OMG! DS's (who I'm still not speaking with) birthday is today is on his way to Vegas! I already called and wished him a happy birthday - trying to be the maternal mother everyone thinks I'm not - and even asked him to pick up his presents, MIL gave him $100, DD14 got him an LA Dodger's History book and I got him an 80gb video ipod. He didn't bite but now that you mentioned that!
Oh Lordy - he really wouldn't go that far would he?
I never even thought about that - he's with his girlfriend of 15 months!

My comment to you ended up as part of my new tag, Jonesing!
My oldest daughter and I are off for Live Earth today in Giants Stadium -- should be a lot of fun. Happy Saturday to everyone.
Thought I'd share a joke I found in my email this morning that made me giggle....
Man driving down road.
Woman driving on same road in opposite direction.
They pass each other.
Woman yells out window at man, "PIG!"
Man yells out window back at woman, "WITCH!!" (edited to be made DIS friendly)
Man rounds next curve.
Man crashes into HUGE PIG in middle of road and dies.
Thought For the Day: If only men would listen.
Huh? Did you say something Mary Ann?![]()

Oh I feel your frustrationI was without a card to use for 2 wweks. You don't realize how much you need one when you don't have it ! I was in the process of moving and switching banks and it was hard for me to always have enough money on me. EVERYTIME I had to get gas, I had to pre-pay. I just hated that............especially trying to guess how much It was going to cost ahead of time.

Four letters for ya man, USAA
Best customer service ever. And you don't have to change banks every time you move.
I have to replace my Check Visa card as the sig strip is totally gone and this is the reason I'm stalling. They did that to us a few years ago when we had trouble with them. This time we will do it one card at a time as we both have a diff # where last time it was the same.
SO, YAY!
The sk8ingfam and the jonesings had dinner together last night. Amy and HC are awesome! You know the light-up-his-face smile Nathanael has in both of their sig pictures? Well it isn't just for pictures! The kid smiles like that all the time! He is too cute.
We had a great dinner at a place called The Mason Jar and then drove through Garden of the Gods - very cool rock formations and the sun was setting so the light was perfect for pictures.
I'll post pictures later - my camera cable is in the car along with the rest of my life.
Anyway, I'm glad we got to meet!
Sounds like you had a great time last evening at your mini-meet!!!
I drove through Garden of the Gods back in 1975, then again in 1989, but we did it earlier in the day, I can't imagine how nice it must be there at sunset.
OOOH guess what DH and i saw this morning when i drug him out on my walk with me.
i sure do miss our beloved dog, hope the grass is soft and greenier.
hugs are forever, by me!
And now the shovel and hoe are pushing up daisies.
That's awesome. I LOVE rowing. I love watching Men's 8.......
oh, sorry, you lost me there for a minute.
Dh rowed in college. It was all good.
Therefore I am going to this concert, by way of the bum's stop at the bus terminal, in a Green day "Kiss me, I'm punk" shirt!
Happy Birthday?
Reminds me of when DD first got married, my DH and DS were at the Motor Vehicle and there was a clerks office across the hall. He went in and asked it there was a way to check the county records. They directed my 15yrold detective to a computer and that's when I got the phone call at work.
We're all just going in the website and entering those bdays on the calendar.
Sorry Andy![]()
It's July 23rd Tom................

harumph!!! So happy I could help YOU get a tag!!![]()
Have you seen the wireless phone commercial where the girl calls up mom to say she's in Vegas with her boyfriend? Mom tell her just don't come back married...the daughter's reply drops out and then mom panics...."Don't make the same mistake I did!"![]()
But don't worry...I'm sure the county clerk's office is way too busy--even though it is open 24 hours on the weekend--and DS will not want to wait in the 112 degree heat because the line is going out the door.![]()
We had a great time! It's too bad is wasn't a little closer to dusk when we went to GotG Park because then they would have been able to see the bats come out. But I think the boys (all of them) had a great time climbing on the rocks in the central garden area.![]()
I'm just glad that Nathan (ours, not theirs) wasn't in too crabby a mood...he's usually a pretty happy kid but there are times (like when he's sleepy) when he can turn into the Grump of the World!Luckily he was in a pretty accomodating mood otherwise M wouldn've have a much different opinion to report!![]()

