Hazel and I had a long chat this morning. We are thinking about taking a shorter 3 day trip to Chicago next May. We really want to be there to support Angelina and the rest of the band and choir kids at the concert they will be giving. We didn't want to do all the other stuff that they are doing, except maybe going to see Wicked, I've heard a lot of great things about the show. I guess I will need to do a little bit of research on Chicago!!! ;)

Andy , that will be a nice trip for you and Hazel. Enjoy:goodvibes
Are you packed yet for your cruise?

I just finished dying my frock coat material, came out pretty good. Only some uneven spots, adds character.

It was a big load! 6 yards!

Thanks for the Rit tips Esteri and Arlene, they helped.

Will be working on my coat for the next few weeks.

Be sure and post a pic when you get it done:goodvibes

Hope you are feeling better soon Stace!!!!

Someone else made mention of all the stuff their kids were selling right now. All I want to know is why EVERYONE has to sell at the same time? Don't they know they'd have better sell results if they staggered this stuff a bit? I guess all they can think of is that if they sell later- people won't buy because they already bought other stuff? But it really doesn't help.
Here we have my middle schooler selling stuff for school AND different stuff for band. 2 different fundraisers at the same time.
Girl Scouts are going to be selling nuts and candy soon.
Boy scouts are selling popcorn.
Younger two are selling stuff for the school. PLUS having their biggest fundraiser (fall festival for Halloween) in which parents are asked to donate bags of candy, 5 cakes per classroom plus other baked goods for the cakewalks, items to go into a themed basket for each classroom which will be in the silent auction at the fall festival, 2-liter cokes to them be sold at the concession stand, volunteer to help "work" each classrooms activity and the concession stands AND buy the tickets for their kids to do the activities in each classroom/cakewalk/etc. AND bid on the silent auction items. All this at the same time asking $3 per child for party money for the couple of holiday parties they do each year.
If you imagined that I, as room mother for both my younger two classes, have received very few $3 party money, ZERO items donated for the baskets and as of yet no one donating the other items or volunteering to work the room's activities- you would be right.
They burn out the parents- it's totally ridiculous!
Girl Scout cookies always do well- and I think part of that is because they are girl scout cookies but I think another big part of it is that it's LATER- when all the other fundraising stuff has run it's course and it's the only fundraiser going on at that time. That's my opinion anyway. It sure is easier to get people to buy cookies when there isn't any other fundraising going on. WHO they expect to buy all this stuff from the fundraising is beyond me. With so many fundraising efforts going on at once- every single parent out there has ATLEAST one child (usually all of them at once) selling something themselves.
I'm fundraised out. I opted to just donate some money to the elementary my younger two go to- and opt out of the fundraiser. My kids are already trying to sell too much stuff to add that on too!
(ps Jeff is out right now with Robert selling popcorn... wishing him luck. Popcorn tends to do pretty good- we can't sell anything from the other fundraisers if our lives depended on it though. Waste of time even trying..)

I hear that. Besides popcorn and cookie dough for band, and daily Market Day e-mails b/c PTA is way behind and won't be able to afford their "marquis" sign that they don't need for the school, I'm done.

Even worse, though, the trips keep getting more expensive. $60 for one kid to go to see CSO. $20 for another next week for a show at the Rialto. And then DS13 finds out about an 8th grade trip to Washington D.C. over President's Day -- $900! (for three days). He's pretty bummed he won't be going, but that's just too much.

And since our district just lost their lawsuit over the land for the new high school and will have to pay 2x what was budgeted, they'll be coming at us asking for more money for that.

OK, I got it today in email from a friend. And it has nothing to do with Pirates. But it's just too funny not to share.... Sorry about the crazy font sizes, not everything would change when I tried to make it smaller.

This was hilarious!

Thanks Esteri...

That's California Certified Organic? It's a stricter standard you know...

I've never seen an LED tree, organic or otherwise. Certainly something I wouldn't mind having for my garden. Seems like a very useful sort of plant. Perhaps it's not a tree? Do you think LEDs grow underground? Might be a root.

:rolleyes1

400px-OLED_schematic.svg.png

Tisk - Tisk - Tisk <snickering chuckles barely muted> .... It really is an organic LED screen:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
• Find out more about navigating Wikipedia and finding information •Jump to: navigation, search

A 3.8 cm (1.5 in) OLED ScreenAn organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is any light-emitting diode (LED) whose emissive electroluminescent layer comprises a film of organic compounds. The layer usually contains a polymer substance that allows suitable organic compounds to be deposited. They are deposited in rows and columns onto a flat carrier by a simple "printing" process. The resulting matrix of pixels can emit light of different colors.

Such systems can be used in television screens, computer displays, portable system screens, advertising, information and indication. OLEDs can also be used in light sources for general space illumination, and large-area light-emitting elements. OLEDs typically emit less light per area than inorganic solid-state based LEDs which are usually designed for use as point-light sources.

A great benefit of OLED displays over traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs) is that OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. Thus they draw far less power and, when powered from a battery, can operate longer on the same charge. OLED-based display devices also can be more effectively manufactured than LCDs and plasma displays.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_light-emitting_diode

Typically, OLEDs have greater luminance then LCD screens, a wider off axis viewablitiy and they are supposedly the NEXT thing to drive Plasma and LCD technology into the garbage pail ... provided they refine the technology for longer life span and scale up to fabricate larger screens. Thee OLED panels are super thin and very low in power consumption.

Esteri, I have to copy that and send it out. It is too funny................

