Someone mentioned Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA a few pages back. As far as I know, they plan to shut down....something about alot of gang violence in the area. Not sure if they are still open right now, but they probably won't be by the time our cruise comes around.

I believe the Cap'n mentioned something about it being closed down to build more housing. How very sad. :sad2:

About hotels near DL....a few years ago, we went to a conference there. We registered late and all the good hotels were booked solid so we stayed at the Park Place Best Western which is directly across the street from the entrance plaza to both parks. It wasn't fancy, but it was clean, very inexpensive, and included a free hot breakfast at the restaurant next door. For the price and convenience, you can't beat it. You could even purchase your theme park tickets at the hotel desk and avoid the lines at the DL ticket booths. For those on a budget, it would be a good alternative to the pricier DL hotels.

I have been hearing about the selling of Magic Mountain for awhile around here, but according to this article from "Ultimate rollercoaster" Six flags has sold some other parks and at this time will retain Magic Mountain.

Six Flags Agrees To Sell Seven Parks For $312 Million

New York -- Six Flags announced plans to sell three of its water parks and four of its theme parks for $312 million.

The company announced last Thursday that it has entered into an agreement to sell the parks to PARC 7F- Operations Corporation (PARC) of Jacksonville, FL. The seven parks included in the sale are Six Flags Darien Lake in Buffalo, NY; Six Flags Elitch Gardens in Denver, CO; Frontier City and the White Water Bay water park in Oklahoma City, OK; SplashTown in Houston, TX; Waterworld USA in Concord, CA; and Wild Waves and Enchanted Village in Seattle, WA.

The seven parks will continue to operate under their new ownership. Six Flags estimated that the seven parks generated approximately $30 million in earnings (EBITDA) and approximately 3.6 million in attendance in 2006.

Excluded from the sale were Six Flags Magic Mountain and Six Flags Hurricane Harbor in Valencia, CA. Six Flags had previously announced its intent to sell these parks, but will continue to operate them for the foreseeable future.

"We're pleased with the sale price for this portfolio of parks, particularly since we were able to retain the Magic Mountain parks," said Mark Shapiro, Six Flags President and CEO. "This transaction confirms the value inherent in our major market branded parks."

The sale of these seven parks is a key component of Six Flags strategy to reduce debt and enhance operation and financial flexibility. Management planned to reduce the company debt by several hundred million dollars over the next several years.

This sale combined with the $77 million Six Flags received for the June 2006 sale of the land from the former AstroWorld theme park in Houston, will result in gross cash proceeds of $352 million for debt reduction.

"My new management team had several key priorities for Six Flags in 2006: transitioning our brand to attract families; cleaning up the parks; reducing capital expenditures; establishing a Corporate Alliances department to forge sponsorship and marketing partnerships with major consumer brands; increasing guest spending; and selling assets as a means to reduce the company's debt," said Shapiro.

"With this announcement, all those steps are in full swing and we now have our agenda focused squarely on the 2007 season," Shapiro added.

As part of the arrangements for the acquisition, PARC will simultaneously sell the parks to CNL Income Properties Inc., a Florida-based real estate investment trust, and lease back the parks from CNL pursuant to long-term leases.

The sale is subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including clearance under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act and receipt of necessary third-party consents. The transaction is expected to be completed in March 2007.

The company noted that both Six Flags Darien Lake and Six Flags Elitch Gardens will stop using the Six Flags name for 2007. Also, season passes purchased at either of these parks will be honored at all Six Flags branded parks throughout the 2007 season.

I will keep my ear to the ground if I hear of any change to this. And yes they have a some major gang problems there over the recent years.

Just checking in.........

We were suffering bad withdrawal symptoms after disembarking from the Wonder's 11-night southern cruise last year, so this time we're dragging the 'other' set of Grandparents along for the EB Repo :cool1:

We have two Cat-4 GTY's: Susan, Andy (me) and Sarah (7 at time of cruise) in one, Greemaw and Grass (Grandparents) in the other.

We're headed to Disneyland a week Friday, to get a quick Disney fix.

Andy

Welcome!

Just in case you didn't know, check out the first page for some great info.

Ikea is five miles from my house. We just go there to eat their Swedish Meatballs.:rotfl2: If you drive up, you may never get home.:confused3

They have MEATBALLS????!!!!!!
Ya learn somethin' new everyday!

I've never been to an Ikea - never lived anywhere near one.
Is it like grazing your way through Costco on a Sat. morning?
Would you like an appetizer to go with your bookshelf?

Calling for mostly rain here now. The kids are very disappointed.:sad2:

You shore people don't have to rub it in!!! :rotfl2:

Us inlanders are getting the sn*w/sleet/freezing rain/rain mix over the next two days. I'd rather have the sn*w over the freezing rain/rain mix any day.

Be safe to all those who will be having rough weather over the next few days.

Six Flags is trying to sell Magic Mountain, but as of now, there are no buyers. There are no plans to shut down though. They even just announced the removal of 2 older coasters to open up space for a new one.

Nah, no grazing, but they do have a cafe. They have scandanavian specialities, hence the swedish meatballs. And very reasonably priced too. There's usually a kid's meal special for $0.99. Sometimes we brave the massive parking lot (worse than Costco) just to have a meal there.

OOORRRR..if we don't get enough snow here, maybe I'll take a few days off work anyway, and I'll drive up and live with some of you Chicago folks!! I've been meaning to take a road trip up to Ikea...How's that sound?!?! :rolleyes1

There's one just down the road from my house. That's how my basement is furnished: "Early IKEA".

:She absolutely loves school and has been an A student, except for conduct. She gets very blabby at times, which DH points out is a trait of mine. ;) I do like to point out to her though, that as much as she brags about having such a big brain, that I expect her to use it more to remember things like feeding the dog, cleaning her room, etc. :rotfl2:

Ditto and how's that last part working out for you? Because it isn't working here... worth a darn. :confused3

Thanks for the info! Directly across from the entrance to both park? clean, inexpensive AND free hot breakfast? Well golly... I know where I'm going to try to stay first on my list!

The Volly ball game will be more high impact than the rugby game. It's touch rugby no tackling and we're on the sand.

It's going to be the last day of a 14 day cruise do ya think anyone but Davids son would be ready for high impact.

Okay cool with the no tackling. He's had an injured knee in the past and we wouldn't want him crippled the rest of the cruise.
He says he's all for it. Doesn't know a thing about rugby but he said he thought it would be fun to learn. :)

...she just has a big head...though you can't tell by just looking at her. When we went to WDW when she was 3 DS got the youth ears but DD needed the adult size for it to fit right. The most annoying thing about it is that it is difficult to get clothes that pull over her head to go on easily. They fit her well once they are on but most sweaters need to be stretched at the neck to help loosen them up a bit so they don't sqeeze her head too much. Anyhow, one thing I found out when researching before the cscan is that there are a lot of people with big heads and their IQs tend to be high. So, DD wants to fill up her big brain with lots of stuff in school to help her be smarter. ;)

I totally understand. Both our boys have to get larger than expected hats. And clothing is hard - it's a good thing their ears are attached so well, or they'd get taken off for sure just getting the shirt over their head. ("Ow. Mommy, my ears!") We've found that easing one ear out at a time seems to help. But V-necks with zips, buttons, or no closures are our favs. And forget the cheap shirts - it's like they save 3 cents on the manufacturing costs by making the neck smaller. :sad2:

Just a clarification on BWPPI's hot breakfast....it's pancakes....that's it pancakes, nothing else...their other option is the continental breakfast, pastries, toast, coffee, juice, fruit. Also, those pancakes are from Captn Kidd's which is adjacent to the hotel. It's the worst place I have ever been too. Warning to all DL visitors, do not go to Captn Kidds. You'll be enticed by the buffet and cheap prices, but there's a reason its so cheap, it's horrible.

Afternoon Andy. Glad the weather worked out in your favor today. :thumbsup2

Hi Jeff, yea I was about ready to pull out the shorts and t-shirts, well maybe not quite yet........:rotfl:

The kids were taking their coats off at the park after school today...and it was barely 40 degrees. I agree...not quite shorts & t-shirt weather YET!

The IKEA parking lot scares me more than trying to pronounce the funky names for all of the furniture products.
