Ok, so wasn't there talk about how wonderful it is to have mature trees in your yard??? Notsomuch yesterday. We have 10-12 HUGE oak trees in our yard. 50-60 footers. Big storm came through and knocked a giant branch down - probably fell 30-40 feet onto our deck and tempered glass patio table that seats 6. Table is shattered, a chunk of deck rail is gone.
We've had so much rain here in the last month that the ground is just completely saturated and trees are falling down. Huge trees are down all over our neighborhood - 2 are blocking streets and took power lines down with them. Our power went out yesterday afternoon and I doubt it will be back up for days.
On DH's way home yesterday, he missed being hit by a falling tree by 2 car lengths. He was right by Mount Vernon, heard a crash and saw nothing but tree in his rear view mirror. Truck 2 spots behind him was completely destroyed. The driver was OK, but get this, only DH and one lady stopped to help. The road was completely blocked and no one bothered to get out of their car to help. I hate this place for that reason...not because trees are falling down.
Oh and get this - they didn't cancel school...so the kids got on the bus, I came in to work & I just got a call that school was cancelled and I have to go pick them up. We work a freeking hour from home! The after-school program is keeping them, but we have to pick them up ASAP because the kids shouldn't be there without power. Huh? So why not cancel school this morning?? I really truly hate our school & district - for many reasons, but that's my reason for ranting today.
Anyway, I'm happy to report that we are all safe - but what a pain. At least we planned to go away this weekend anyway!
Glad everyone is ok
Sorry for the bad day you are having - just keep thinking TOAL is only 10 weeks away
