Mark--

Yeah, the DIS is my extended family--crazy Aunts & Uncles included.

The Witness Protection Program is to keep me hidden from the in-laws. :cool2:

Enna I love your self proclaimed tag.......

I know a few people looking for free advertising on here.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :stir: :stir: :stir: :stir: :stir:

The shoes...here's what I can tell you about that...

I'm a die-hard stride-rite mom, and a member of the no-velcro-shoes coalition.

You are welcome to come look in DD's closet, where you are bound to find no less than 4 pairs of shoes with velcro closures. WHY? Because that's the ONLY option. If I want stride-rite MaryJanes that don't look like they belong on BRATZ dolls, then I need to accept that they have Velcro closures. In the grand scheme of things, the Velcro is the lesser evil. (On a side note, I seem to be obsessed with Velcro today. I guess I've been icebound in the house too long with the kids and no velcro wall, as we discussed earlier.)

If I venture out of stride-rite, I can find cute MaryJanes that buckle. I bought an adorable pair of leather Cherokee brand ones at Target for a mere $14.99, but the toes looked awful after one wearing, and they were only on the carpeted floor at the school.

Even DD's keds are the Mary-Jane style with the floral velcro closure. At the first quarter parent-teacher conference, DD's kindergarten teacher (who has 36 years of experience) was raving about how much she LOVED those shoes. She declared them to be "cute and practical, and just the sort of thing the kids should be wearing because they can be 100% independant when they need to put shoes off & on." While I was shocked that an educator would endorse velcro over shoe-tying I could see her point--to her it was more important that the kids feel independant & self-confident, and one way to do that was to cut out the stress of shoelaces that consistantly untie.

Ok....off my shoebox.

Well, I wish they had more velcro shoes for adults. I used to have these great Avia walking shoes with velcro and they were the most comfortable I ever had.

Without starting a holy war, my DD is a velcro-character wearing girl. We buy shoes we and our daughter can agree on. Too many battles to fight over Disney Princess light-up velcro shoes.

Ummm....you do realize that you are taking your future child on a DISNEY cruise for your first big family vacation?!?!?!?

Yeah, I know...But I can dig the whole Disney scene...:lmao:
It's the Barney, TeleTubbies, etc thing that I'm worried about...:lmao:

Hey, you still have your "Twice the Magic" baseball cap???

I went to lunch and came back and ya'll are 7 pages down....was it a goal or something to keep this thread at the top of the Cruise Meets 24-7? :lmao:

Yes, Andy, I have my hat (love it) and you're the best!

O.K. I didn't get post 23553 like I wanted...but I got 23773...not too shabby!

I'll leave you Pirates to yourselves now...Drink up me hearties! :drinking1

Yes, but I have the sinking feeling that YOUR inlaws might be able to find you here.

Enna, there are some words we don't use on Cruise threads...

NTW, on our first DCL (3day) venture, I had the song "Titanic" stuck on my brain. RRBB almost killed me when I kept singing "Oh it was sad when that great ship went down!"

:figment:

OK, so I need to say that I in no way was trying to offend anyone with the shoe thing...
I guess my main train of thought was "If my friends who have kids have given in and bought the character shoes, will I give in too eventually when I have a child?"

I mean, I feel pretty strongly about my child wearing only Stride Rite, but I also at one time said that I was ONLY going to clothe my child in Gymboree and Baby Gap! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Well, then I may have to waver my position just a bit then...Those sound really cute! :thumbsup2

I'm just referring to the character shoes from like Payless...
And PLEASE don't get me wrong. I can totally understand the need for inexpensive shoes (my sister is a single mom, and she struggles to put food on the table, so she can't very well afford to pay a lot for shoes!)
But I think if you're ABLE to spend a little more money on kids' shoes, it's SO worth it to buy ones that will fit them properly and give them the right support!

Please whatever you do....don't look down at my kid's sneakers on the cruise! ;) :rotfl2:

Wow, You were all busy today!
On the topic of shoes,my dd was an extra wide and we had trouble fitting her at SR so we went to Bloomingdales Shoe Dept and she always wound up getting Clarks which actually turned out cheaper than SR. Same with our DS, but we did cave in to the character shoes with the velcro and my grandkids have always worn them as well.I think you start out with SR and then as the years go on,cave in to peer pressure with the kids.

Their is that secret veranda on Deck 7 right?

Of course, they won't find us in the bars.

Laura,

With a game plan like that, I would be more than happy to welcome you into the Witness Protection Plan. Just remember to pack your cool shades. :cool2:

Ya know, my son's fave pair of shoes are his croc's!!!

:figment:

OK, on this whole children shoe discussion, DS(2) gets his shoes (stride-right) at Nordstrums. They will replace the shoes for like 6 months even if he grows out of them... Really good customer service

:figment:

That's GREAT to know! Thanks! :thumbsup2
