Adding my 'good luck Stace' to the thread. Hope you'll be up and around in no time, and in the meantime, get a wireless keyboard and keep us informed.

Don't be too impressed -- one of my sons had this as an assignment last year some time and we probably spent most of a weekend trying to figure them out.

Ok, maybe be impressed I remembered most of the answers. I do have an excellent memory for useless information.

Now to remember where I left my car keys...

I used to hunt for mine all the time, now they are always in the cup holder when the car is in the garage.:rotfl2:

You touched a nerve with me today -- we had to cancel a Scout campout this weekend because we had 22 boys signup and only three parents (myself, and two asst. scoutmasters) to drive. My DS11 was majorly upset because it included a trip to the railroad museum. The campout was only 45 minutes away.

But I know a lot of parents in Naperville have 'more money than time', but we are going to have to start excluding boys from campouts (something we hate to do) if their parents aren't volunteering to drive occasionally.

Sorry about your campout for DS. It is frustrating:sad2:
We cancelled our HS football banquet last year, couldn't get $$ collected, responses about who was comming. Out of 100 boys on the team we had less than 30 people say they were coming less then 2 weeks before and we planned for 250. I still had parents call me the night before it was supposed to be to tell me they were coming. I felt really bad for the boys and the coaches. We ended up doing something later just for the seniors, parents and coaches even then quite a few of the players and parents didn't make it.

I am so sorry to hear that!!!
I was a Brownie leader for 2 of my girls....need I say more? Parents loived to say things like *I think you should have meetings more often.* *I think you should have more field trips.*......... But, none of them wanted to take the training (just an hour or two!) and actually HELP me!

:teacher: ...very educational..our life experiences...& one of my
most sucessful interventions...is simply reminding...how valuable..
our experiences can be~~~~dear pdager. :goodvibes

...family dynamics..never goes out of style! :thumbsup2 , have
you seen the new adopt..a kid comm.?..the young black girl opening a
present ...that her adpoted mother gave her...[ a funky swaeter]....
that she was wearing...becuase she had told her "how much" she
had like it. [ just being respectful/nice?] .and the announcer, stating..
"it dosen't matter , adopted kids just want to be  "....kids are
kids..no matter where...and the desire for someone to care will always
be there!

to me, sports have lil'to do with acquiring "points"....their real values...
is in things..like "rader" movie...& when they are a family activity. we
never force our boys..but iam telling you, our oldest- is a "monster'...
& made a great lineman... "you can't move him"-so one would have to go
around him...but he is a very nice young man. :cheer2: , reading how
sports are a struggle....its nice to see those trying to redirect others
back to the real meanings. we pulled jordan out of cheerleading...after
"parents" fighting on the field.

jordan is in the brownies....& her leader....is everything a girl scout....
leader should be..:yay: !

wow, pdager.... , he sounds like a person..who should be your
school ath. director! much like yourself~ :flower3:

i wonder..if he kept in touch?.....with some of his players.....the 2 i was
making reference ..were terry gardnier & dave hamilton.....last year,
our local paper...did a story..on both of them...with the headline...
"we are west portsmouth!".....in a very special way...it was destiny..
for this to have been...portsmouth, was one of cities that begun
professional football....& the first professional night football game. do
you know where the team moved to? "detroit lions"..so while i favor
cleveland...i also like the lions! alex k., and so forth...remember his tv
show? spartan stadium..was rededicated ...to branch rickey...whose
grandson..married my oldes sister...donna fay [ funny?].

i used to  ..my father talk about his football stories...he claimed
to have been an all-stater...but that was before there was a west
portsmouth h.s., so he played for portsmouth....after "milking the
cows"..every morning....now, that's still one of the biggest rivarly in
the state...ports. vs. w.ports...= ports. notre dame, and wheelersburg,
up to waverly...? you know that school? ..they & their coach were
featured....on the espn/& received a special award...on the espy..,
when the coaches from northwest/waverly...got togewhter..& decided
a young man's dream..of scoring a td..was bigger that the game itself...
while his parents [ well his mother,]..was crying tears of joy.

