We are kind of feeling a double whammy here today, not only remembering 9-11-01, but today would have been Angelina's friend Ryan's 18th birthday. Angelina said many tears were shed at school this morning when they announced that it was Ryan's birthday.

I read online where many of Ryan's friends are gathering at the river tonight to wish him a Happy 18th.

We had a mid-ship cat 9 on the Wonder once and the creaking of the panels drove me nuts one trip.

I've never had that trouble further up levels on the ship (deck 5,6,or 7)

You would hate being in a Cat 1 then! LOL! Alot more wood to creak! :rotfl:

OK...

... I have what I would consider good news. I've been a bit quiet for themost part about something that happened recently... I was hit in Honolulu while driving my rental car - by a hit and run driver who evaded police that were maybe 40 yards behind him. The concerns we had were what it would cost us in #1) increased annual insurance rate cost, #2) deductible, and #3) the charge for time while the rental car was out of service.

Well most of the result are in - and that which is not confirmed seems to be almost certain now. And the short story is... the damage to the car is only $1,866.80.... not the $4000-5000 I was expecting. And the state of Hawaii (and most states according to the Dollar rent-a-car adjuster) forbids rental car companies from charging us for the days a car is out of service. So ZERO cost there. And as for the deductible - it is as we expected. And with the total damages so low - less my deductible - the presumption is my insurance company should NOT increase my annual insurance rates. And if they do = it should be minimal. And I'll complain loudly if they do.

So I am really pleased to have contained the costs so well. AND - now if only I had used a "GOOD" charge card then I might have had my deductible covered as well. You see... I just found out my "Platinum" debit card was good for .... nothing! It has high charging and cash advance limits - but NO benefits. My lowly silver Discover card would have covered the deductible asI understand it. RATS! My Platinum card is a JOKE when it comes to special features (none).

Anyways... I've got Mr. & Mrs. Smith playing on HBO cable now and the wife just crashed into the husband's car from the side. That was just like how I was hit in Hawaii... only different car types were involved. How curious....

OK... I gotta go now.

<edited in> I just got off the line from my Insurance company adjustor - and he said IF they reach the other driver or owner of the other car - and can confirm he has insurance then I won't have to pay my deductible! And even if the other driver or owner responds that they have no insurance then they will not charge me the deductible because I was a victim (this make any sense?). In cases where I am the victim they sometimes waive the deductible without any other consideration! AND ... he says that this sounds like a non-chargable incident which should result in no change to my insurance rates - especially with no other acccidents, moving violations or claims in my history! So... I can only think this sounds too good to be true - to have no deductible to have to pay... potentially. But if it is so - then I won't complain. I certainly spend enough on my property and casualty insurance!

DH got his CC card yesterday and he tried to get on the website. Didn't work. Will have to check it for myself but this is just another episode in the saga of the cards:confused3 I may have to get Cheryl to straighten it out for me;)

:rotfl: :rotfl: You know they probably have her on a list now! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Tom, I am glad that your rental car has not turned into the nightmare that you were expecting. I think a little bit of pixiedust: must have blown your way. Also that is great about the savings on your cruise. Sometimes it isn't so much the amount just the savings that can make us happy.

When Alan was hit a couple of years ago by a lady that didn't have insurance, ours ended up paying minus the deductible. We ended up taking her to court and we received it within 30 days. I never expected to see it, and was pleasantly surprised when the check arrived in the mail.:)

Yup...

.... See Paula! A check in the mail is not always a worn out joke anymore - <steady radiant grinnin'> - and I am pleased to hear of the good experience you had with Alans' accident. This a tribute to the good nature which prevailed in the unlucky woman who hit Alan.

I think today has been a nice day. We saved a little more money on the Costa cruise we just booked... and today all the insurance expenses pertaining to the rental car accident seem to have magically faded to insignificance. I finally reached Alicia live line and updated her on the latest with the details fleshed in. She's really very happy with the day ... in an understated way - she asked if I had finished clearing some foliage on the side of the backyard .... and I said no, it's been too hot. She gave me the briefest moment of silence - which I could simply visualize. Then I interjected that other chores had been addressed in substitution of the outside work.

At any rate, I have to run now... I'm covering for friends who have to both work a little late tonight. So I'm picking up thier little boy from pre-school and we're gonna entertain the tyke. We're gonna get a brief taste of what 3 little ones would have been like to have as a family.

Since it's shaping up into a nice day in spite of other considerations (9-11) I'm posting some happy pictures. Above is one right after we arrived in Honolulu with the fresh leis at the airport, and the other is of me getting into the rental car with a huge XL "rainbow shaved ice with ice cream inside and snow cap (sweetened condensed milk) on top", and below is one of Hananuma Bay (possibly misspelled) as we are walking down to it from the visitors' center.

TTFN!

Thanks! Looks very interesting. Hmmmmm, but a HUGE commitment if I even had a snowball's chance with 10,000 applicants. A free trip sounds like a good incentive though. To apply or not to apply?

Well I am not a mom. BUT I applied! Doesn't hurt right?

