I will definitely lay in the sun for a couple of days before we go. Not because I'm worried about burning, but I don't want M to mistake me for a corpse & plop me in a lounge chair to hold her spot! :bitelip:

LOL at least you won't be going straight from winter. We'll be the palest people on board I'm guessing. I just spent that last week at a skifield opening!

OK.... here's my reply to the latest 7 questions... plus I've tried to compile the various questions posed by everyone to try and respond to those where I have a reply....

So - tell us something about yerself... and I know - some of these questions have been posed before... remember ... it's been about 16 months we been hanging out here....

1) What's the FIRST thing that comes to mind that you're looking forward to about our cruise?

The first thing I thought of were the feelings I get when we've passed security and the photographers after check in - YOU KNOW - when you start to walk the gang way just prior to getting your family name announced upon stepping aboard. It's that skittish excitment I feel as we're about to set foot on the ship - THAT is what I'm looking forward to upon 1stimpulsive thought.

2) What is your FAVORITE kind of DESSERT which you hope to get on the cruise?

It's all about the Creme Brulee Baaaayyy--BBEEEeeee!!!

3) What are your favorite hobbies (or substitute interests - if any)

In no particular order - a) Digital Photography, b) Sci-Fi movies/books/games, c) DIS and EBAY, d) computer strategy games, e) travel planning/daydreaming .... and f) waxing poetic with my spouse over the history we've shared this past 24 years.

4) Do you have a favorite music - bands - performers - or such?

There are MANY... however to name a few favorites: Boston, Al Jarreau, Keali'i Reichel, James taylor, Crosby Stills & Young, Simeon & Garfunkle, Queen Latifah, Stevie Wonder, The B-52s, Duran Duran, Tears for Fears, The Go Gos, Paul McCartney & Wings, Midnight Oil, Spyro Gyra, Acoustic Alchemy, Richard Elliott, the Manhatten Transfer, and the performer I first saw in concert .... George Benson.

5) Right or left handed? OR.. are we ambidexterous?

Right

6) Pose a QUESTION for the NEXT person to respond to this....

In 4 sentences or less - describe how your proposal for marrige was ... or if single .... describe your last HOT date in 4 sentences or less.

7) Answer the last question posed by someone responding to this edition of "7 questions"
..... alternatively... you may answer any and ALL other questions posed by DIS neighbors in question 6 replies... REMEMBER... this is all intended to be just simple fun and chuckles for all. Be polite yet playful in what we ask here....

edited in....

7D) Knowing you only can choose ONE answer, which time do you look forward to on a vacation the most? Time with all the family, time with just your spouse, time alone, or time with others you meet on the trip?:

I would have to say - Time with all the family.

7?) If you had to choose a profession other than what you currently do, what would it be.

I'd like to be a school teacher - young kids - maybe 1st graders or K-schoolers. That or a Starship captain for the Federation.... or even better a Ferengi Starship Captain!

03a3.jpg

7?) Which Star Wars character are you most like and why?

I would guess I am most like Anakin. I have nobel intentions - but have made a few mistakes before. And besides the fact Anakin becomes DARTH VADER - I am simply shoosing Anakin because I have an elaborate Anakin Jedi costume. So it seems "fun" to me.

anakin.jpg

7?) This is a question that dd has been asking. What would you rather be - pie or cake and why?
I would rather be PIE - because I just happen to like a great many pies versus cakes....

SO I added this here as it is GOOD STUFF... and I vaguely recall seeing someone asking for this to be reposted up here...

Mickey Mouse Club graphic

For all those "do it yourself-ers" out there. I found the graphic in a book, scanned it, cleaned up the scan a little and posted it at photobucket. I'm just posting a link, since I scanned it as large as I could and it is over 400MB! I don't know if any of our pirates are still using dial-up, but if they are they wouldn't appreciate waiting for that to load up :cool1:

You can look at and download it from here. It is at 250dpi and is about 8" in diameter. If you want it smaller (i.e. kid's shirts or smaller women's shirts) you should be able to resize it down without too much trouble.

I would suggest using the transfer paper that they say is for "dark shirts" even though it is going on a white shirt since the colors will be much more vibrant. Unfortunately, it ends up feeling a little plastic-y - but it isn't too bad (DS tends to be very sensitive to how clothes feel and he isn't bothered too much by this as long as the whole shirt isn't covered with it. The other advantage of the "dark shirts" is that when you print onto the transfer you do not have to reverse the image - much easier for those who haven't tried this before.

For those who want to try this and haven't done it before, it isn't all that difficult - I'm not particularly crafty and have made a number of shirts for DS. A few tips I've learned over time.

* Wash the shirt first - sometimes there is sizing or starch in them which will cause the transfer to not work as well. When you wash it, skip the ...[ed]...

Bought this for DS tonight

f9e6_1.JPG

Found it by accident since the seller spelled cumberbund without the 'd'
When I lost a previous auction, my loser email had a list of similar items and there it was!

I always thought it was spelled 'cummerbund', so anyone looking might want to try that one too.

