Hey everyone...

Need good thoughts and prayers....

I got a call from my mom today that my uncle/godfather has died.....

Don't know what else to say.....

Chrissie

So sorry for your your loss Chrissie. :grouphug:

I think I'm finally back among the living. The surgery went well, so I'm told....all wrapped in big huge bandages for now. Will get a cast put on on Monday...still non weight-bearing...and then 2-3 weeks after that, I'll get a walking cast/boot.
The pain isn't too bad, more uncomfortable than anything. The worst thing is that I've been terribly nauseus. Not the best way to lose weight.

:cool1: :cool1: She is back!

Glad to hear that everything went well Stacey. If the nausea is a big thing, there are drugs for that. If it is a small thing Ginger Ale. Anyway good to see you on the mend.

Thanks for TomB for sugessting I try to clear the waitlist for Captains Dining.

I am in!

Hmm, I can't remember the last time I posted on this thread....somewhere back in February, I think. LOL. Back then, it was moving waaaaay to fast for me to keep up. I took a break from the Dis to work on my life (job hunting, mainly!), and now I'm back. And I have great news...I'm interviewing on Monday :woohoo: for a position in Melbourne, Florida, which is about an hour from Disney. If I get the job (and I really, really, REALLY want this job, because it's perfect for me!), I'll finally be able to justify getting an annual pass, and the odds go up considerably that we'll be able to go on the TOAL cruise (in my current position, we'd have to cancel because of the college schedule next August would keep me from going). Plus, I'll get an unexpected dose of Disney this weekend, since we're flying into Orlando and going to hit DTD for lunch on Saturday night before heading to Melbourne for apartment shopping and familiarizing ourselves with the area. Cheers, everyone! I'm off to catch up on the last few pages of the thread, and jump right into the conversation! :goodvibes

Welcome Back! Jump right in. Glad to hear about your job prospects.

OK gals need an opinion Seems my OCPD is kicking in,must be my cruise coming up in less than a month, but......I noticed that there were 2 formal nights on the last PC cruise so I am assuming it will happen again. Would it be a no no to wear my absolutely gorgeous, very disney cruisish, formal gown on both nights? Also is there dry cleaning on board? I will be doing the 5 dayer afterward and might want to get it cleaned after the second night. Trying to do the less is more attempt when it comes to the packing.

Unless you're a really messy eater, you may not need to clean your dress anyway. I'm planning on changing after dinner to try & preserve clean clothes & keep warm (if the a/c is a bit harsh). I'm in a similar predicament as travelling from the UK, packing is a challenge & I have 2 dresses (both unworn) & I can't decide if I should take both - only 11 more months to mull it over!!!

Hey Tom31!

I emailed my TA - and was told my party of 30 or so folks would have NO difficulty getting transferred into the Captains' dining rotation? I am just wondering slightly about this. Now, don't get me wrong... I look upon myTA as being pretty good at taking care of things in a timely and professional manner. <chuckles> However, I <snif> can't confirm we're in or not with the folks in the Captains' dining rotation. And - I might add that my request to my TA places the highest priority upon having my party seated together on large dining tables - preferably 2 large tables for us if possible. So I don't know if that will be possible in our Captains' dining rotaton.

pctc256_b.jpg

At any rate - I'm here at the hotel this morning listening to Paul & Linda McCartney and Wings greatest hits... currently "Uncle Albert". I don't know if I had mentioned previously (actually I think I had not) that my spouse dug up an MP3 player her company gave her at a meeting some time ago for me to play with - after I mentioned thatI was interested in getting one for my books on CD (and music).

Well... as luck would have it she dug it up ... admonishing she had been given this "expensive" MP3 player a year or two earlier. It was a seemingly well made Well made RIO MP3 player. I proceeded to wipe the memory of the pre-loaded medical dissertations from it and use the utility software to upload my book to it - and I thought it curious that it hung up after loading the 2nd CD. On closer examination I was surprised to find it had a FULL MEMORY! I eventually noticed the capacity figures in the software utility - and the player apparently has a capacity of 128K!

So I sort of played with it as is for a day then decided 128K was not nearly enough storage. Next day I was resuming my casual shopping for MP3 players when - while wandering Toys R Us for other reasons - I noticed they had a bunch of MP3 players on clearance... with an additional 30% off. After a few minutes evaluation I settled on a 1GB MP3/USB flash drive/etc. multi-purpose player which I picked up for the Princely sum of twelve bucks! It's not rechargable... so I ended up buying some NiMH AAA batteries ... but I can use the AAAs for any number of other things as long as I don't lose em'.

Zune of left - Ipod on right
zune-vs-ipod-g.jpg

And now - I have capacity for more than I can get through in a week... plus space for several CDs worth of music. I can't carry a ton of CDs in data and music - but it is sufficient for now. I imagine one day I'll tire of this and get a player with an LCD screen and 4-30GB of storage. I was just admiring the new 4GB Ipod ($149 and a minimalist squarish shape) and contrasting it against the 30GB Zune device. And as yet I have no clear definition of what I would be hapiest with. However, I will say I am inclined towards tiny tiny players as I am carying enough junk in my pockets with keys, Cellphone, wallet, etc.. And now I am beginning to appreciate the appeal posed by the multifunction phones have which combine capabilities. In fact, I paused the other day to admire the Iphone ... and at the time wondered who on Earth would want to drop $600 (was that how much it was???) for the thing? Granted, it has a very elegant design and slick intoxicating interface with orientation controlled ergonomic design - but it sure seemed expensive at the time. AND NOW... I was wondering ... at the recently reduced prices and the combined function of a zune player with cell phone ... plus internet access .... and the slick interface ... it begins to emerge as a .... value. In the wallet and in minimizing the load in my pocket!

iphone.jpg

So... no, I am not about to get an iphone primarily because our family and several key business assciates are all on verizon intentionally due to the free airtime deal between verizon customers. AND, of course the iphone is strictly an AT&T phone. RATS!

I guess its' just as well - since I have no need for a $400 phone - and that is what they cut the price to... on thier 8GB model? But shoot... if it were a 16 or 32GB model and had verizon as an option ... I think I would be taking a very LONG look at it - at about $300 or so. And at $150 I'm sure we would have had 2 of these for my spouse and I, as would everyone else among our family and key contacts.

And ya-knooo.... (to quip BIP) .... the way technology life cycles go it won't be long before the current iphone (and its' inevitable contemporaries) will have double the storage at 1/4 the price. Consider.... Moores' Law:

GordonMooresOriginalGraphFrom1965.PNG

Moore's Law describes an important trend in the history of computer hardware: that the number of transistors that can be inexpensively placed on an integrated circuit is increasing exponentially, doubling approximately every two years. The observation was first made by Intel co-founder Gordon E. Moore in a 1965 paper.[1][2] The trend has continued for more than half a century and is not expected to stop for a decade at least and perhaps much longer.[3]

Almost every measure of the capabilities of digital electronic devices is linked to Moore's Law: processing speed, memory capacity, even the resolution of LCD screens and digital cameras. All of these are improving at (roughly) exponential rates as well. This has changed dramatically the usefulness of digital electronics in nearly every segment of the world economy.[4] Moore's Law is a driving force of technological and social change in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Moore's original statement can be found in his publication "Cramming more components onto integrated circuits", Electronics Magazine 19 April 1965:

“ The complexity for minimum component costs has increased at a rate of roughly a factor of two per year ... Certainly over the short term this rate can be expected to continue, if not to increase. Over the longer term, the rate of increase is a bit more uncertain, although there is no reason to believe it will not remain nearly constant for at least 10 years. That means by 1975, the number of components per integrated circuit for minimum cost will be 65,000. I believe that such a large circuit can be built on a single wafer.[1] ”

The term Moore's Law was coined around 1970 by the Caltech professor, VLSI pioneer, and entrepreneur Carver Mead.[5][2] Moore may have heard Douglas Engelbart, a co-inventor of today's mechanical computer mouse, discuss the projected downscaling of integrated circuit size in a 1960 lecture.[6] In April 2005, Intel offered $10,000 to purchase a copy of the original Electronics Magazine.[7] David Clark, an engineer living in the UK, was the first to find a copy and offer it to Intel.[8]

In 1975, Moore projected a doubling only every two years. He is adamant that he himself never said "every 18 months", but that is how it has been quoted.[9] The SEMATECH roadmap follows a 24 month cycle.

Ginger ale and ginger snaps....nope..right back up. My ex son in law is a Sr Pharmacy Tech....going to school to be one of the "big guys"....anyway, he brought me some anti-nausea meds...that came right back up. I think it must have been the anesthesia and it just really needed to get out of my system. I managed a couple of soda crackers yesterday and a couple of ginger snaps....and then finally some dry toast and a scrambled egg last night.
Need to get my strength back in order to drag myself around one one leg. Now if I only had a peg, a patch and a parrot!!pirate:

I have to say, they do some pretty awesome stuff these days. Underneath all my bandages is a cooling system. I'm attached by hoses to a small cooler that we keep filled with ice, and every so many minutes, the contraption pumps cold water under my bandages to help keep the swelling down. I'd like to thank the person who invented this amazing thing!! It really feels good when the cool air is on it. Way better than trying to pile enough ice bags to get all the way through the bandages.

This is the device if you're curious:

Guess what?!? This is my 250th post on this thread!

I don't have anything profound to say - I think my brain is still trying to cope with my PTO volunteering :confused3 :rotfl:

I'm wondering ... are there any other grown-up princesses out there who would love to play dress up. I'm thinking of being a "princess" one of the formal nights and wearing a tiara and maybe even gloves (like Cinderella!) with my formal dress. How crazy am I? Can a 42 (by then 43) year old be a princess or will everyone be snickering behind my back? Anyone else have a secret wish they could dress up like the little girls do?

Shhh - Actually, I did dress up as a princess when I got married - it probably wasn't obvious to most, but I helped design my dress (my mother made it) and it definitely was influenced by my dreams of being a princess!

Pamela

Me...me....me.....I'd do it.....already have a tiarra, just need the gloves.

Yes, Happy Rosh Hashanah to any and all of our Jewish friends. Party like it's 5768!

5768... i saw it but had ta run...

I was hoping someone would get the joke. It is a bit obscure and my humor is usually more mallet-to-the-head-kind.

(Or is that what people want to do to me when they read my humor? I get the two confused).

dcr0357l.jpg

Don't get "two" confused oherwise we'll have to obtain counseling for you to contend with the dual personalities. Or, forgive me ... are we dealing with more than 2 here?

And remember... to take it easy with the hand lotion the next time ya whip out that mallet!
