Stace congrats on the new camera. I was looking at the D40X and the Cannon Xti. I am not one to be carrying around a lot of equipment and therefore went for a bridge camera Olympus SP560. Has a 28-486mm lens with ISO50-6400. I know that I will not get the image quality as you but I don't have room in my suitcase for all of the lenses. I still believe that its not the camera but the photographer.

My spouse has been clammoring for a replacement camera for her - since I seem to have LOST her SD-850. And now we're leaning for the slim and high ISO sort - lke this Fuji 40 something or other. It was on clearance at Costco - only $167 plus there's a $30 rebate! It seems to have a reputation for usable power up to ISO 800 but it goes to 1600. YOUR camera with ISO 6400 as a boost max sounds pretty ... impressive.

Right now I am wavering between the Canon 40D and the rumored FULL FRAME 7D expected in Q2 of 2008. It would be a bridge between the full pro bodies and a 40D with a rumored cost of $1800. Of course, at this stage the talk has a real wispy and vaporous quality to it. Supposedly there is a UPC code filing for it - and the recent price reductions in the current entry level full frame body - the 5D seem to harkon the impending arrival of the 7D. Plus the competition from Nikon suggest the 7D would likely have a certain specification profile too.

At any rate - your Oly looks like a digicam I would be proud to use:

And you're right! It IS the photographer that makes the memorable images. Of course, there IS a minimum threshold of equipment necessary for most images. IE, you can only achieve so much with silver halide powder on a daguerreotype mirror, eh? But wouldn't it be tremendously cool to work with one of these babies?

Roger, I guess I missed your pictures back there somewhere. What camera did you get?
Jay bought me the Nikon D40X this past weekend. Ritz Camera had it on sale, with two different lenses, a bag, photography classes ( which I NEED) and some other things, for $799.
   I thrilled to bits, and can't wait to get someplace fun (like DISNEYLAND!!) to take some good shots.

  Enjoy that camera Stace!!:goodvibes

Hi Gang,
I'm trying to get everything done here in L.A. before I leave on Fri to drive up north to San Francisco. I'll be up there for 3+ weeks - I'll have time to catch up w/friends & family before I head back here for my final "tour of duty" as "Grandma Nanny."

Stacey - sorry to hear about Jay - I read about it just after I bandaged my finger that I whacked w/chef's knife slicing potatoes!! Deep cut too - not in Jay's league though!!

party: party: WELCOME party: party: To all our new crew!!

Oh, Julie - you'll be here in So.CAL while I'm in NoCal - bummer!! I would've liked to get together. Maybe I should try to fit in a visit to NYC before the TOAL??!!

Gotta Run ---- Happy Holidays Everyone!!!

Have a wonderful trip Chris! Merry Christmas.:goodvibes

Happy Birthday Rich!

Merry Christmas, Chris -- and I'm sorry you won't be around when we are in SoCal . . . a trip to NYC sounds like just what you should plan before the TOAL! When I was bantering with Todd today I was thinking about the two of us lounging with books and conversation on deck 4 . . .

Crash, are those lights on your PLAM trees??????????? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

(No, I never forget anything!):cool1:

I think the lights on his PLAM trees are lovely:lmao:

You don't think we will be on the cruise and someone will see a certain type of tree and ask CC "Is that a PLAM tree?"

That is the camera I am strongly considering. Please keep me updated on likes and dislikes.
I have so many of those Ritz class coupons and a class center very close and I still cannot manage to go. I think an investment in that camera might be the kick that gets me there.:)

Happy Birthday Rich...

I took a short cut in delivering a little Cheese (+) Cake to ya.

We are going to do exactly the same thing, however have our fingers crossed for either Asia or somewhere in the pacific. Either would be a lot closer than the Caribbean or Europe for us :) I don't even really care where it goes as long as I'm on it. Heck if it didn't even leave port, I'd be happy :rotfl:

An Asian Cruise is a novel idea. :thumbsup2

Me either........ From time to time I will come across a little snake in the curb meter boxes, my skin crawls everytime I see one.

Although, one time when I was reading the Buisness Book, I opened the lid to one of our pit meters and saw a very large black snake, it must have been 8-10 feet long. I nearly passed out when I saw it. I called a co-worker and got the hook off his truck and was able to grab a hold of the snake and let it go in the field, about 50 feet away, from where I was working. From that moment on, I check out each meter pit before entering.

Snakes.....And we both want to retire to Florida??:confused3 :lmao: :lmao:

She certainly *uses* it alot....... Just remember if they can climb up on it to sit on it.....they can climb up on it to STAND on it....... ;)

Thanks for the warning!!! I guess Butterscotch the horse will have to be adopted by someone else.:rolleyes1

Okay, so a thread with more than 82,000 posts is a bit intimidating, but I"m here to say that we just booked the Eastbound PC cruise! We are beyond excited! We wanted a Cat. 9 but there was only one 11 available. We took it and will continue to look for a 9. If we don't get it we don't get it...we're just thrilled to be onboard! There will be me(43), DH(42), DD(16) and DS(13). :wave2:

Well...

.... may I offer to roll out the RED CARPET in welcoming you to our pleasant little madness here! < wink > actually we're not all engaged in maddening diversions... well... at least Andy is a straight shooter but I don't know about Cheryl and I. And Tom, Andrew and JR... they're all certifiable. assuming we can get Lil'G to sign the committment docs! ;)

So...

I am only taking baby steps!!!!! Remember you are the master!!!

Hey Cheryl...

.. the image ya selected was one of those low capacity server ones. And our viewing of it here on the DIS exceeded its' download limit. SO ya might want ta edit and replace it with something else.

And may I remind you ... I am NOT the Master. Or at least not until I align the senate to grant me power sufficient to declare martial law. Then we'll have to mobilize a clone army and form a DIS Empire! THEN you can refer to me publicly as the Master. a Sith Lord must conceal his (or her) true identity until we can destroy ALL fo the Jedi Knights.

Please forgive me... this animation is much bigger than I usually post - but it seemed entertaining to me. Poor Grandma! And I'll not post any more images or animations until this page turns over so as to not slow the loading of this page any further.

Oh I'm sure there will be plenty of our slang words used on TOAL. You will probably hear me mutter a few 'oh carps'. But I want to know how to say T-****. How do you say *** :confused3 ??? Or do you actually say the word that is covered up? :lmao:

Thanks Michelle for your ....

... good natured encouragement. I was candidly reflecting on the potential for complaints as to my hogging up the bandwidth for my self serving devices. It's not as if I've never been singled out for criticism before, ya kno... And I DO try to be respectful to those less fortunate sorts on dial up ... no snickering intended towards your previous state Cheryl < snicker - snicker - snicker > .... or respectfully, no snickerring intended towards anyone else still on dial up < steady clear silence now > ..... :goodvibes

It's always my pleasure to do my part in supporting your local dental office. Ya gotta keep them teeth in danger of decaying so as to allow our local dentisits to stay in business, eh? Not to mention all those hard working folks over at your local gyms and medical offices that manage our efforts at weight and nutritional management. Of course, you might be like my hyperactive spouse who eats more then most folks at the table yet never gains an ounce. If so ... then my contribution towards destabilizing your otherwise perfectly balanced diet will result in no new business for the health and exercise establishment. :confused3 Shucks!