Chrissie

Oh yeah, our school is exactly like this. you have to know someone to be able to participate.

when my DS 10 was in first grade I got a message on my answering machine that went like this: Hi Mrs. --- your turn has come up to participate at school. The Thanksgiving feast is next week. I see here that you work full time. We have lots of moms who would like the opportunity to attend the event, but it is your turn. So, if you can't make it because of work there are lots of moms to take your turn. If I don't hear from you today, I'll give your turn away.:sad2:

So I call the woman back & tell her I wouldn't miss the opportunity. What about work , she asks? Well, they do let us have a few hours off per year.

Now every Thursday I have a standing meeting with my boss and a few others. I called him & said re-schedule the meeting. I'll come early, stay late but I'm going to the first grade TG feast come He-- or high water.

I get to the feast & this same woman comes up to me and says, we have too many moms here, you can leave :scared1: I looked her square in the eye and said tell one of the other moms they can leave. I'm staying.

No offense to any SAHM's here, but dont you just love the gall of some of these women????

A few weeks ago when I was dropping my kids off at camp... I talk to several of the moms briefly at drop off that I know. So they were talking about something they got together to do with the kids, no big deal to me since I work I cant make these get togethers.
So one says to me "Oh I dont want you to feel like we left you out, but you work right?? I called a few times to invite you but thought you were out shopping"

She lied right to my face. Why even bring it up?

Hello did this woman never hear of CallerID or answering machines? I would have know if she called.

Crash glad to hear you're getting some decent news today! :thumbsup2

Well like Tom said...it appears to be open to anyone. I haven't decided yet but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for ya! :goodvibes

Speaking of school volunteering....just back from our first PTO meeting of the year. Luckily our school is usually very welcoming to anyone that wants to help out so the members were quite excited to see a very large turnout tonight. I help out where I can & it's very much appreciated.

I also haven't accomplished much today, because I've been glued to the TV watching all the 9/11 memorials. Very sad! :sad1:

On 9/11 I had just dropped DS off to preschool & I was lying on the couch reading a book, which was unusual for me. Not the reading part, but I am usually watching television while drinking coffee during the AM, but I wasn't that day. Anyway, DH called & told me to put on the news. Like everyone else, I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. After watching for a while, I just had to turn it off. I went outside & sat on my front stairs to drink my coffee just to feel some sense of normalcy, but it was so eerily quiet. We live right near a small airport so to not hear any planes was just creepy. What a day that was! :guilty:

After reading all your 9/11 stories I was going to go take a pic of the tribute lights from my window to post, but with the bad weather all I can see is a dot of light in the clouds.

If it clears at all b4 I go to bed I'll try to post it for you.

Rain all day in NY. The weather seemed somewhat appropriate for the mood of NYC, and I guess the rest of the country.

Jack how is your DD doing?

The rainy day seems very fitting.

9/11/01

I was in CT, about equal distance from NYC & Boston.
I had just started grad school and Tues was a class day. I dropped DS (then 3) at pre-school and came home to read for my class that afternoon with DS (then 1). I turned on the radio, but I wasn't really listening. After about 5 minutes, I realized that a song hadn't played, so I started actually listening. I walked downstairs and turned on the TV about 30 seconds before the 2nd plane hit. I called DH at work and told him to find a TV, we were under attack. I remember watching DS1 rolling around in the living room, completely oblivious and wondered to myself what type of world is he going to grow up in?

Odd thing...I was actually reading an academic study about Orson Wells' War of the Worlds radio show and how it was a turning point from the Hypodermic Needle Theory to the Two-Step Flow Theory of mass communication...OK, too much information??? Anyway, it was a really strange coincidence. Aliens attacking New Jersey.

UConn never officially canceled classes, so I drove 45 minutes to class that afternoon. It was very deja vu for me. I was a freshman in college when the first Gulf War started & the campus just seemed to have the same feel to it - 11 years later.

When Alan was hit a couple of years ago by a lady that didn't have insurance, ours ended up paying minus the deductible. We ended up taking her to court and we received it within 30 days. I never expected to see it, and was pleasantly surprised when the check arrived in the mail.:)

Lucky you (getting the $$, not getting hit!).
When I was hit by 3 illegal immigrants in a stolen car being chased by the border patrol, I had to suck up the deductible myself.

Wow!

... that's a LOT of stuff! You've got my attention for being a busy community volunteer! :thumbsup2

I don't do it for the attention. In fact the only 2 times I've ever really mentioned all of it in one sentence was in response to a PTA mom and a Little League dad who started the 'volunteer' lecture on me.

I do stuff because I like to contribute.

Stace, I hope you are comfortably recouperating. pixiedust: and good wishes for you:hug:

Jack how is your DD doing?

The rainy day seems very fitting.

Two days in the hospital, pins and wires thru 3 separate bones, and one huge cast. Surgery went very well. All bones are now properly aligned. Next evaluation on Monday. Thanks for asking. Jack

I really hope she is doing well. I am sure it has been pretty tough on her with school. Good luck at the drs. Monday. Tell Justine I said hello.:goodvibes

Hey Paula, love the new siggy pics.

Although they may not be new. I haven't been that observant lately.
