Thanks for the warning. I have a feeling mine (now 13 going on 55) will give us plenty of grief...possibly more than the girls.
Can I resign now???

No Stace, just know that this to shall pass:)

That's great - we'll have to get the boys chatting before cruise time.

I'm not moving up - since we will be in a new pack, DH & I think we might volunteer to run one event/project next year and call it good. He is committee chair this year.

Until this year, rockets were the May pack meeting and crossing was the first Sat. in June, but our school sched. changed this year and they will already be out for 2 weeks when June rolls around, so we combined the two. We figured no one would show up if we waited until June. People take their summer weekends seriously up here. We don't even have Little League games on Sat & Sun.

We have a Webelos and about to be Bear here. There are a bunch of kids in Scouting that will be on the trip from the little bits and pieces I have seen on the thread.

Brack...we are going to have to make plans to meet one time you guys drive down here. :goodvibes

That would be fun. I'll see if I can find out our next visit to Annette's Mom's. :thumbsup2

We had a great weekend in the Tidewater Area with our friends and our adopted granddaughter Kimberly. She is a real sweety!

We talked them into cruising with us again. The last time was before Kimberly. We will book the first week in January 2009 when we cruise this December. :woohoo: Cruisin' with Kimberly. :cloud9:

My oldest daughter will be heading to Cadiz, Spain, next month in a foreign exchange program and will take classes at the University of Cadiz (she turns 15 a few days before she goes). I can't imagine how much better her Spanish will be when she gets back! Hopefully your daughter can find some program like that when she gets a little older.

My niece recently did a semester abroad in Italy. She returned an "enriched" individual with loads of positive experiences to show for her time in Europe. Following the semester she traveled for almost a month through Europe with some girlfriends and litterially had the time of her life (up to now).

As for how her Spanish will develope - I imagine it should improve... not the opposite! <chuckles> And Cadiz appears to be a nice place to hang for classes!

Exactly why I wish I'd (or one of my kids) taken Spanish instead of French. But we get it here everyday....just walking into a Circle K. I really want to know what they're saying about me! Or...maybe I don't want to know.

I imagine all kinds of things are THOUGHT behind our backs from time to time = and some of it may be what we suspect - while most of the time it is of no consequence. As far as I'm concerned with any "thoughts or comments behind my back"... oh well... so what?

<muted chuckles>

So... my 3 year old just came up to me to declare she was going to be Christopher Robin and Daddy was going to be Tigger. Should I be wondering what she thinks of me behind my back or otherwise? <chuckles>

So... I have to step out to run some minor errands - and I'll part ways now and share that today was a wonderful and relaxing Mothers' Day. We did some very light shopping and walked the low tide beach just north of Ventura today. It was a beautiful day and then we tried to get into a couple restuarants but the waits were intolerable. So we reluctantly came home and made supper. It has been a simple but satisfying day.

TTFN... I may visit later this evening - or in the middle of the morning again...

I LOVE living in a place that is 2/3 the size of the continental US with a population of 625,000.

Don't we have a lawyer around here somewhere????[/QUOTE]

Hey M. - I love - love - love your sense of humor - I so relate w/you I am really looking forward to meeting you.
I was a very active Mom when my kids were young. Although I worked - I was still the den mom, girl scout leader, little league team mom, soccor mom, etc. In those days I was the exception - working vs SAHM - and a lot of the SAHM's couldn't find the time to be invoved w/their kids. Their loss!

( p.s. yeah we have lawyers around here (like me) but gotta say DCL contract terms/limitaions would likely prevail)

I can understand your love of Alaska - we have a small family ranch and I love to go there and enjoy the free open space. I am a wimp though - cannot handle the cold. I'm even a fair weather skiier!!!

Well, I did take French in school and have never used it except for going to France (and they all thought my accent was terrible!). My daughters already tell me what our doormen are talking about when they think we can't understand (luckily, so far never anything bad about us!). The Mandarin issue is another story -- it's hard to predict the future and how useful it might be, although Crash made a good point about all the different dialects.

Well I was leaning towards French because I assumed (silly me) that it would be more helpful with math & science terminology. We didn't have Latin or Russian available--just French, German and Spanish. Of course after I got out of high school they started to offer other languages.

A friend of ours back East is a high school French teacher (her mom is French) and she has this giant map of the Francophone world similar to this:
Map-Francophone_World.png

Dark blue: French-speaking
Blue: official language (administrative)
Light blue: language of culture
Green: minority

Her goal is to visit all these countries  Not sure how much she still wants to do that because when she and her family went to France, she had to tell off a couple of the Frogs because they made insulting remarks about her family and her, uh, ample behind...:sad2:

Hi

Happy Mother's day and b'day to all it is appropriate..

The boys took me to Sweet Tomatoes for breakfast.. it was okay.. we'll never go there for breakfast again. Then we delivered the broadwalk to the nature center for Geoff's Eagle project part 6. Dh was fixing the dishwasher for me as part of my present but he couldn't get it back together and now it doesn't work at all. So I went to Lowes and bought a new dishwasher..

awwwwwww sorry breakfast wasn't so great! But glad that the dishwasher situation worked out! :wizard:

We went to Mimi's Cafe. We got to the cafe and looky there...a parking space right up front! But don't you know some

DW was about to go to blows but there was one a few spaces down...no need to get worked up on a happy day. At first we were bracing for a monumental wait :scared: but we only sat around for 3 minutes TOPS! There were lots of people sitting around but they had reservations and were probably waiting for their party to arrive. The meal was yummy.

We spent the rest of the day bumming around and playing grill tag...I wound up taking back the full-sized grill and got the Weber Q instead. I have issues in that they were both the same price :sad1: BUT the Q is MUCH lighter, portable and easier to deal with! Plus, when we move again, we can just box it up and not worry about the moving company damaging yet something else. :headache:

My next task is to buy a glass computer desk because the moving company is much more careful with glass items than anything else. Actually, they send out a specialty company to dismantle, secure and crate up anything like glass tabletops, DS's antique firetruck push pedal car etc. Pretty sad that I have to buy stuff based on whether or not the movers can destroy it. :sad2:

Happy Monday all. Wishing you all a great week.

The question of the day is, do I want to take a vacation day tomorrow and hit the beach? Suppose to be in the 80's on Tuesday. I need to decide by noon, so that I can tell the boss. This pastey white skin is looking pretty bad. Hmmmmm.........

So Earl won Survivor. On to the AI Finals.

Ketchup later.

I know -- I wish I was hanging out on the beach in Cadiz after classes! She is going to Granada one weekend and will see the Alhambra. I think her host family is taking her to see an authentic flamenco performance one night, too. She's probably learn all the appropriate -- or inappropriate -- slang in Espanol.

Ummm I am taking her on this TOAL.... Almost all our ports are spanish speaking... Hoping she can translate....

In December, when we were in Costa Maya and Cozumel she thought is was neat that she could understand some of their language and read the road signs. (Yeah like what the taxi drivers were yelling at us on the street "Hey Chicas...." :lmao: )

If you give her the responsibility for communicating in Spanish on the TOAL, I'll bet that will greatly increase her ability -- there's nothing like actually have to use something you learned in school to make it relevant.

When the head of French at my girls' school makes his presentation about why they should pick French, he also shows something like this about how many cultures of the world are based on French. And once you get out of France, I think you are much less likely to be criticized for your accent (or the dimensions of your behind).:lmao:
