically. Out of 166,857 fatalities 48,071 involved transport, and 44,757 were from motor vehicles. In fact, it looks like about 95% of fatal transport accidents involve automobile vehicles. And only 742 of 188,857 were involving air or space craft.
These 7 catagories of fatality were taken from among a hundred plus different catagories. Click here to see the original list I used to draw these 7 examples...