...it is my belief..that..every life has stories to tell....of great insights.
first and foremost...for the person to take a lil'time out & listen. *
where did i learn so much, so soon? i was a paperboy...for years, & alot
of my costumers were way out in the country...so they were isolated
but they loved sharing their lives..and i  listening to them...i
always thought i was doing them a favor..but it was the other way
around....& you wanta "hear" something...strange?...besides all the bullies,
the clicks, all the privileged kids..." these insights"..i shared with
my follow students...* especially the football team..made an very
ordinary...."run of the mill".....the most popular kid in school. the same
stories..the older generations....had lived thru! isn't that interesting?

kinda proves a point..that if we learn the things we already know,
we would indeed be alot smarter..in our daily living.

..i think it is very good, those trying to accomplish alot more then winning
points....& i respect anyone....trying to be a good parent, & helping
others...its not easy going against the grain....but so worth it..in the end.

thanks again, for sharing~ ms. pdager..you are a dear. :flower3:

an offical f.y.i., for justm. :flower3: ..just so you know, i wil

be rooting for your complete recovery.....:rolleyes1 ,except,

i won't be wearing the cute lil'trussles or waving the poms~poms...

[ i already had issues with our neighbors...one even a died -hard
mich. 's fan...boy! they sure are kiling him, to my chargin, :lmao:

....you go, girl! :cheer2: & get healthy! besides..i wanta to come

knocking...on the roy disney's suit...:grouphug: & one lil' pirate: !

Stace: You were in my thoughts this morning.
Sending lot's of PD for a speedy recovery.:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

G'mornin' pirate:s

I'm still alive in case anyone missed me. I stayed away for a while trying to get the whole back-to-school-back-to-working-mom, thing going again.

I can't say I'm ketched up, but I did skim back a bit.

Tina, Jack's DD & Stace - wishing you all a speedy recovery!

Kristina - thanks for volunteering to manage the linked dining! That's a big job. We are Captain's Dining and would love to be linked (me, dh, ds7, ds9)

Andy - my heart just aches for Angelina, you, Hazel, and Ryan's family.

Bip - best of luck with DH job situation.

Todd, Laura, Monica, Chris & everyone else from the Med - awesome photos, I really enjoyed them. I'm glad you all had a great time!

So I know I've missed some other big things, sorry I have't commented, I just skimmed.

Chapter 2 - My New Job

2 weeks and so far so good. I have a real office with a window and everything - overlooking the scenic building across L St. from me, but it's daylight. The people seem great. I love working someplace where people laugh on a regular basis. I get to hire my own assitant, which is a big bonus. Hey Joel & Grumpy - my organization only has 25 people in the national office (40 total) and I'm not the only Bobcat! I thought that was pretty cool.

Chapter 3 - VA/DC

Still not our cup of tea, but we are tying to make the best of it. The boys were excited to go back to school. They met some kids at the bus stop & have plans to get together with one of them this weekend. We haven't found Cub Scouts yet, but hockey starts next week for the boys. DH & I haven't found teams yet, but I have a few leads.

I had a blast last night. There is a roadskating group in DC that meets at the White House a few times a week for a group skate. I work about 3 blocks away, so I joined them last night. There were about 30 people & we did 10 miles. I was in total tourist mode. We passed the White House, Capital, Supreme Court, circled the Mall (lots of Smithsonian bldgs.), Washington, Lincoln, & Jefferson Memorials. It was pretty surreal to see all of that on skates in less than an hour and a half! Then beer & pizza in a pub that doesn't mind 30 people wearing in-line skates!

Chapter 3 - Pirate Re-Hitching & Cruise Stuff

I saw this mentioned again. I had the idea about a million pages back. I think it would be great fun to do before dinner on Pirate Night on Deck 7. It would require anyone who wants to participate to be ready for dinner early (remember Todd: rum and monkey paws do not mix). We could have pirate vows (ummm guidelines). "I promise to love you in rum, and when the rum is gone. Why is the rum always gone?" etc...

Anyway, if there is interest I'll volunteer to chair that task force. I think it would be fun & I hope I can find a few volunteers to write the vows (ummm guidelines) with me.

Also, has anyone else thought that we are going to need our own Navigator? Not having access to a copier onboard, I thing we might need something that covers the whole cruise. What Pirate activities are when, who volunteered to be in charge, where to meet, etc. I think I can put something like that together a week or so before the cruise & put a .pdf on the site for everyone to download and print before they leave. Just a thought - we have 11 months to decide.

For those of you who made it to the end of this post...I salute you!

