I'm doing OK here Peter, the weather today was absolutely beautiful and it's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow...........:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

My brother Pete's girlfriend just called from the ER of a Jacksonville area hospital. Pete and Marina's 5th month old baby boy had stopped breathing, turned blue and passed out. Please keep mom, dad and baby Charles in your thoughts and prayers. My mom's "friend" Walt had a cornea transplant today, and my mom can't leave him home alone to go to the hospital. When I get updated news, I will post it here.

Andy, that's terrible news. Baby Charles, Mom and Dad and Walt will be in our prayers.

SIDS or sudden infant death syndrome is horrible and it's prevalence is increasing. Whats worse is that reasearch is lagging.

Answering Disfreaks question:

That's the worst part of my job is telling someone that their family member has died. It's a weekly thing for me and after 17 years of doing it day in and day out it has not gotten easier. It's actually become harder for me each passing year. I have no answer for it. Everyone has to develope their own mechanism with dealing with death. It's a very hard topic especially with children as they have no concrete thinking patterns yet.

Happy Birthday Madison!!!

Hello Everyone! I try to read to catch up every now and then, but life has been a little crazy! My DD12 had a friend pass away in August and that was hard for all of us. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in Oct. 06, and from late spring to early summer, she seemed to be doing better. In mid July she started having some problems again, and passed away in August. We took a fall trip to WDW and MNSSHP, and came home to our 13 year old cat who almost died while we were gone. Fortunately after a lot of money later, she improved and is doing remarkably well. We went out of town for a short Christmas break, and came home to a collapsed closet in our master bedroom. Now, we didn't have our home flooded or anything after our record rainfall in early December, but still a mess, and we decided to replace the closet with some nice drawers/shelves/rods, etc., put in new flooring, etc. Needless to say, between the cat and the closet we could have paid for another cruise! Then last night, I got a call from my DS9's teacher and she said that a classmate of his had his sister die from an asthma problem last week. It is so hard to explain to kids why people die. This raised questions from him of if we are just going to die, why are we here? I told him that we are here to help people and do nice things for others and when we go to heaven we can do nice things for people there as well. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to explain this to their kids? It just isn't right when a child dies.
Sorry to ramble, and I realize that I don't really know any of you, but I did catch up on some posts and feel I know you that way. I just saw the pirate zone website and that looks awesome. Thanks for doing that. We are very excited for this trip and are looking forward to planning more. I hope all of you have a wonderful day and enjoy your kids each and every day! I'll check in more often now. Sorry for rambling and thanks for listening!

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm so sorry!
Here's to a MUCH better 2008!!

Hi Everyone. I need to re-introduce myself - I did at the very beginning and since then have only been a lurker not a participator. :confused3 My husband and I will be joining you all on this wonderful trip. Can't wait to get to know you.... from the thousands of posts I've tried unsuccessfully to read - you seem like a mighty lively group.

I just called a local Travelers Clinic to see about the Hep A shots....:scared1:
I was told that all they had at the moment was the Combo A & B. We would each need a series of 3 shots at a cost of $175.00 EACH or $1050.00 I then called the Visiting Nurses Association...Hep. A,series of 2 each at a cost of $60.00 a piece or $240.00. My question is; Do you think that we can do this cruise without the shots?

Another thing: I am known as being a very uptight Mother as far as my girls wearing appropriate clothes. I am completely not getting the inappropriateness of the "Take what you can", Give Nothing Back" and believe me, I would be the one to find fault.;) This may be because we all love PoC movies, and have from the beginning, that I just don't get it. I love the front and back but don't want something that will be taken wrong by someone who sees it. Somebody please give me a hint what their problem is w/ the saying.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all. Just not appropriate for my kid. We aren't huge POC fans, and he's never seen the movies.

Now, if we replaced the skull and bones with a picture of our dogs sneaking up on him to steal his sandwich he was holding - and "Take what you can, Give nothin' back"... THAT would be appropriate. :rotfl2:

Not sure I should mention it, but I'll probably have a car too. Thinking of renting one up here, drive down, then turn in near DL and taking the group bus to the port.

Oh, hey! That's an idea. Might be cheaper then getting airfare for four - and by the time you count up all the too-ing and fro-ing, and waiting in line - probably isn't all that much longer timewise.

Oh! Here we go... All the Northern Californian's can band together and rent a PARTY BUS for the trip down!! :rotfl2:

I think someone taught him the trick that I never could master....something to do with having two windows open at the same time.....:confused3

Oh, so THAT's the secret. Cat's out of the bag now...

I wasn't impressed with it at all since it is really a bunch of animated shorts as you go thru the ride. A lot like what they've done to El Rio del Tiempo. I guess that's a cheap way of putting a ride together. Just stick in a bunch of animation. If I wanted to do that I could stay home & watch toon Disney!

I wasn't all that impressed with The Epcot Finding Nemo ride either. But it really engaged DS6 who kept point and telling them where Nemo was. I think they were aiming at the younger crowd - and they hit it.

Do all/most wine shops have shippers available. I've never seen one in a store and here is how my life goes…I’ll wait to buy one in CA and the entire state will be out of them on 8/15/08. Then I will spend hours of my vacation hunting one down!

I guess class 6’s are hit or miss. Marine Corps ones usually have a great selection.

I WILL get to Napa…just a matter of when. It wo’t be added to this trip. Changing jobs every three years sorta limits my vacation days.

I don't ship a lot of wine. But I'd think so. It's not something they're going to keep out in front - you'd need to ask for one.

Oh, our Class 6 is great for anything BUT CA wine.

You need to negotiate for more vacation. I did that with this job - started off with 4 weeks, cause that's where I left off with at the previous place. The rationale goes something like - I've got x years of experience that I'm bringing to you. With that many years you usually give y weeks of vacation. I'd like y weeks of vacation - the amount apropriate with my experience level. It's easy to get more vacation (doesn't cost anything) - it's the extra $5K they'll bicker over.

Ok, let me see if this works

Amazing! I can't wait to see it in person!

Guess you forgot about getting home? LOL

Nah. He's never going home.

Sorry for rambling and thanks for listening!

  Here's hoping for a better 2008.

I am sorry things have been tough lately.
I had to explain to my 8 yo DD that her classmate and friend died this summer. It was a murder suicide by the Mother so I had to tell her his Mother killed him. It is so hard seeing them face such adult issues.

Good question - I didn't even realize that shots should be considered for this cruise. I have been to all the places except Cartagena and Acapulco

Anyone have further information? I tried to look at the CDC website but it just confused me more

Thanks for the warm welcomes last week! We are excited to be possibly going on this cruise. We are hoping to get a category 6 or higher if space opens up.

I am curious we are paying $9,923.16 for a category 8 for 2 adults and two kiddos who are 10 & 13- no insurance/no transers. What was the rate for this catgory/people combo when the cruise first opened up last year?

~Ingrid

Our Cat.6 for 2 adults was $7926.48. No insurance and transfers on 1 end.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh right about now!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

No updates news on Charles, but we are sitting by the phone waiting to hear from my brother.

I look at it this way, "No news is good news."

Debi, No they are not required. 6732 pages back we hashed through this. You probably should get them if you are adventuring out on your own and partaking in some rural areas and cuisines. The risk is very low for us if you stick to the touristy things and watch what you eat and drink. I brought it up because in my own opinion everyone should probably be vaccinated against these. Kids are now required (in California) to have both of these prior to school. None of us should not have any chance of exposure to B unless you partake in questionable activities. Hepatitis A can be pasted on by contact usually by food. This is one of those "Ounce of prevention" things.
