If you've got any spare pixie dust today, I could sure use it. My mom's in the hospital with pneumonia and she's have a terrible time breathing. They keep giving her astma treatments, which I keep insisting that she doesn't have, and she still can't breath without wheezing. She's been in since yesterday and we haven't seen any improvement yet.

And oh yeah, the guilt is building. I feel as if I may have pushed her too hard on the cruise.

OH Monica , I sure hope she is okay , Your Mother is a wonderful women and lots of :grouphug: :grouphug: and pixie dust coming your way from Melissa , Destin, Dylan and myself ....Please if you need to write , you can write me off the board too, you have my email ....

And thanks for thinking of me  ...I appreciate it. I'm more calm so far today than I thought I'd be.

Good luck today, Stace. I'm sure you'll have lots of spare time to read the DIS while you recover.

1) this is not your fault. Pneumonia is an illness, you don't just get it from going on vacation.

2) She's probably being treated with albuterol which will help open up her bronchial tubes so that she doesn't wheeze as much (and that's the same thing they use for ashtmatics).

Actually it does help in some ways, it reduced our Shutters bill, as all our snaps were ruined.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Well, there's a bright side to everything. I suppose.

Thanks Roger. If the doctors would just explain it like that then maybe I wouldn't have gotten so upset. They just kept telling me that she needs to be treated FOR asthma. Not once have they ever explained that the pneumonia is treated the same.

yes treatments are very similar....

I had a severe case of bronchitus in January 2 weeks after xmas.

I came down with it quick and it hurt to breathe and i wheezed all the time.

I ended up with an inhaler (which i've never had to have before) and heavy antibiotics and mucinex and it still took a couple weeks before i didn't wheeze.

There was a couple times when i swear i had so little air that i was going to go to the hospital.

Everyone says posts are a bit wordy, not yours a bit pictury,

Well...

... if I don't populate a posting with images - I have allowed myself to write as I WISH TO ... which can take on novella porportions. Some folks may skip - others may read through. I tend to skim and when i pick up something of interest I read it all the way. And when there's not many pages o ketchup on - then I read it all.

My point - OK - I'll grant you credit for being shorter with that posting compared to others. I missed the complaint on you posting length.

I'm a victim of my own substandard skimming technique...

Can anyone tell.... I'm trying desperately to keep this posting ... brief?

I couldn't find a tooting my own horn smilie, but I wanted you all to know that I got a semi-firm offer from the firm I've been interviewing with. I have to pass one last interview, but we're already talking terms and how to handle the transitions to make it all work

THANK YOU all for the good thoughts & positive energy you sent my way - I'm sure it helped.

You touched a nerve with me today -- we had to cancel a Scout campout this weekend because we had 22 boys signup and only three parents (myself, and two asst. scoutmasters) to drive. My DS11 was majorly upset because it included a trip to the railroad museum. The campout was only 45 minutes away.

But I know a lot of parents in Naperville have 'more money than time', but we are going to have to start excluding boys from campouts (something we hate to do) if their parents aren't volunteering to drive occasionally.

I imagine we're just beginning to get into this sort of thing - as our kids are pretty young. as they grow older we will no doubt encounter more of this parent labor/volunteerism shortage. It's not that I'm getting annoyed - it's more a curiosity now then anything else. Give me a couple more years of this and I might develope more of an opinion. FOr now - I can keep up and my daughter lights up when it's mentioned her Mom coaches the team and her Dad is ref. Same is true of the other kids when we mention their Dad is the assistant coach or ... so and so.

I guess it's an undiplomatic thing to have participating kids excluded if there is insufficient volunteer support from the families involved. Frankly, it sounds like a necessary thing though.

Everyone has to maintain thier careers or otherwise keep the river flowing while its' flowin'. I understand that. It's just a labor of love I guess to do more than is expected for others whom you rarely or never meet - except through having seen their kids play regularly.

Don't be too impressed -- one of my sons had this as an assignment last year some time and we probably spent most of a weekend trying to figure them out.

Ok, maybe be impressed I remembered most of the answers. I do have an excellent memory for useless information.

Now to remember where I left my car keys...

JR... we can get you some help if you like....

Just remember to write the check....

Good evening everyone! Hopefully you have survived Monday!

I wanted to pop in and send good wishes, hugs and a smile to those who need it.

Since I am mostly new, here is a little bit about me:

My family is me, just turned 37. DH, 38. DS15, DD13, DS12, DD10, DD2.

We are a pretty close knit family and we are all having a blast with our late addition. Little Jessie (DD2)is a super happy friendly, funny girl and is completely spoiled by the big kids.

We love to travel. Our trips in 2007 have included a ski trip to Whistler, Spring break in San Francisco and then we took the train down to Disneyland for 4 days. Our summer trip was to Yellowstone (this was our first driving trip since we had little one #5) Stuffing all of us in the minivan and driving 2500 miles (55 hours in the car) was an absolute blast! The kids are getting so big and it was a lot harder to fit us all in the van. With some strategic packing and the car top carrier, I managed to fit all of our stuff for 10 days. I kind of figured that this was practice packing for our Panama canal trip. But as I reminded my husband, we didn't need to pack formal clothes and nice outfits for dinner for this trip. So I have NO idea how we are going to accomplish that for the cruise. We will probably have to take 2 vans to the airport. How crazy is that!

We are going to WDW for an extended weekend at the end of Sept. Only one of the kids know, it is for my daughter's 14th birthday and EPCOTs 25th birthday and to have our first visit 'HOME' as we just joined DVC this year. We are staying at Animal Kingdom Villas.
I think I am going to tell the kids I am picking them up early from school for their flu shots and instead, take them to the airport. Is that evil???

Then we are taking my MIL and FIL to Mexico for my MIL's 60th birthday in November. That will be so relaxing compared to every other trip we have done lately.

Next, I just found out that my son's band will be participating in Disney Music Days in March 2008. So we of course will have to go down and watch him. How exciting for the band!!!!! (and a great excuse for us to go down again so soon!).

Then of course, it is the TOAL! I can't wait!

We have done 4 Disney Cruises before and even the teenagers are fine with leaving their friends for that long because they love the cruises that much!

Nice to re meet y'all!

Poohmom :hippie:
