So, here's the scoop on the veterinary emergency...

The good news is that I went and visited her today. Mostly to give her the chance to tell me if she was done. Quite the opposite, she was bright eyed and bushy tailed, completely herself. So I left with a great deal of hope that we will have excellent success with the laproscopy.

I'll be able to buy a round with the Disney Dollars from this one... :scared1:

I'll try to check in to give you the results of the surgery since I know you'll not want to be kept in suspense.

OH, my heart goes out to you - we lost 3 dogs within the last 6 mos. - and 2 were younger than yours. Please keep us posted - and my prayers are with youl

Chris

So, here's the scoop on the veterinary emergency...

I returned form Portland yesterday to our 13 year old dog, Kaiya, who was in quite a bit of distress. She was fine when DH left for his school Board of Trustees meeting at 6:30. When I got home (at 8) she was obviously in pain, and looked like she was bloating (this is potentially a life threatening problem). Fortunately, our sitter was willing to stay. Off to the vet we went. It was, indeed, bloat and her stomach had twisted, but it didn't look like it had flipped completely over (that is the very acute life threatening version). DH and I got to have some really lovely conversations about euthansia and how far we're willing to ask a very old dog to go. I don't wish those conversations on anyone. We decided that we would not ask her to attept a recovery from major abdominal surgery, and that if it could not be solved non-invasively, well, it'd be a sad day at our house. Fortunately, the vet was able to pass a tube down to her stomach and relieve the pressure. It looked like the partial twist has untwisted itself as of last night.

This morning, new xrays showed her stomach filling with gas again. The vet is again concerned about the stomach flipping over. She suggested a laproscopy (spelling?). With two small incisions they could put a camera in and see if the stomach had twisted. If not, they can tack the stomach to the abdominal wall to prevent it from twisting. If so, then it would be major abdominal surgery to go in and untwist the stomach - which we've already determined we won't do. We've OK'd the laproscopy. It'll happen tomorrow - they had to use the equipment today and need time to sterilize it. And of course, we STILL have to figure out why this is happening - we're still in triage now.

Uh, I think I'm going to be pretty scarce on the boards between now and Sunday. :sad2: I'll try to check in to give you the results of the surgery since I know you'll not want to be kept in suspense.

Oh my!!! I know that feeling, our 11 year old Dalmation put us through similar fits last week, couldn't climb steps, get on our bed (her favorite place - yes we spoil her), throwing up in middle of night, whining/yelping whenever someone tried to pick her up (to carry down stairs). Fortunately it all passed, just some overexertion with the brief bought of springtime weather we had (before the ice).

I will say a prayer for your dog!!!

Good might everyone I will talk to you all tomorrow! I am getting over my dis withdrawel and it is making me sleepy.

KAREN

But without the boards, what did you have to do except sleep?:rotfl2:

Not only that, but are you also receiving strange e-mails from the DIS with no message in them??? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 I know I am.....

I got one of those also! I had a nice dinner. Steak, baked potato and salad.:)

OK, now this is just too funny and I had to share it with y'all.

Today was the first "FULL" day of Spring, and guess what happened, not once, not twice, but three times....................I slipped and fell on the ice attemping to read meters that are attached to the back of some of the residents homes.

Luckily, no injuries, unless you count my pride and ego..............:lmao:

Survivor fans, remember that Survivor is on tonight, due to March Madness being on Thursday.

Andy, how many times do we have to remind you to BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!!:) :) :)

And I really needed a laugh right now. I just found out that a friend had a heart attack today. She's doing ok, but will stay in the hospital at least over night.
So glad that your freind is doing well. Hopefully her recovery is quick.

I found out some great information about DS and school today after a meeting. I talked to the AG teacher about it and now feel that there is hope for DS being challenged from now on. :) I wish that I knew about this earlier but at least I know now. :)
Hopefully things will keep moving in a positive way for you Lisa.:)

We're at the airport waiting for the plane. Looks like we'll be ontime. Will have to ketchup later from the room.Did everyone suffer from DIS withdrawal today?

Stace have a great trip.  How is the wrist doing today?

Esteri I hope your Ddog continues to improve.

OMG, you're scaring me! I am guessing I will be needing a lot of :cake: and blended cocktails to get me through the teen years. I was looking at him in the sun today and I noticed a little fuzz starting to form on his upper lip. I about burst into tears!

Speaking of :cake:, I want to thank all of you for your encouragement regarding my death defying baking adventure last night. Despite all my best efforts to burn down the house I did manage to produce a very edible cake. It may not have been the prettiest birthday cake (I tried to frost it when it was still too warm) but it was yummy if I do say so myself!

Glad your house is still standing Mary. And the cake was delish1 (where did the cake icon go??) :)

On top of this, DH is away at a training class for the rest of the week. Annual reviews are due for my employees at work. The write up for a major award we were thinking about putting in for is due on Friday. (next year is looking really good for that application right now...) AND our school auction (which raises well over $100,000) is on Saturday and I'm the Silent Auction chair!

Esteri,

I am so sorry that your baby is going thru this right now. Bloat is one of the scarrest things we learned about when we got Gracie. I had never heard of that before we had a barrel chested dog. Sending some pixie dust and prayers your way. Please keep us informed.

Oh, if you had seen me, believe you me, you would have been laughing as well. Picture me doing a split, I'm lucky my pants didn't split right down the middle. The third time I went down, I was laughing so hard I had trouble getting up, and this was at the very last meter I read this afternoon.........

...............this was me.......:rotfl2:...............on the ground

I'm glad you can laugh at it Andy! :woohoo:

That stinks MR! Prayers and PD that he gets well soon and that it's nothing serious!:grouphug:

I wanted to tell everyone Thank you for your thoughts and prayers for our "stinky" DD. She did sleep better last night due to the extra pain killers I gave her. She said she didn't even wake up which is very unusual for her right now. She even over slept this morning. Too bad she can't have that every night.

I really do appreciate everyone here and I want you all do know that it is so nice to be able to mention some concern and know that there are friends here who will support you. I thank God every day for my new friends on DIS. It is truly amazing to me that even though we have never met in person we all have bonded with each other in an awesome way. It is truly a God thing!! You are all so wonderful, and we do covet your prayers and thoughts. Pardon my mushiness.  :grouphug: :grouphug:

Laura I am so glad your DD was able to get some rest last night. I hope she is feeling better today!!!

:grouphug:   to you my friend!!! I feel exactly the same way about everyone here. We are all so closeknit already I can only imagine how it will be 17 months from now and what a BLAST we will all have together :grouphug: :grouphug:

Oh my gosh Esteri I am all choked up. I am so sorry for your doggie and I hope tomorrow will bring the best news of all! I am so glad when you went to visit her today she was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed (that made the tears shoot out of my eyes). I also hope the rest of life calms down for you soon too. Please let us know how tomorrow goes. :grouphug:
