This one is in honor of the fact that I returned from a business trip yesterday to a veterinary emergency and didn't get to post at all! (Details follow in a more chatty post.)

Where do pirates buy their parrot food?

Petsmarrrrrrrrt!

I'll just end the suspense now - she's alive, though still hospitalized.

And, finally, here's the one for TODAY! It's not in honor of anything, it's just funny.

pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
Two pirate ships were crossing the ocean, one with a booty of red paint and one with a blue paint. What happened when the ships collided?
pirate: pirate: pirate: pirate:
They were marooned!

So, here's the scoop on the veterinary emergency...

I returned form Portland yesterday to our 13 year old dog, Kaiya, who was in quite a bit of distress. She was fine when DH left for his school Board of Trustees meeting at 6:30. When I got home (at 8) she was obviously in pain, and looked like she was bloating (this is potentially a life threatening problem). Fortunately, our sitter was willing to stay. Off to the vet we went. It was, indeed, bloat and her stomach had twisted, but it didn't look like it had flipped completely over (that is the very acute life threatening version). DH and I got to have some really lovely conversations about euthansia and how far we're willing to ask a very old dog to go. I don't wish those conversations on anyone. We decided that we would not ask her to attept a recovery from major abdominal surgery, and that if it could not be solved non-invasively, well, it'd be a sad day at our house. Fortunately, the vet was able to pass a tube down to her stomach and relieve the pressure. It looked like the partial twist has untwisted itself as of last night.

This morning, new xrays showed her stomach filling with gas again. The vet is again concerned about the stomach flipping over. She suggested a laproscopy (spelling?). With two small incisions they could put a camera in and see if the stomach had twisted. If not, they can tack the stomach to the abdominal wall to prevent it from twisting. If so, then it would be major abdominal surgery to go in and untwist the stomach - which we've already determined we won't do. We've OK'd the laproscopy. It'll happen tomorrow - they had to use the equipment today and need time to sterilize it. And of course, we STILL have to figure out why this is happening - we're still in triage now.

The good news is that I went and visited her today. Mostly to give her the chance to tell me if she was done. Quite the opposite, she was bright eyed and bushy tailed, completely herself. So I left with a great deal of hope that we will have excellent success with the laproscopy.

I'll be able to buy a round with the Disney Dollars from this one... :scared1:

On top of this, DH is away at a training class for the rest of the week. Annual reviews are due for my employees at work. The write up for a major award we were thinking about putting in for is due on Friday. (next year is looking really good for that application right now...) AND our school auction (which raises well over $100,000) is on Saturday and I'm the Silent Auction chair!

Uh, I think I'm going to be pretty scarce on the boards between now and Sunday. :sad2: I'll try to check in to give you the results of the surgery since I know you'll not want to be kept in suspense.

I was wondering what went on today. I finally get to a computer and find only 7 pages to ketchup on. Glad I did not miss much.

Thanks for the Survivor reminder Andy.

OK, I have got to find some dinner. Later......

Angelina's favorite animal is the Brown Sugar Puppy, and yes, the kids still kiss the hearts and make a wish.

P.S. to Mary...............Grab a drink hon.......the real fun of the stinky teen years is about to begin Yee Ha!!!! :drinking1 :drinking1 :drinking1

OMG, you're scaring me! I am guessing I will be needing a lot of :cake: and blended cocktails to get me through the teen years. I was looking at him in the sun today and I noticed a little fuzz starting to form on his upper lip. I about burst into tears!

Speaking of :cake:, I want to thank all of you for your encouragement regarding my death defying baking adventure last night. Despite all my best efforts to burn down the house I did manage to produce a very edible cake. It may not have been the prettiest birthday cake (I tried to frost it when it was still too warm) but it was yummy if I do say so myself!

:grouphug: You've been a really rough 24 hours and it won't be letting up any time soon. Prayers and PD for Kaiya and all of you!:grouphug:

OK, don't have time to ketchup. I have been SO busy I don't even know if I'm coming or going! Just wanted to let you all know I'm alive...

My kitty seems to be fine. They said she's either had an alergic reaction (and they gave her a low-dose cortisone injection to see if that helps), or it could be a metabolic condition (they took some blood and are testing it), OR...She could just be Obsessive-Compulsive...Yes, OCD...exactly what I figured it might be in the first place...:lmao: (I'll just poop a brick if I spent all this money at the vet and I had the diagnosis the whole time...:lmao: )
So that's that...

Here at work it's been a MADHOUSE...We're preparing for inventory on Friday, and we're doing mad preparations this time because last inventory, we came up over $10,000 short!! :scared1: So we're trying to figure out what we did wrong last time, and NOT repeat it!! :thumbsup2

The adoption process is moving right along, and I will tell you all about our goings on over the last weeks later when I have a chance to breathe!!

Anyway, like I said, no time to ketchup, I have more work to do before I go home. But I hope everyone is well! :flower3:

See you all later!!
-Christal

Glad to hear about the good news for kitty. Hope things settle down for you soon.
Can't wait to hear about the new baby details.
