I've never tendered before, so I was wondering what they would look like.
These pics are wonderful !!! Thanks so much:thumbsup2

Andrew, I agree they look pretty small though. How many do they run ? I guess we will have to be up early to get in line:confused3

Yes they are on the small side. I can't remember how many tenders they had but it was a few (maybe 6-8):confused3 .
They were constantly going back and forth.

Staples has it for $700 (Nikon that is)

Impressive... a Nikon 40D for $700. You would think the Canon execs would know about this and make thier next comparable model .... competitive in features and.... price. Its' unlikely though - since (supposedly) they sell more DSLRs then all other competitors combined - business hubris of some sort is..... expected. So - me being a would be skin-flint, I'll have to weigh in and attempt to resist the attraction of the new model and wait for the best bargain to emerge... IE, repair the old and soldier on, buy a discontinued model on the cheap (30D?), or swallow my cheapness and fork it over for the new model with minimal breaks.

You say they were going in circles, eh?

OMG...that will take forever..............

It is only a 5 min ride and they load from the front and the back. They do let people with excursions off first. The rest of us have to go to the theater to wait to be called.

Oooooh who is leading that.... Looks nice....

Actually I think that it was Judy (who is no longer going :sad2: ) I know that you only have to take a water taxi from the harbor to the beach, but maybe someone here has done this before and has experience.

Couple of things I went to Cabo with Princess cruises and the tenders were far larger than this, picture above thats a water taxi, I remember some of the boat trip shore excusions actually docked with the Magics tender doors.

Secondally we had tendering twice on the recent Med trip, it does add time but its a well organized operation. The boats could take maybe 100+ people and you go to the Buena vista theater and get a tender ticket, one for each person in your group so you must turn up together, you would go to the rleft hand entrance to the theatre and get a ticket, then fill up the rows from the back of the theatre forwards, they would take you down row by row, they were using kids club CM's to walk you down.

DCL always says it will get its own organized excursions off first, but I was early on both of our tender days and we were of very quickly indeed they would work how much seats were available on each tender with people on shore trips and so not to mix up tours they called that amount down for people going it alone.

In the mornings its good as they run a number of boats during the afternoon they cut these down an the issue is waiting for tenders to fill up before they go, so more worries about booking Palo dinner after a tender day rather than getting off.

Cabo should be better I think it leaves at 4.30pm.

You get a note about tendering with the navigator the evening before.

Last time the Magic missed cabo due to high seas, on the e/bound repo.

In the morning we had three maybe four tenders in the afternoon it was two only.

I havent any pictures of the tenders, this picture of the Magic was taken from the tender and you can see where the tenders dock against the Magic.

The Magic in Villfrance a tender port.

Its not clear in this picture but the white blob on the side of the Magic is a tender boat and you should be able to work out it was a reasonable size from that.

Andrew, here is a closer picture of the tender that we had in 2005. Notice the sign on the front of the boat.
Maybe Cabo has newer bigger ones by next year.

Anyway I don't usually share things like this but.... We had a little bit of a scare today. This morning we were doing some last minute things for a get together at our house and my Dad collapsed to the floor. Passed out, he is diabetic. We took him to the emergency room and after 6 hours of tests of all sorts, it seems that he took too much insulin which dropped his blood sugar dramatically. He's a little sore from the fall, but other than that okay, Thank God. He's been diabetic since 1984 and on insulin since 2000 and this is the first time something like this has happened.
Something good did come from this, he had all those tests that he had been reluctant to do before. ;)

Happy Sunday everyone!!! :hippie: :grouphug: pixiedust:

Oh Sooz, I'm so glad he's alright! I've had a few scares with Kevin in the past too. I've gotten now so that I know the signs, he gets ghost white, grumpy as h*** and wobbly. Now that's he's on the pump,we don't have as many "episodes" as when he was doing shots.

God that looks so small, I remember getting a far bigger one but on Princess at Cabo we did do a boat trip then land shore excursion and we went straight onto the boat.

But I remember the tenders to be far bigger than that. Our ones in the Med were also very big and could accommodate a lot of people.

DCL would be better off using lifeboats!

Ok who is good at Maths

Q: What is the passenger capacity for your tenders?
A: All our tenders are permitted for a maximum capacity of 55 passengers in addition to the Capitan and ship hand on board. Currently we have 10 tenders ready for service. -550 people every 20 mins if all in operation.

Q: How long does it take to get from the ship to the docks?
A: Depending on the anchoring position assigned to the cruise ship travel time vary. Typically it’s a 7 to 10 minute maximum shore tender ride. Most passengers enjoy our tenders as an additional fun memory to their vacation.

Ten boats, 55 on each, ( with someone sitting on your lap), 10 mins there ten mins back.

2700 passengers on the Magic, how long is the queue?

How long a wait to get tendered:

In an ideal situation (these are incremental times - 550 per load):

0 mins for the first 550
20 mins for the last 2150 (i.e 2150 folks will have at least a 20 min wait)
40 mins for the last 1600 (i.e 1600 folks will have at least a 40 min wait)
60 mins for the last 1050 (i.e 1050 folks will have at least a 1hr wait)
80 mins for the last 500 (the last folks to leave will have been waiting 1hr 20 mins)

Andrew if they have all 10 boats in service (probably not) that would be 550 passengers for one cycle of boats. That would mean 5 sets of all 10 boats loaded to the max to accommodate 2700 passengers. It would be one hour total, but they can not load all 10 boats at the same time (only 2 at a time). I would say they could get 1000 people off in a little over an hour if everything went smooth.

From the Cabo Tender website they do not service Princess. They may have a contract with another tender service.

 Hi Andy.

That would be good if they could load all 10 boats at once, but it is only 2 boats at a time and maybe 15-20 mins to load each boat. The others sit there waiting for their turn to dock to the Magic. So I would estimate 500-700/hr. Remember not everyone gets off the ship and not everyone goes at the same time.

Yep, agreed. The Magic would need 10 tender berths and have 'instant load' capability ;)

Just give everyone a mask and fins and 'This way to shore' :cool1:

Hmm...maybe this needs to be added to the "Unofficial Guide To DCL" under the "Ride Load Times" catgory?

I think they can load max four at any time, two foward tender doors two aft tender doors, but to load will be 5 mins each, at least.

Princess had fewer but larger ships and I remember my one off was a glass bottom boat, most likley took 100+ people I had a boat trip and land trip excusion so we went directly onto it, and went to sea not the port. We then joined the bus later, and came back by the same type of boat from the pier after a quick walk around town.
