Better stop messing with your siggie, or you may lose your well protected sword.
I lost my tags once...it wasn't pretty begging to get them back.

No I wasnt even going to go into that area , but now I cant even get back my old Siggy ??? Did they change rules or something ...I just dont understand ..

pirate:

Captain...there seems to be something missing from your signature now. ;)

I've been trying to update my signature and my avatar and it won't let me. :confused3

Back from Seattle after a long weekend with my family. We got to visit the EMP (Experience Music Project) exhibit on Disney & Music - fun, but small. Now to ketchup.

pirate:
TAKE WHAT YA CAN!

Give Nothing Back!!

Congrats on your pirate: , Mike.

Leave for WDW and the Magic in the AM. Once I get back I should be able to spend a little more time planning this cruise. See everyone on the 15th. Lois

I'm sure you're having a great trip. Safe travels.

I leave for my 1st Disney cruise tomorrow. Board the Wonder on Sunday. I am so nervous. I just know I did not pack something important. Checked over a few packing lists on here so I know I got the big stuff.

Coral, I'm sure you had a wonderful trip. I doubt that you missed anything important. You'll have to tell us about it when you have time.

I don't know what "par masomenos" means - hope it's nothing inappropriate...

Nah... it means that the production was put on by someone (or some company named Masomenos. Thank my high school French teachers...

PIRATING. Happy (somewhat belated) Birthday.

Update, Ryan's body was found this afternoon.

Oh, Andy, I wish there were something we could to do to help those affected by Ryan's death. I'm glad he's not still out there somewhere.

Well we are home and have stories to tell , but not tonight , we were delayed out of Orlando , missed conections in Atlanta and our bags didnt arrive when we finally got to Vegas ....Had a FANTASTIC time and met some great people ....Rachel , CD had a nice suprise for me the last day and almost made me cry ...Will fill you in with details tomorrow ...were whipped but were home ...

pirate:

Hurrah for the pirates, it sounds like you had a great trip. Yay for Rachel, too. Hope your bags have found you.

My guess earlier in the week was right on. My surgery will be on the 10th of September, at noon.

Here's some random pixiedust: for you Stace - I hope all goes well.

A prayer today and a drink on the cruise and hopefully all feet concerned will heal. Jack

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: OK, funny man, you got me.

Spirits are mixed. By next week we should know the course of treatment. Thank you for your concern. Jack

Here's hoping all goes well for your family. I'll be thinking good thoughts about it.

Okay Monica (got2travel) and I were talking about this at dinner one night on the Med Repo and thought it would be a cool idea and something that no one has done before ...Since alot of us are doing characters from the POTC movies and this whole cruise is around a Pirate theme , we thought it would really be cool to do a Pirate Picture by the Dutchman on Castaway Cay , I will arrange it with shutters , But I want to see how many would be interested in doing this ....I think it would be awesome to have us all walking off the ship to do the pic ...I know it will take some of your time away from Castaway Cay , but I promise it will be very little and worth it in soooo many ways ...

So what say you ?? I say AYE

pirate:

Oh, we're in (assuming our costumes fit in the luggage). I might even make something new for the trip if I have time. That's an AYE from our family.

Brendan and I got engaged in WDW this past Saturday!!!!!

pirate: ing to say CONGRATULATIONS!!!. Are you getting married on the ship???

As for Mr. I-just-showed-up-every-guy-on-the-DIS....thanks  thanks a lot!

Not every guy - DH proposed in Palo over 6 years ago. But he does get points.

Happy Birthday Ryan

Another pirate: to say HAPPY Birthday!

Another Late diner checking in :cool1: :cool1:

I was thinking the same thing Todd. Are we the only ones in Captains Dining? :confused3

We're Early Seating. Are we planning on linking? It seems like there are a lot of us.

Hey everyone....I'm back but not feeling well...seems as if I brought some kind of bug home with me. My body has been aching all weekend and I'm nasueas (sp) today.

...

One of these days I'm going to have to backtrack and check out Roger's virtual tour. I heard it was awesome.

Sorry you're not feeling well, Monica. Hopefully it will pass soon. As for the Virtual cruise, I think Tom moved it all over to the web page, so you can visit whenever you need a fix.

Yo, Captain! Harley wanted to say Ahoy and welcome back!

A 1.5TB personal RAID? Outstanding! :thumbsup2
You wanna adopt a "kid"?

