Are we not posting enough for you that you have this much spare time on your hands??:lmao:

I am at work. Anything to break the sheer tedium of some project manager going over yet another list while I search for the cover sheet for my TPS reports.

I'll join in with all the moms who believe this should stay 'voluntary'. I have enough complaints about my school district requiring dental exams every few years (and why do they need to be involved in whether my kids have bad gums or not) let alone something like this.

Wow! That is interesting. You school requires dental exams? Now I noticed you stated only "every few years" so that is what people should be doing anyway but that does appear a bit intrusive.
This kind of reminds me of a situation w/ oldest DD when she was in the 1st grade. Her teacher called me and said "I think Megan needs to see an Optometrist". She has glasses, how in the world did she think we got the glasses to begin w/?:confused3 I told her that Megan had seen one of 3 Pediatrict Opthamologist (MD's) every 6 months since she was born. She is in a multi-national study on her eye disorder and has been monitored very carefully. Well I thought that would stop the conversation but, no..... She kept calling me every day making me feel like I was worlds worst parent because I was "not taking care of my child". I was finally in tears when I took her to her main Opthamologist and he said "Why are your here so soon after your last appt.?". I said because the school nurse said I had to. He was so upset for me, wrote a note stating Megan was fine and I took her back to school. I had to get her "relaased" by the nurse before she could go back to class. I gave the nationally known Dr's note and she said.... "Well, I don't believe it"!!! I got Megan checked in, glared at the nurse, and left in tears.
All of this becasue Megan holds the book closely to her face when she reads.:sad2:

I wonder if they will still have this in Aug 08??

I'll call them tomorrow or this weekend and investigate further! Well let you know more details as I find them.

MJgirl ---I thought the spam group already had the place reserved for the picnic? I think our date might need to be a different night....

Yeah, but did you actually SAY something?
NO
Once I got all caught up, which I am now, I was going to say the very same things. And I would add that when our daughters are cute and precious and young...like yours, Lisa, Shelley, Judy, etc... we really don't ever want to consider that they might engage in certain activities until they are married, or at least into their 20's. And we all hope that we are going to be "good parents" and teach them about abstinence, etc. And we ARE good parents, and we DO teach them these things.
BUT.....the reality is.....most don't wait. Parents are the last thing young kids are thinking about when they are together and think they're "in love". And I know that we can say that we won't allow them to be in a situation where they might be able to "go too far".....but kids are determined creatures, and where there's a will, there's a way. Never say never. I think the vaccine is a great idea.
But I DO agree that government should not be involved.

Hey why did I get thrown in there. I never said one word.....Mykids have all been vacinnated with every available shot including chicken pox.....I will definitely get my daughter this vaccine when it is available here.

Well, actually it is the State of Illinois. Dental exams for kindergarten, fifth and ninth grade are required. I agree it is a 'should be' for the parents and I wish now my parents had been more inclinded to (my parents didn't like going to any doctors at all -- they were Cheap with a capital C) but I am tired of the schools and the government replacing parental responsibility.

Oh, that poor nurse wouldn't be able to see straight through her tears if she had tried that with me. We had to go the ped. opt. route with our oldest son b/c his eyesight was so bad. They were afraid for awhile it would keep progressing until he went blind, but they were able to correct it and now he wears contacts (finally getting rid of the coke-bottle glasses) and has been steady for about five years.

[J. R.] Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties because it's coooold out there today.
[Judy] It's coooold out there every day. What do you think this is, Castaway Cay?
[J. R.] There's another reason why today is especially exciting.
[Judy] Especially cold!
[J. R.] Yes, especially cold, okay, but the big question on everybody's lips
[Judy] On their chapped lips
[J. R.] Right, on their chapped lips. Do you think anyone is going to talk about these topics today?
[Judy] That's right woodchuck-chuckers, it's...
[All] GROUNDHOG POST!

SO:

  • Did anyone get a room assignment from DCL today?
  • Lisa, did we tell you we really miss the website?
  • Cake. Yum, cake. With frosting. And whipped cream?
  • What size crocs should I buy? Are they comfortable? Boy, are they ugly.
  • blah, blah, blah N.R. (with swords)
  • Where are we going to be able to buy our lime green DIS T-****s for the cruise, Captain
  • The Tag Fairy doesn't like me. She likes me. I got tagged! It's like Christmas in February!
  • Did anyone get moved off WLE dining to Captain's dining?
  • Duct tape.
  • Who's going to win on that science-fiction show "AI"?

