Yeah, I was going to say "how does it feel to be the Mom of a teenager now ?", but then I realized I wasn't sure I had the right daughter:confused3

So... what do teen girls do to celebrate their birthdays ?( I have a few more years to go with my daughter).

Depends on the girl -- my oldest (who turned 15 on June 3!) has wanted for the past few years to go out to dinner and a Broadway show with a couple of friends (and her mother as chaperone and financial underwriter!). Katherine wanted to get dressed up and go out to eat at a nice steak place, just the two of us, and then we went on a horse and carriage ride through Central Park at dusk. It was nice.

Yes, the time goes by so quickly . . .

They both have good taste:thumbsup2 Depending on my mood I would've loved either of those:thumbsup2

My DS will turn 14 in December and he wants to take his friends to The Melting Pot and then back to the house for video games and a sleepover (minus the sleep of course;) )

Just for all of you that have been keeping track , I am at the 5 week point of no smoking   , Ive started cutting down on the meds to only once a day and now sometimes I even forget to take that ...I think I am pretty much free from the bad habit , there are times though just for a few short seconds I wish , but then the urge is gone and I am soooooo over it now ...

pirate:

That's great news! :thumbsup2 My mother quit shortly before she died, but she suffered greatly from COPD. Now I'm trying to convince my sister to quit. Out of nine of us siblings, eight of us smoked at one time & six quit. My brother still smokes a bit, but not as bad as my sister. She's in early 50's & I really worry about her. :guilty:

I had a crazy hard aerobics class, perogies for dinner, and now I am enjoying a beer while watching the Tribe beat the Red Sox (0-4 top of the 7th).

It is indeed a good evening.

:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

I gotta say though, the Indians are looking really good. They deserve to win tonight. I don't know what the heck is wrong with the Sox! It's hard to believe they lead the division all year. :sad2:

 How many bars are left on Court Street? There were 21 last time I Shuffled.

Well....According to thecourtstreetshuffle.com, there are still 21 establishments qualified for a shuffle stop. However, a large contingent of those seem to be more food and drink/sports bar/pizza establishments. I was one year behind the grandfathering of the drinking age, so during my tenure, the OU drinking population went from about 75% of drinking age down to about 25%, so that did impact the bar scene.

The long-gone Greenery is now the "Blue Gator" offering "premier Cajun dining, martini and wine bar where you can relax with your friends and have an upscale drink." Can you imagine eating dinner at the Greenery? ...."Um... yes...can I get a pitcher of Brainstompers with my catfish?":rotfl2:

I can't remember the name of the bar that was in the basement next to the Greenery, but I think it's a tattoo parlor now.

The Nickolodean is gone, but there's a BW3 across the street.

Some of the traditional favorite's are still around...like the C.I., Cat's Eye, Junction, Pub, Tony's and the Union.

Ok...how about the drink specials though? Like:

$1 buys a plastic cup that can be refilled with draft beer for 50 cents all night (Pawpurr's)

$1 shots for the Ladies on Wednesday nights (Courtside).

$1 Martini's on Friday Nights (BW3)

OK...

.... since I'm getting some heat for the image sources I've STUMBLED (innocently) upon... I'll lay off the images for a while (a couple of minutes). SO - congrats Mrs Scooby on the fun images! They're entertaining and hilarious!

Oooo.... I had to resist the urge to post an image here.

A special note for Diane

Hey girl, remember that thesis:teacher:

Take Paula's advice, and I'll save you a barstool!

Way to go Todd. That's fantastic news. Keep up the good work.

this has nothing to do with the Cruise, Pirates or Disney but I have to share

Friday was shaping up to be just another day at the checkpoint.
As I was leaving for lunch I saw a man in a wheel chair at the exit waiting to be screened as I looked at him noticed the small gold medal around his neck. (See the picture above).

His name is MSgt. Alejandro R Ruiz (follow this link to see the citation)
http://www.medalofhonor.com/AlejandroRuiz.htm

I was honored to take care of this man and after I finished screening him his son said that they were running a bit behind schedule. They were on the way to a dinner in Dallas to honor Colin Powell. I pushed the wheel chair up to his gate, when we got they were already boarding the aircraft. I took the sergeant and his family down the jet way to the door of his plane. As I was going down the ramp I was asking people to move to one side I got some funny looks until a man wearing a hat that said he was a veteran of the 1st Calvary division He saw the medal and the he started moving people another veteran saw medal and he also started moving more people. At the door to the I was thanked by MSgt Ruiz son he told me that when president Truman hung the medal around his dads neck Truman said “I would do any thing for that medal” to which MSgt Ruiz replied “want to change jobs?”
As I left MSgt Ruiz I saw the first vet explaining to a couple of people what the medal was.

I was able to hold a Congressional Medal of Honor with out getting shot at or blown up most of these medals are awarded posthumously

There are only 22 living WW II recipients. It was my privilege to help this Real Hero

that's a great story, thanks for sharing.

You have no idea how difficult it is sometimes to find "apporpriate" images. Hence, many of my images are not quite appropriate! <chuckles> A near miss in the hand is worth 3 perfect opportunities missed entirely. I will admit thought... that searching for images is sometimes a "journey" all by itself sometimes.

At any rate - my heart is warmed by your muted chuckles and compliments. Thank You, graciously.

OK... I'm being put to work tonight... my spouse has to write a report and she's employing me again - same as she has "used me" as her ghost writer for the past 24 years ever since we met in college. So in a few minutes I'll be taken and put to the grind stone. I'm still sort of in a wierd state from the anti-sea sickness medication i took yesterday. Boy - that new ferry we tried was SMALL... and rough riding to Catalina. It was so bad it knocked out all three girls - and I very nearly tossed my cookies. Alicia let some cookies fly on the ride out. Anyway - I'm not feeling entirely myself today - but OK just the same.

TTFN!

Tom, I love your pics, and get a really big
<chuckle>
out of them.

So in that vein, here's a pic for you...

We booked our airfare today. I was kicking myself for not booking a couple weeks ago when I found a really good price from PHL to LAX. When I went to book, the price doubled!:scared1:

I just found airfare for not too much more than that good price I missed, and we're going to fly into Orange County instead. I heard that it's a much easier airport to navigate, especially with 3 kids and 10 giant suitcases.

Julie, I read your advice about transfers from SNA to DL. Thanks!! :thumbsup2 I'll probably be hitting you up to repeat your ideas when we get closer to the TOAL.

Only six more days and were below 300 days left......... Only 300 long, never gonna get here days......LOL

Mark

Okay, how many days until this thing has to be Paid Off? That's really the only one I'm concerned with. :scared1:

I noticed that the website links to a discount coupon for HOJO's - it is good for 15% off the Best Available Rate. The coupon says "Offer Valid for Reservations Made before Dec 31, 2007". You present the coupon when you check-in. I sent an email to get a confirmation that this means that it is good even if the reservation is made for 2008 and they replied "yes" (I am a little anal because I like to get email confirmations for everything).
We have never been to Disneyland and I am trying to decide between HOJO's and the Tropicana. We want to be within walking distance of the parks, but I do not want to pay to stay at one of the Disneyland resorts because we are there for such a short time and we will not have time to spend using the resort facilities. If anyone has an opinion between these two resorts I would love to hear it.

We'll be staying at HoJo's.

Thanks Mike...

... I started chuckling out loud as my screen scrolled forward your "cookie tossing" image... and my spouse turned and looked at me kind of funny like I was quietly going nuts or somethin'. And - now - I'll resist posting another image in "mock" defense of my "innocence".

Wow.... I'm getting wiggly agitated at NOT posting an image with this. Now I know what CRACK addicts go through when they are in rehab. <chuckles>