Your job sounds like it's going great ! That's half the battle. Great idea on our Navigator.:thumbsup2

I tried last night,but I couldn't get into the Chat Room! :confused3

I got into chat but wasn't there long. I was suppose to come back after :laundy: but fell asleep.:rolleyes1

If you've got any spare pixie dust today, I could sure use it. My mom's in the hospital with pneumonia and she's have a terrible time breathing. They keep giving her astma treatments, which I keep insisting that she doesn't have, and she still can't breath without wheezing. She's been in since yesterday and we haven't seen any improvement yet.

And oh yeah, the guilt is building. I feel as if I may have pushed her too hard on the cruise.

Uck, Math!!!! :scared1:

Ditto lol
Since I am mostly new, here is a little bit about me:

My family is me, just turned 37. DH, 38. DS15, DD13, DS12, DD10, DD2.

We are a pretty close knit family and we are all having a blast with our late addition. Little Jessie (DD2)is a super happy friendly, funny girl and is completely spoiled by the big kids.

We love to travel. Our trips in 2007 have included a ski trip to Whistler, Spring break in San Francisco and then we took the train down to Disneyland for 4 days. Our summer trip was to Yellowstone (this was our first driving trip since we had little one #5) Stuffing all of us in the minivan and driving 2500 miles (55 hours in the car) was an absolute blast! The kids are getting so big and it was a lot harder to fit us all in the van. With some strategic packing and the car top carrier, I managed to fit all of our stuff for 10 days. I kind of figured that this was practice packing for our Panama canal trip. But as I reminded my husband, we didn't need to pack formal clothes and nice outfits for dinner for this trip. So I have NO idea how we are going to accomplish that for the cruise. We will probably have to take 2 vans to the airport. How crazy is that!

We are going to WDW for an extended weekend at the end of Sept. Only one of the kids know, it is for my daughter's 14th birthday and EPCOTs 25th birthday and to have our first visit 'HOME' as we just joined DVC this year. We are staying at Animal Kingdom Villas. I think I am going to tell the kids I am picking them up early from school for their flu shots and instead, take them to the airport. Is that evil???

Then we are taking my MIL and FIL to Mexico for my MIL's 60th birthday in November. That will be so relaxing compared to every other trip we have done lately.

Next, I just found out that my son's band will be participating in Disney Music Days in March 2008. So we of course will have to go down and watch him. How exciting for the band!!!!! (and a great excuse for us to go down again so soon!).

Then of course, it is the TOAL! I can't wait!

We have done 4 Disney Cruises before and even the teenagers are fine with leaving their friends for that long because they love the cruises that much!

Nice to re meet y'all!

Poohmom :hippie:

Hello :) A little bit about me, I am 43 DH ( Chuck ) is 49 and I have a DD who is 14. She will be turning 15 on cruise.........I also have a DS who is 17 but he won't be joining us on this cruise.

Hey Poohmom,
I'm a little new here too. I lurk more than I post, most of that is due to having a cruise in Oct. so I am planning for that right now. I did Magic Music Days at Disneyland in 1988! I had a blast. It was so cool seeing what the backstage looked like, then marching down main street was well the start of my Disney obsession. I hope you son has a blast.

A little about me:
Only my Dh and I will be cruising this time around. It will be our 20th anniversary, and our second time on the Magic. We are looking forward to doing the adult activities on board. We have 2 children, DS is 18 and DD is 14. Looking forward to meeting everyone. As soon as our October cruise is over I will be posting and hopefully getting to know everyone better.
Becky

We did a cruise without the kids in 06. It was the first cruise without them and boy were we surprised how much stuff there is just for " Adults " You will have a GREAT time. :thumbsup2 Nice way to celebrate your anniversary.

Sorry to hear this Monica, try not to feel guilty. I know it's easier said then done but being abroad or on the airplane she could have picked up anything. It's not your fault.

Now, THERE'S a surprise! :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I had noticed that. Actually, it makes me kinda grin to see his photos & wonder how hard he had to work at not smiling :goodvibes

.

Actually it does help in some ways, it reduced our Shutters bill, as all our snaps were ruined.

I will have to ketchup later.:surfweb: I need to lay down.
Cheryl I did get your message. We will :chat: sometime this week. Hope you had a safe trip back home.

:offtopic: Just thought I would pass on if anyone collects Fenton glass.........After 102 years in business the company is closing :sad2: Some of Chuck's family members collect so I feel lucky to get some pieces from QVC for Christmas.