That's EXACTLY what I did. What a hoot eh?

I highly recommend wicked!

Brendan and I saw it once one Broadway with original cast and saw it last week here in boston!

Amazing show!!!

Chrissie

snif - snif.... I sent my daughter and spouse to see it while I hung back to watch the little one who was too young to see it. So - I've beenthiking I'd wait and try for the Wicked deal - $25 front row seats. Gotta see if maybe this weekend is a good one to try it.

It's time this thread takes over the top spot in replies on the cruise meets forum board!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We're enteing a new dimension - it seems...

We're getting there. Without getting too gory, the incision had come open a bit, and we figured out that it's because I hadn't been elevating the leg enough, which made my foot swell, and of course all the fluid has to go somewhere, and the nearest opening was the incision. It's not infected (whew!), so if I stay away from here (darn it!) and in my recliner or on the bed with the foot waaay up I should be good as new in...oh....3 or 4 more weeks. At best.
Thank you, for asking and thinking of me. :flower3: And sorry if that was TMI.
Oh no!
well I'm glad it's not infected... but please do keep it elevated more! You need a laptop. ;)

Oh don't I know it. don't even get me started about how all the trips are getting more expensive- everything is so expensive nowadays where it concerns the kids and their activities and field trips/etc. :(

And our district just built a bunch of new schools this past year (leaving a bunch of perfectly usable elementary schools now vacant for no good reason! ugh!) and the 2 billion dollar bond they used t pay for this was voted NO not once, but twice.. but they still kept holding a vote until the 3rd time it "barely" passed (probably because people were getting tired of going to vote for this!). I'm still peeved about that. (we're paying for it in higher property taxes) So yes, they'll be coming after y'all for more money for that..
(they sued for the land instead of just purchasing it?)

Nothing a nice laptop won't fix... Think insurance will pay for it?

Hey! get back on that recliner! :rolleyes1

Just before my 7th knee operation in August 2005, I bought myself a laptop and new recliner, they both still get used very much!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Feel better Stace!!! :flower3: :flower3:

Are you packed yet for your cruise?

Nope, not yet. I usually pack the night before we leave.

Hazel was talking with my mom on the phone last night, my mom said her friend Walt is very excited about going on the cruise!!! Walt and my mom are so cute together, sometimes they make me.............

Glad you don't have an infection. Rest up.

Going to take advantage of the fact the sun is shining and drive over to Tampa. Ketchup later

Stace,

At least (as you said) with nothing infected (yet) you're gonna have just a few more days (er, or - weeks) til recovery comes to visit. And i would count that as good news. So just kick up you feet - tell your husband to snap TO! ... and hurry up with that dish of strawberry ice cream ... and make it SNAPPY! Your toes need to cool off a little and that ice cream is essential - right about NOW!

<soft chuckles>

And if he can't keep up with yer demands I think I might be able to get ahold of someone ta send over ta help...

iC9165E01-D44D-4096-A468-1E07DA8C93C8.jpg

And please feel free to substitute whatever pleases you for ice cream - and exercise this technique as often as the whim takes a-hold of you. Yeah... maybe it's time fer some sushi or a nice Austrailian lobster tail?
<chuckles>

OK.. and now we have an 8AM socccer game - still not sure if the spouse wantsme to go or not seeing as the little one is still fast asleep. Excuse me while I go find out....

Ok... so where's my nickle? I gotta fund a couple education funds here... ya kno?
<wink n' grinnin'>

[edited]

To add to the excitement, while I was at work last night, DW called to tell me that Nick(DS8) fell of the monkey bars and hurt both wrists. I came home and she took him to the ER. Turns out he broke his arm, but luckily it was only one (the one he writes with, of course) and it's only broken in one place. He has a hard plastic immobilizer, and I'll take him for his cast next Tuesday. I guess that's the end of soccer for Nick for this year.

I'll try to pop in for chat tonight. I really enjoy talking to everybody. But I may just fall alseep out of exhaustion from last night's near all-nighter. I'm getting too old for this college stuff. Thank goodness this is my last year of classes. I'll be sooooo ready to celebrate by the TOAL!!

mzs.gif

I'm sorry about Nicks' accident. Every time my girls jump off the playground equipment or other things of notable size - I tense up a little... well, not EVERY time - but often enough. So, at least it sounds like a modest break as oposed to something catastropic.

Now you would think after all these years walkin' the planet I would know this - but I don't - and out of curiosity may I ask: how long do the docs say Nick will be in the cast? I've had my wrist and hip broken and the hip put back together with surgery - and all I remember was the difficulty getting around and a few other colorful moments that all less than diplomatic to post publicly. And that it took several weeks - but not sure exactly how long it was.

cruisinMIKE.....tell Nick he has my sympathies.....I certainly understand how he probably feels right about now. But he'll be a huge CELEB at school at least!!

And I DO have a brand new lap-top, got it all set up with the wireless stuff before the surgery....but I tried to order a lap tray that would tilt at an angle so that I could be in the recliner or on the bed with my leg up, and the first one I wanted was on back-order, the second one got lost in the delivery process....because of our rural area, it's next to impossible to get things delivered....so I had to settle for a flat tray that my daughter bought me at Target.
Problem is, if I am in a good position for the foot, I can't use the lap top. Unless I rest it on my chest...and that doesn't work too well. Most likely the first time in my life I ever wished I had a FLAT one.

Sorry to hear about your table getting lost in the delivery process, I have one of those Table-Mate II tables Stace and it sits right next to my recliner, I don't know what I would do without the table.