So we may have 2 meets in one month! We're heading to Las Vegas this month so hopefully we can meet up with the Captain and his mateys!
Hello Everyone! Well my graduations (2) and 4th of July/Graduations Party are now behind me! TG. I am honestly exhausted to the core of my being. Note to self....do not host a party of a Wednesday when you have to go to work Thurs. and Friday!!!!!!
It was nice chatting last night with you guys. Hopefully I cleared the air about a few things, but I fear I may have confused some of you more.
Suffice is to say, that the concerns of many of us go way beyond the stupid spamming of a few months ago. It's about invasion of privacy, backstabbing, and paranoia. Those who don't know the backstory cannot understand and I appreciate that. But please know, for those of us with strong opinions on the matter of the website security, we have been here from the beginning of the thread (or darn close to it) and if we feel so strongly about it, you guys KNOW US, and therefore, please consider that we must have a darn good reason for feeling as such.
JR you did an excellent job on the website and in record time too!
If opinions are being sought, I believe a person must be an active poster with 50 posts or more to gain access.
I just would like to leave you all with one thought. My DH is not a DISser, although he does participate in DIS events. For months now I have wondered if I want to spend my TOAL looking over my shoulder or trying to avoid certain people or certain groups. Not only don't I want to do that, after spending thousands of dollars on the TOAL, my DH would be furious at me for that. All he says now anyway is "this is suppose to be a vacation right?? Fun right?? And I have to agree.
As I said in chat, I am here on the DIS like a Smurf in the forest...........
Now let's see where I see that quote again............
And remember to sign up for my Mickey Ice Cream Eating contest! The fastest one with a Mickey Bar wins a mysterious prize - broken out by age groups!
Is the prize a couple of Excedrin migraine tablets to cure the brain freeze? If so, sign me up!
m&m's mom,
You ask how is the weather in Lubbock lately?
Lows in the 60's highs in the low 90's
Mild winds, at least for us.
A full years worth of rain in the first 6 months so things are growing that I have never seen grow in this area and my allergies over the last week are going crazy due to it.
Cotton is growing and if it will warm up and won't hail we should have a nice year.
Students have all gone home for the summer and traffic has slowed.
Had a wonderful time last night at a fund raiser for a local foundation that provides scholarships for music education majors. The event was held in the back yard of a local business person with entertainment by David Gaschen who played the Phantom in Switzerland, Germany and on Broadway. Debbie Gravitte who won a Tony for her part in "Jerome Robbins Broadway" but also played many other parts including Mama in "Chicago" on Broadway. DW will tell you I turned very red when, while she was singin "When You're Good To Mama" she came over and sang the tit for tat part to me. Yes It was very hard to keep my eyes up when she was 12 inches away leaning over in a low cut dress singing directly to me and trying to make me look, just to make me blush. The last featured entertainer was Brad Leali and the local jazz band he put together when he stopped touring. Several years ago Brad took the opportunity to stop tourning and started teaching jazz at Texas Tech University Not only did they play, they also provided back up for Debbie and they were great.
Best of all it's $1.50 beer and brauts (sp) at the pool, and if DD will get her chores done we can go.
You asked how the wheather is in Lubbock? I have to say that not only is the wheather in Lubbock great but life in general is great.
Ok, so here is the post on proposals for the website. PM me with any concerns you don't want to share publicly.
1) Access. I propose the following areas of the site be freely available to anyone on the Internet with no user name or password:
a) Itinerary
b) Thread Info
c) Useful Info
My rationale is all of this info has previously been posted here on the DIS and anyone can come to the DIS and view this info without needing a user ID or password.
2) All other areas will be password protected because they will contain personal information. Understand that my reason for doing this is I am concerned about random strangers finding out family details and travel plans. Unfortunately, knowing someone's first name, birthday, etc. can be enough to start stealing someone's identity. I am not doing this to exclude people for any other reason.
Access will be given if you meet the following criteria:
a) Have a valid DIS ID (so we have at least one way of keeping you informed since e-mail addresses can change)
b) Meet the minimum requirements for sending and receiving PMs from the DIS (since this will be the method used to communicate to avoid publishing e-mail addresses where spammers can harvest them)
c) Have provided the information requested on the main page of the site. (We will NOT publish all of this info on the website but in order to be fair, we can't allow you to see someone else's personal info without providing yours in the same way we will not share yours if you don't have access).
Some people have had their personal information removed and access denied to previous versions of the website. I don't know the reasons but I am not sure I can give access to these people. This is causing me a lot of personal turmoil and would welcome your thoughts here.
Some have suggested that prior to having access to the 'personal' parts of the site, you have to have posted to this thread a specific number of times. Let me know if this is how you want to do it. The general information areas would be open to all.
3) Personal Information will be limited to what you are willing to share. I have deleted everything I received from Lisa and will start over with the personal info. I am going to ask that you send in all of the info requested.
If you do NOT tell me what you want displayed, I will display only DIS ID, adults' names, childrens' gender and age (DS13) and hometown.
Otherwise, I will display whatever you ask. Last names will never be shown and hometowns will be sanitized to just major city/state (e.g. "Chicago, IL" for me.
4) We will be looking for people to serve as authors and editors and reviewers of content. Particularly in making sure that links work after they are posted, typing up content and sending it to be posted, etc. Hopefully we can find new site administrators as well. The site uses the Mambo CMS, so if you have any familiarity with that, please let me know.
Ok, anyway, that's the post. I will probably not be around for a little while. Boy Scout camp, daughter's Vacation Bible School and some personal issues will take precedence for me in the coming week.
JR, thank you again for all your work.
I will do what I can to keep the site moving. If you want your and your families birthday's posted, add it to the calendar and I will approve as quick as possible.
I agree with the sections that JR is proposing to be public.
Other wise, please consider this. We have about 14 months until the trip. NOTHING, let me repeat, NOTHING on this website needs to be done today, this minute, right now, etc. Lets take our time and discuss things in a rational manner.
One of the really cool/great things about this website is that the content was provided by YOU (each and everyone of YOU). JR did the programming, but the links, the subject matter, the cool pictures, etc. were all pulled from the thread. WE as a group can be proud of this site.
Let's enjoy!
