Just checking in to say Hi everyone. Been crazy busy this week but I am trying to keep up reading. Hope everyone had a good day today. It was beautiful here.

Now that you mention it....that is what my life seems like most days. DS woke up with a 102.5 temp this morning, was dizzy, still had a headache from yesterday, and his ear & throat hurt. I took him in to be checked out & it is strep. He will be home until Thursday. Honestly we start out most days with the stress of getting the kids out the door & to school on time. Eliminating that would make the day start out so much nicer. If we homeschool next year we could have class 9-12 and then deal with everything else during the day.

Hope DS is feeling better soon!

Lucky you. We're past the stress stage. We did decide to cancel our vacation for this year and need to break the news to the kids since they were looking forward to Yellowstone. We're probably going to tell them about the cruise now and let them know we are trying to pay for it. It worked out well last winter b/c they understood why we were cutting back on other things and they agreed the cruise was worth saving money for.

:hippie:

We've pretty much done the same, though our DS already knows about the trip and was fine when he told him about cutting other things.

Jonesing - I hope you made it home safe!

Well, I'm all ketched up so signing off for tonight. Night everyone!

Hi Back Laura =

I thought I'd check in, too . . . so crazy . . . even though our baseball game was cancelled due to a freak suprise lightening storm. . .:cool1:

good evening everyone...just thought i'd pop in and say a quick hello!! hope everyone is having a good week!

Gosh, that is a shame! Our Target CS is great! The manager knows me and a couple other ladies who bargain hunt. Whenever he sees us roaming the store he says hello and thanks us for clearing out the unmarked markdowns. :goodvibes He donated a GC to the school's auction baskets too. :thumbsup2

A GC? A graham cracker? A goldfish cracker? :confused3

Here's a beer for ya as long as we are talking moose

Ok, let me be the first to say... "Eww".

GABBIE!!!!!! It is so cool!!! I didn't get to look around much at all because DH was with us :( and we just needed to get the kids Easter baskets but it has an escalator for your cart!!! :thumbsup2

*laugh* DH must be suffering from memory loss as we have been to that target before. Well maybe it wasnt him... Hmmmm..... Anyway I am a HUGE target fan. I hate Wal-Mart almost as much as I hate "the golden god" aka Kodak. When we lived in Albuquerque we got a wal-mart grocery store which was awesome! No I don't mean a store within wal-mart but rather a stand alone store with nothing but food! The prices were cheap and the store was clean! It was the 100th store in the nation.

We survived the tornado warning. It made me see we are not ready for any sort of disaster as I could not even find a flash light! When I get back we will have to fix that. The weather man said we got 13 inches of snow in the black forest. This of course doesn't include the blowing that is going on. Its that pesky heavy wet snow also! The dogs took it like pros and stepped just far enough out to do their business then running right back in. It has to be hard to only have 5 inch legs! Zoe is currently nestled under the covers trying to get warm. DS is still stuffy. I think its mostly because his last two teeth are coming in! The top molars! He showed me today that he had an owie and there it was poking out! Of course the fact that it was 60 yesterday 30 and snowing today and back into the 70's by the weekend doesnt help! I only hope he is better before we get on that plane next Tuesday!
I am off to take a bubble bath! I found out that I can turn the TV in the bedroom towards the tub and the remote still works! Its the next best thing to having a TV mounted above the tub.

DS went to be at 10 pm so I hope that means he will be sleeping in tomorrow morning. He took a 3 hour nap this afternoon.

SCI FI Picks Up Who Year 3

SCI FI Channel announced that it will air the third season of BBC's Doctor Who, beginning in July. The new season will kick off with the Doctor Who Christmas special "The Runaway Bride," guest-starring award-winning British comedy actress Catherine Tate.

In season three, David Tennant returns as the time-traveling Doctor, joined by a new companion, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman). The first episode of the season is called "Smith and Jones."

In the third season, which is already airing in the United Kingdom, the Doctor and Martha meet William Shakespeare, deal with bloodsucking alien Plasmavores, encounter the Judoon (a clan of galactic stormtroopers) and uncover a Dalek plot in 1930s New York.

The second season of the new Doctor Who earned impressive ratings during its airing on SCI FI, delivering an average of more than 1 million viewers each week.

Doctor Who is produced by Phil Collinson. Executive producers are Julie Gardner, the head of drama, BBC Wales, and Russell T. Davies, who is also lead writer.

Wow. John.R.Gray. I am impressed that your kids understood the concept of saving money. :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship: :worship:

My DD16 and DS14 haven't a clue. They still think that we can afford everything there little hearts desire. Trips are just icing. DD thinks she should have a car. NOT!!! She isn't asking, she sort of demands. I keep telling her to let me know how that works out for her. She doesn't think she needs a job either. Spoiled. I tell ya!!! Which is really strange because we don't give them what ever they want. They have to work for allowance and have to pay to pay out of there own monies.

I hear you on that. When DD was 15 we had it out about her lack of care for the things and clothes she carelessley threw all over. We threatened to never spend another cent til she woke up etc... you know the rant we all go thru. Well the next day she got a job working in the mall. Now since she was under the legal age, they took advantage of her. But she really learned the real value of the almighty buck and really for a brief time was the cheapest tightwad ever, until DS came along. He still hoards his cash :rotfl2:
She still is one of the most reliable workers anyone would have the good luck to employ.I remember when I went to pick her up one day,she was ripping into one of the coworkers Mom about how her darling child has called out 3x this week and now she has to pull his shift as well and if he is sick then he needs to call in himself and not have his Mom cover for him. Boy was I proud:hug:

As for the cars. Well her first was an old clunker Chevy Nova hatchback.Given to her by her Grandpa. She loved that piece of **** Good thing about having a clunker is they can put as many stickers on the car and you don't freak. Chad bought an old Corolla hatchback. Funny thing is the next car for both was a new one, financed solely by them as well.

Oh - I went again to the doc for my shoulder - diagnosis = " impingement syndrome of shoulder, adhesive capsulitis of shoulder, arthritis of shoulder" - they gave me a cortisone injection & more vicodin and I start physical therapy next week. Hopefully I won't need any additional injections?!!

That diagnosis says to me -"your're just getting old, girl!!!!"
Once the pain subsides maybe I'll think of it more as I'm mellowing like fine wine!!

Chris

Yup, that's frozen shoulder. Only thing is you really need to do the exercises to loosen up the shoulder joint before it really gets bad. There are lots of exercises out there . Hope it works out for you.

My quick remark... I went to IKEA to see those before....Really poor construction. I would barely send a 4 yo up on the metal one let alone a pre-teen or teenager.

I had a loft in college. Really sturdy. My Dh and i used to sleep in it when he stayed over. Sure i almost fell out a few times (It was only twin size)

It was made of 2X6's and 2x4's...had cross bracing and solid ladder panels at the end. You could park a truck on top of it.

Yeah...

... I must agree. Ikea stuff is not exactly made in a heavy duty manner. However, in some ways some Ikea things can be "good enough" ... depending on what it is and how it is used. And - on the issue of sturdy construction .... I am modifying our new bunk bed to take a larger bed .... a full size instead of the twin. And since the capacity is larger and I don't want any trouble or surprises... I am using 2x4s, and 2" thick dimensional lumber in building the structural additions ... and I am augmenting with standard metal construction brackets which are all bolted together so I can disassemble and remove it in the future. Otherwise... if I don't plan ahead then removing the bed may require cutting it up when the girls out-grow the bed. I do plan on periodically changing and refreshing the outward appearance and design.

If it is any indication of the strength I am choosing to intergrate into the remodeled bunk bed ... my "stringers" for the stairs will be cut from 2x15" boards! Well... actually I am using standard decking stingers that are precut. The precision can't be beat (by me) and the beefy size makes potential structural failure a non-issue.

I am sure that DS will be fine by Tuesday:) You all sure have been having weather extremes! This week is going to fly by for you all

Tom--your Vegas pics are great!!!:)

Here are the last few photos which are half decent and taken by the little pocket camera. I dropped my DSLR the other day and the autofocus is not working anymore. So I have to send it in for service now. And - I brought it to Vegas but left the batteries at home. Good thing I had the pocket camera as a backup. However, I only had a little bit of power on it... so I used it sparingly. Below are the last few photos which seem half decent to me...