Very good job and it is amazing how I could speak while I was still asleep. You must know Taylor Mason........:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I received some bad news when I woke up this morning and have been trying to deal with that. DH's GM died Wednesday night. I haven't been able to reach him yet but the service wont be for a couple weeks. She will be buried with her DH in Arlington National Cemetary so we have to wait for an opening. Gram was a very sweet lady who I didn't meet until her DH died, but she and the rest of the family treated me wonderfully. We had just sent out our engagement announcements the week before his accident. She has been in a rest home for quite a while since suffering with alzheimer's. She died peacefully in her sleep, so that is comforting.

I just wanted you to know if I am not around much today.

MJgirl ---I thought the spam group already had the place reserved for the picnic? I think our date might need to be a different night....

Should we really be calling them the 'spam group'? I thought it was just one person who went too far. I'd really hate for there to be animosity building up from 17 months before the cruise when we finally board and meet our fellow cruisers.

(Ok, it must be bizarro day. I am trying to be a voice of reason. Freaky Friday and where is Lindsey Lohan?)

but I am tired of the schools and the government replacing parental responsibility.

I completely agree w/ this statement. It is a tough line since so many parents will not take care of things.
We live in an upper-middle class area and I am always surprised at the 1st day of school when they have to reject kids because they have not been properly vaccinated. It is not necessarily an economic issue.
Every year we have to decide on Medical/Dental plans. Every year my DH and I have the conversation about the dental options. The most expensive plan lets you pick your dentist and it hardly covers anything. Least expensive option covers almost everything including unlimited Orthodentia. But it is a not fancy facility at all. No cool TV's, listening devices etc. No frills, period. But every year we choose it because it does not tip the icky scale, as of yet. I am kinda cheap there too.

:offtopic: Read this article this morning and it sort of goes with the discussion from yesterday. List of most and least affordable cities for home prices. It is based on home prices as compared to average income.

Most Affordable
Indianapolis IN $113,000 price $65,100 avg. income
Youngstown OH $83,000 price $52,100 avg. income
Detroit MI $92,000 price $56,700 avg. income
Toledo OH $105,000 price $58,900 avg. income
Buffalo NY $89,000 price $58,300 avg. income
Least
Los Angeles CA $525,000 price $56,200 avg. income
Santa Ana CA $620,000 price $78,300 avg. income
San Diego CA $475,000 price $64,900 avg. income
New York NY $500,000 price $59,200 avg. income
Modesto CA $360,000 price $54,400 avg. income

It is an interesting list, but who the heck wants to live in Toledo OH or Detroit MI?

SO while I am up ranting by myself . . .

Reading about people who received e-mails about the new ships reminded me of something.

I think Disney hates me.

We've been to a park (WDW or DL) every year since we had kids in 1998.
We had WDW passes when we lived in FL
Cruised DCL 2x - '08 will be 3, we're on an every other year schedule (CC members, right?)
I buy everything with my Disney Visa
Disney shareholders (OK 2 shares, but still!)
Buy oodles of stuff from Disney Shopping
Disney Insider e-mail list

HAVE I EVER RECEIVED A POSTCARD, E-MAIL, OR ANYTHING ELSE????
NNNNOOOOOOOO! We've certainly never been family of the minute for any department.

I even had to call 3 months after our last cruise to see if they would send me the little CD kit-thingy I found out about on the Dis.

Come on Mickey - where's the love?

Same here....but I think I'm up to six Disney cruises.......:sad1:

Sweetie. I'm so sorry. Please know that you and Hubby are in my thoughts today.

Don't you mean Jodie Foster? :rotfl2: Dating myself here.

This is the first thread I ever participated in.:)

Pete---I almost missed you up on top.....How lucky we are that we drew you out of the darkness. Honestly that was sincere. Johnna is next.....She is a marked woman.....

I totally understand where you are coming from. Will my daughters be vaccinated? That will be up to me and their doctor to decide (hopefully). It is really sad that our government has to step in to help raise our children because there are so many who fail to step up to the plate!

See and I think Caroline just hit it on the head........

they do these things only because some parents are not wonderful consciencious parents like we all seem to be. .....Some don't even care enough to get the free prenatal care. Who ends up paying for all these women when they end up with horrible diseases........we the tax payers do......in essence I guess they feel it is their right to curtail future expenses....Just another way of looking at it......
