Funny left hand / right hand story -
My parents were concerned that I was starting K when I was 4 - was off the charts on the early admission test I had to take, so they assumed I was intelligent - & despite hours of instruction, I just couldn't tie my shoes! Maybe I wasn't as intelligent as they thought. This was a problem. I had ugly Forrest Gump leg braces, so they couldn't just send me to school in buckle shoes. I had to learn before school started. Well, both my parents are left-handed. At some point, after weeks of trying to teach me, my Mom realized what the problem was. She re-taught herself to tie righty, showed me once and I got it!

I can totally relate. I just couldn't get the whole shoe tying thing. Until I watched my dad (lefty) do it.

Another lefty story. In first grade I got an F on a writing paper. In classic teacher's red pencil my teacher wrote "You are not left handed. Your letters should slant the other way." I had to prove to her that I was indeed left handed.

Where did you live in CT?

Things have changed regarding A/C around here. Everyone I know has it, at least in the bedrooms.

Montville - just north of New London. We were there 2001-2004. Most of the houses in that area are 1950-1960 construction. A lot of people had window unit a/c in the bedrooms - we didn't want to invest in them for the 3 years we'd be there, so we suffered with ceiling fans.

Orders are going very well. :thumbsup2 Thank you to everyone who has ordered so far!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. As birthdays go, this one ranked right up there with the time in 4th grade when I had the measles, but I'm still alive, and now that I am coming down the back side of the hill, I guess every day I wake up should be considered a good day, right?

Don't forget you are invited to the mini meet on July 12 th too!!!

What about talking on the phone? :lmao: :lmao:

Talking on the phone is not a hobby...it is a way of life!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Did you ever go to the Mohegan Sun (hotel/casino)? I hit the jackpot there in 2004. His name is Sean, he'll be 3 in July! A word of advice - it is cheaper to play the slot machines!

Thanks for posting this. They must have had a ton of complaints!!!

I can see how some folks might NOT gain access to the characters. I prefer the orderly meeting opportunities at the tables... as it is now again.

June, i started tanning about a month after my surgery. They have a special scar cream you can get to put on those areas since they're more sensitive to light.

Do you mind telling me know the product they recommended? I have been threatened w/ my life that if i get a burn on my face my scar is there for life.

Speaking of which - anyone have recommendations as two which sunscreen is best nowadays?

Dermo recommended Neutrogena with helioplex. I now burn before I tan and that is what they say is the cause for skin cancer. So I have been slowly sunning in the later part of the day. Our pool gets shade around 3. It is brutal before that.

The Neutrogena was recommended to me as well.

BTW....we finally ended up with a new car that was just dropped off at a dealership 40 miles away!!! Our dealer switched out another car to get this one for us. I guess the 5th time was the charm!!! :faint: :faint: We bought it while it was still on the truck!!!::yes:: ::yes:: It is tucked safely in our garage now!!:woohoo: We got another little Vibe by Pontiac!!! It is really made by Toyota for GM.:thumbsup2 This is a 2009 and we had a 2005. John drives far to work and we had 46,000 miles in just three years. Not exactly a luxury car but it does give us 33 miles to the gallon of gas!!!:worship: :worship:

Alicia puts on 60,000 in a shade a little over 2 years! And I used to haqve 40,000 mile years of driving - and that's INCLUDING me flying about 1/3rd of the time! Good thing Alicia has a company paid car ... I on the other hand had no such luck. So long distance nomadic existances are nothing new to Alicia and I.

We're looking at a ductless system that has a unit outside and runs coolant through small tubes to each bedroom and each is individually controlled. I can stand hot days, but nights when the house doesn't get below 85 are just miserable. You can do stuff during the day to cool off but not at night. When I was pregnant, I slept with a wet washcloth and still woke up and drank a whole glass of water which just contributed to the having to pee in the middle of the night.... I was only a few months pregnant too! Can't imagine having a late summer or fall baby!

portable-air-conditioner-window.jpg

Our weather is mostly moderate ... however every now and then we get HOTT seasons out here - and we never put in A/C because we rarely needed it. SO.... we skate by with a roll around A/C that ducts out the dog door... and I have a window A/C that I set up when we need it - for those 2 or 3 weeks every other year.