Don't Boy Scouts collect these sorts of patches for their brag vests? I know DS11 is collecting Junior Ranger patches this summer for his. It's a thought - and might up the count. Provided the patch is unisex. :)

I wondered about that, but forgot to respond.

DS11 has his scuba lessons every night this week, and the open water dive this weekend. He had his first lesson last night. All the book work, time in the pool, and THEN his swim test - 200 yd swim and a 10 min tread water. Mind you it was 9:20pm by the time he got to this, and he'd just finished his first day of summer camp at the swim club = 3 hours of outdoor play + 1 1/2 hours of swimming. He was tired walking in the door for his lesson! He wasn't fast - but he got the job done and passed his swim test. :yay: Boy was he whipped when we got home. The down side is I'm spending all my evenings this week sitting around a pool - no DIS time. :worried: On the other hand, the dive instructor said I could suit up and go play on the bottom of the pool if I wanted. That might be fun. I might actually get a sign off on a refresher course out of it. ::yes::

I'm tired just reading about it!

Sorry, just had to rant a bit. I'll crawl back under my rock now.

No problem - Kandi and I are already here under the rock.

Huh?

I'm left handed too. So is my maternal grandmother (though she was forced to convert), mother, and brother. I consider it my greatest failing as a mother - neither of my children is left handed.

If that's your greatest failing, your doing good.
My 2 left handed only child parents had 3 right handed kids. :confused3

It's our favorite design for the someday cabin at the family woods in WA. A largish sized yurt with a wing of one side for bedrooms. It's affectionately known as the Starship Enterprise.

.

Hmmm, yurt with wings. I'll have to think about that.

Happy Birthday JR!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. As birthdays go, this one ranked right up there with the time in 4th grade when I had the measles, but I'm still alive, and now that I am coming down the back side of the hill, I guess every day I wake up should be considered a good day, right?

Hello to everyone. I have been following this forum since it began and want to introduce ourselves.I'm Chris and my DW is Carol we booked this trip the day it opened and will also be sailing with DD Carol SL Bob and 3 GC Mike14 Matthew6 and Mikala4.The two youngest are extra-special to us and will share that story later. This is our 6th DCL cruise and can't wait. The information and chat here and at the pirate zone has been a great help for me planning this trip and want to say thanks to all who have put so much time and effort into making this happen.

Welcome aboard!! I also have a DS about your grandson's age (he'll be 6 in 8 days) and we're from your neck of the woods, in NYC. :)

If anyone else is interested in this time slot, I'm holding on to 2 spots. When I saw the opening I snagged 2 spaces that I would give up to Todd and Destin. But they were able to get their own. I don't want to cancel the ones I have and risk someone else grabbing them, just in case one of the pirates wants in.

If anyone wants these, let me know.

Monica
If no one has claimed them I would love to have them. I tried to switch over but it kept saying that there wasn't enough room for 3 people

If you see me lying out on deck 9, please check whether or not I am breathing before you toss me overboard as a corpse. Another way to tell the difference is that I am considerably whiter than most corpses.

Having long since given up on getting a tan (not to mention being driven at least two shades more pale in terror from all the reports indicating that anything more than 45 seconds of sunlight increases your chance of getting Melanoma by 500%), I find I compulsively slather on sunscreen at the slightest hint of daylight.

Speaking of which - anyone have recommendations as two which sunscreen is best nowadays?

Dermo recommended Neutrogena with helioplex. I now burn before I tan and that is what they say is the cause for skin cancer. So I have been slowly sunning in the later part of the day. Our pool gets shade around 3. It is brutal before that.

Speaking of bad days. Figured out last night the A/C stopped working. Good news it was in the 70s last night and should be cool today. Service man will stop by this evening.
We have been putting this off for a few years now and it was one of the big projects we planned after the trip. The unit outside was really hot so it looks like maybe the motor or the fan went. Fan is easy, motor means doing the whole job. This unit has been working since 78. It may be time to put it to rest. TG for credit cards.

Sounds to me like your kids have a "schedule to keep" :) I hope the DD7 meets someone her age that keeps her interested. Buckifan has a DS13 who she'd LOVE TO HANG with....but again.....a) she's a girl b) he is 13 and she is 7 and c) HELLO.....that'd be like babysitting....but she loves to be with older kids and my DH tells me they won't (won't, Won't, WON"T, again...won't) allow the 7 yr old to be with our 9 yr old.......hum......creates a delima for us :)

Katie is so sweet. I'm sure she will find someone her age to hang with. She needs to find another little artist like herself!

Too bad Pamela's (pdarrah) ds is not closer to her age. He is quite an artist as well. But I think he is 9.

There will be plenty of times that Drew will be drawing up on deck, and Katie can hang out and draw with him! :goodvibes

We got married on my birthday (by convenience, not choice). DH is really screwed if he forgets!

Interestingly (at least to me!) my b-day, our anniversary is Oct. 8, DH b-day is May 8 --I guess 8 should be lucky for us. :confused3

Dd's "lucky" number is 11. Every sport she plays, she HAS to be 11. But for good reason. She was born at 1:11 on 11/11.

It just so happens I was born a little after 9am on 9/9, so guess what my "lucky" number is? And my Godson's birthday is 10/10, so we have all 3 months covered! :)

I just pick out formal colors that go with sunburn!
Seriously - our other 2 cruises:
1. it was March & we lived in CT - we were all pale, we all burned
2. it was March & we lived in AK - We were all really pasty - DS9 looks downright sickly if he doesn't get sun. DH actually went tanning a few times and he slightly burned, but he generally has skin that goes beautiful tan. I was glow-in-the-dark girl for sailaway - I burned eventually. However, my burn seems to be different - I'm red for a few days then go tan-ish. I don't so much tan as my freckles get closer together!

:lmao: :lmao:

Actually i may need a pair of witnesses in a couple of weeks... It might be a weeknight though. (Need to fix my shunned catholic status)

K...are you renewing your vows? If you are, congrats!!!

1) What's the FIRST thing that comes to mind that you're looking forward to about our cruise?

15 days of no cooking

This is a great answer. I am also really looking forward to all of those days of no cooking or cleaning!!!! Just doing laundry once if I can help it.

I had pre eclampsia with #1 - I'm shocked my ankles don't have stretch marks! Yeah, I had a 7 lb. 3 oz. baby and lost 2 lbs. in the process!

I had pre eclampsia with my Drew too! My legs were the same exact size from my lower calf to my toes. And I had pitting edema, so dh would poke my ankle and watch the spot SLOWWLY fill back in. He said "Oh man, you are like silly putty!" Nice, I am having your kid here!

hmmm..my DD is right handed when she writes and left handed for everything else...maybe she will be a viable candidate when she gets older....:rotfl2:

Ds writes and eats left handed, and does everything else right handed.....like cut with scissors, bat, etc.

We have a couple of mixed up kids! :goodvibes

I am a right handed person in a left handed household :rotfl:
DH, DD, DS are all left handed. Even the dog scratches with its left paw

DH and DS do everything left handed and left footed
DD writes and cuts left handed but does everything else right handed and kicks with her right foot

Good Morning Fellow Pirates and New Pirates!

Orders for Wristbands Are Now Open
and will close on Saturday, June 14th.

Basic Information.
Wristband will be available for .55 cents each. This is based on ordering 500. We have a head count close to 400, so extra will be ordered to get to 500. Who knows we may go beyond that!

Text on the wristband will read DCL 2008 PANAMA CANAL and have a small skull & crossbones on the left side of the text. (This was the winning text in the poll)

SizesWristbands come in 3 sizes:
L = 8 inches
M = 7.5 inches
S= 7 inches
To get an idea of the size you can cut a strip of paper to the above measurements and try it around your wrist. This will give you an idea of how it will fit once on your wrist. Remember the wristband will stretch to go over the wide part of your hand, but the paper strip won’t!

Colors
Choices are Red/Black or Lime Green (For the DIS fans, sorry Todd!)
You can mix and match sizes and colors. Just state the quantity of each size and colored desired.

Delivery
If you want your order delivered before the cruise I can mail them out to you. Up to 4 wristbands can be mailed in a business size envelope for 1st class postage. ( I will have to figure out postage on larger amounts)
Or I can deliver them on the ship or DL resort area pre-cruise.

Payment
If you would like your wristbands delivered on the ship we can settle up than. If you would like them mailed to you pre-cruise a check will work.

So please go to ORDER WRISTBANDS to order yer wristbands!

If I have forgotten anything, let me know!

Orders are going very well. :thumbsup2 Thank you to everyone who has ordered so far!

LOL at least you won't be going straight from winter. We'll be the palest people on board I'm guessing. I just spent that last week at a skifield opening!

HEHEHE on our honeymoon, after burning while snorkeling, we went to New Zealand a few days later and actually had SNOW on the night we happened to be staying at a ski lodge in a hotel that reminded us both of Steven King's "The Shining" :lmao:

Dermo recommended Neutrogena with helioplex. I now burn before I tan and that is what they say is the cause for skin cancer. So I have been slowly sunning in the later part of the day. Our pool gets shade around 3. It is brutal before that.

AC, what's that? We don't own AC. In this crazy town the philosiphy is that there's "only a few miserable weeks" and so people don't build houses with AC. Even the houses worth a million $$ don't have AC... But we're discussing that huge expense and having something run to the bedrooms at least because we can't stand being hot at night! Oh we also have no ducts in the house since the heat is all radient...

Haven't had a chance to catch-up, so don't know if this has been posted by anyone else. Here's a copy of an email I received today from DCL:

6/11/08

Dear Christopher,

Thank you for booking another Disney Cruise Line Vacation!

I would be happy to provide information regarding the Character
Breakfast offered on the ship.

The Character Breakfast is now back to being a traditional table meet &
greet experience versus dancing and playing activities with the
characters. This change allows Mickey & the Gang to once again go around
the dining room, sign autographs, and take pictures with Guests.

I hope this information has been helpful for making plans for your
upcoming Panama Canal cruise. If you require further assistance in
planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you in August! Have a Magical Day!

Honestly if one of my DH's cop buddies showed up at my door while he was suppose to be at work, I'd definitely :faint:!

Me too! The worst nightmare of any one with a family member who is a ::cop:.