Your plan seems sound and being an array, you won't have to worry about backups and such (although with that much data, a 4mm DAT might be best, we use them for workgroup backups and then send them to the vault)

As for CD or DVDs. The techheads over at www.CDRlabs.com have consistently ranked Taiyo Yuden as #1 when it comes to all things that matter--seek performance, chemical stability of the substrate layer, data integrity, longevity etc. Some one once said even the worst TY disc will keep its data longer than the best made mass-market discs (ie Memorex, TDK, Sony, Staples brand)

lightroom_boxshot_left.jpg

I've taken near 60,000 digital images. They are broken out losely into files titled by YEAR, MONTH, SUBJECT. I am a painfully simple guy. I tried using photoshop LE and found it confusing and far too elegant for a hack like myself. SO - I just used the FREE utility on the my XP OS notebook... that is ... until I got my new notebook computer. And now that has Picassa. I find that these free tools are like childrens' toys i terms of image manipulation compared to photoshop LE and the full version, Adobe Lightroom or... the "big gun" application (supposedly) Aperature which is only good on a MAC (supposedly).

I recently tooled around with Aperature and downloaded a beta sample of Lightroom - and as such I am in mild envy of these elegant workflow enhancing tools. When I get my 40D I'm going to start shooting in RAW + JPEG mode. My storage needs are going to explode! However, what I'm looking for is the image perfection achievable with RAW images ... plus the recoverable manipulation process. Eventually I'll switch over to just RAW.... that is .... IF I possess enough processing power in my the new notebook computer with Lightroom... the likely choice I'll switch to. I am not ready to go MAC just to process my images.

Aside from that - I am also going to buy an extrenal RAID array with 1TB total - or more. I filled 80MB with the 60,000 images (Actually 50,000or so). SO ... if I go RAW at 10.1 MP versus the 3-6MP JPEG of the 60,000 I already have .... then it's gonna be a certainty I'll exhaust my current storage capacities of 250MB extrenal + 160MB on the notebook - which exist in imperfect DUPLICATE form on these two drives. THE 1TB RAID will of course be divided into 500MB twins. SO.. I am seriously looking at an empty RAID box which I saw today from a local FRYs' electronics. It was $129 and would take 4 drives and includes RAID settings for ZERO and ONE (auto duplicating or single in line storage). Of course, a 4 drive RAID array with the current max drive sizes I know of ... 750MB ... would give me up to 1.5 TB of storage in duplicate!!! AND this is realistic with the free fall price reductions in storage we've seen in recent years.

SO... I thought I would toss in (in temporary conclusion) that I used to store everything on CDRs. Well... a couple of years ago I read warning discussions as to the risk of CDR failure over time. AND ... the delamination risk for CDRs that were written upon by permanent SHARPIE. Well... some of my CDRs were in fact written upon by SHARPIES. I was panic state as I went through and inspected all my CDRs. Which were all made in DUPLICATE! And indeed... a couple of CDRs were damaged and ONE had delaminated. AND the delaminated one was NOT made in duplicate. AND ... as luck would have it - THAT CDR was one that was requested for copies by my sister in law. It had photos of her impromptu wedding reception (yes, impromptu) where I had the ONLY photos in volume of the event. I could only recover some of the photos from her wedding series on the CDR ... and the lost photos were of her reception. SO... all she had now were the live prints I had made and given her. Later I came to realize the duplicate CDR I traditionally made was actually GIVEN to her when I gave her the live prints and enlargements. She apparently misplaced the CDR duplicate which I gave her. oops...

So... if you've got your images on CDRs or DVDRs... then the rated life of cheap no - name CDRs is supposed to be about 25 years on average with good treatment. If you bought the expensive GOLD foil CDRs and took meticulous care of them - then supposedly you have over 75 years of life. AND compare that to negatives and professional quality prints.... with near 100+ years. The endura supreme paper prints I make have a 200 year life as rated by Kodak ... if they are stored in a cool dark place. AND a 100 year life if exhibited under ideal circumstances (I think) in the home. AND... a 5 year life under commercial exhibition conditions which were less then ideal (direct light or sun). NOW THAT is durable!

SO I used duplicate extrenal hard drives to store my collections. I have a 75GB drive which was filled and I have a 250 GB western digital drive which FAILED 3 months after I bought it. Which I recently had repaired. AND I have little confidence in it - so I'll be replacing it some time in the near future with a RAID array. Then I'll wipe it and resell it or ??? or I'll use it as a door stop on our TOAL.

OK... that's enuf for now. Probably way too much by some standards.

TTFN!

Yeah! Diane I am glad you are still on (and I see Disneyvegas is around too)

I wanted to say this while people were on.

Brendan and I got engaged in WDW this past Saturday!!!!!

Awwwww........he sure has some beautiful brindle going there.

Just tell him next time he says "ahoy"..not so close to the screen. After I nearly jumped out of my seat, I had to wipe the nose snobbers off my screen. :goodvibes

Woot!

What a great banner... I'd love to do something like that, but I'm sure I don't have the tech skills to sort it out.

Man, is it August yet?