I know it's not the most efficient or elegant - but it gets us through the heat most of the time.

When I broke my wrist in first grade, the swelling went down so my parents didn't think it was broken so I went to school with it wrapped. I too was yelled at for writing with my left hand and she said "It's not like your right hand is broken or anything". We went to the Dr a couple days later and found out that I had cracked the bone.... Stupid teacher....

We also have a window unit and have relied heavily on just leaving the windows open in the mornings and evenings, however we just spent last weekend restaining all the wood around windows and replacing 2 of the windows because they were already damaged (the house is only about 5 yrs old). So using the window unit and leaving the window open again is not an option since it damages them so much. And opening the windows to cool things off isn't an option either because the sun or rain will damage the windows too :(

Company cars would be a great deal but no such luck for us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good news!!!(Luck is better already this week!!) The company announced those that would like to work a ten hour day may do so starting next week. He will be off Fridays from now on.:woohoo: :dance3: :woohoo: That will save us a lot of money on gas and wear and tear on the new car!!! The scary part is that is what is going to happen to the world so we can all afford to just go to work 4 times a week because of gas prices/:scared1:  :scared1:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We lived about a mile from Mohegan Sun. The have fireworks every Wednesday night in the summer that we could watch from our yard. We went a few times - kids were toddler/pre-school age when we were there. DH was working 12 hour days & I was going to grad school full time & teaching part time, so we didn't have much time for fun stuff that wasn't centered on the kids.

Great restaurants though & I walked away with $80 one night.

I think they had a product similar to this. (It's same stuff to cover a tattoo)..

i used a band aid until it healed well (which didn't take long for me.)

The scary part is that is what is going to happen to the world so we can all afford to just go to work 4 times a week becuase of gas prices

Nahhhh not all of us... The general public demands face time for many jobs.

I could use some help from the mom's out there. My DD13 has been invited by two school friends to a boy/girl party on Sunday. I don't know the parents of either of the kids who are hosting the party, but it is long--5 hours! I was never allowed to go to girl/boy parties growing up and I'm trying to give my daughter a little more freedom than I had. My husband was the 5th of 6 kids and I think by the time his mom got to him, she was just plain tired. My DD is very responsible, makes good choices, but I really have some concerns about this. Do they really need to be going to boy/girl parties at this age? Maybe this age is ok, and it is when they are older that I really need to worry. There is a boy at school she likes, but she won't even talk to him and he doesn't really know who she is, but she does have some other boys she is friends with which I am ok about. I will call the parents, but what kinds of questions do you ask, other than will you be there, how many kids are coming, what will they be doing? Have any of you let your kids go to a party like this? I realize this isn't cruise related, but I could use some help. Her BFF is also invited, but her mom just said at some point I (meaning friend's mom) have to trust her, and her morals and values. I think kids can get into awkward situations at this age and just not yet have the experience to get out of them. Thanks for any suggestions!:confused3

I'm one of those parents who would call the other parents, just to touch base and find out what the party activities will be. You can always say you are calling to RSVP or if you can bring something too. You could also talk to other parents that you do know and see if they have feedback about this family.

I, too, believe that you should give them some independence...but if this is her first boy/girl party, I'd start the independence next time!

Just my 2cents

I had pre eclampsia with my Drew too! My legs were the same exact size from my lower calf to my toes. And I had pitting edema, so dh would poke my ankle and watch the spot SLOWWLY fill back in. He said "Oh man, you are like silly putty!" Nice, I am having your kid here!

I didn't officially have pre eclampsia, but went I went in to the hospital to have DS10, the nurse said, wow, you must have 20 pounds of water weight. Nice! Needless to say, I gained 60 lbs with each kid. Most came off after the first one, I haven't done as well this time around. At my last Dr. appt. I told her that her scale was broken because there was no way I could weigh that much. I've been eating better and my clothes are getting a little looser, but I just like food and have to force myself to exercise. Maybe if there wasn't a hill on every road I walk on, I would do better. But you think I would be in better shape because of it too!:rotfl:
